Awesome food, uncomfortable tipping process. The food here is great and a good value too. I ate here twice, recently, just before leaving Germany again, for home. The Leberknödel Suppe (liver dumpling soup) was just right, warm & meaty. And the Käsespaetzle (cheese noodles - more delicious than the simple name implies) was lovely too, with all it's gooey, cheesy goodness, with fried onions on top, of course. The next time, I had Schwäbische Ramhschnitzel (Loin of pork with mushrooms in a cream sauce, served with homemade egg noodles /Spätzle) Also delicious, it felt comforting, like Mom's home cooking (if Mom is German 😃). This is a neighborhood favorite of the natives, so the atmosphere has that aged and well loved, homey vibe. The front of house is ruled by an efficient & capable, though terse waitress. My one concern is around the tipping process. It would be fine if you knew to expect it - perhaps a sign saying that tipping is appreciated - as tipping isn't assumed everywhere in the world. But when you are asked - as you are paying, "how much would you like to tip?", it's jarring and uncomfortable in it's directness. She went on to suggest an amount for the tip to be added to my credit card. The event went by so hurriedly that I just threw out a number without having a moment to consider it. Overall, the meal is now a sweet memory, however the ending was unfortunately a sour note.

This place is pretty packed out; when I wandered in the first evening, the waitress greeting me said there was no chance of getting a table that night. However, when I popped in the following evening to look at making a reservation, a younger waitress said although they were full if I dropped by I could possibly get a seat if I didn't mind sharing a table with an existing party - sure enough, when I returned an hour later, she managed to get me in opposite someone that was just finishing up dessert. I went for the schnitzel meal with salad, along with a beer. The salad arrived first (as thought it was a starter) then the main course appeared mid-salad. The schnitzel was fine but I found the potatoes a bit greasy (needed salt - but tables seemed free of condiments) and felt the dish could have benefited with some veg or gravy. Had no complaints about the beer, and never tried Wifi - the waitresses seemed incredibly busy. I later spotted why many of the tables weren't available: a few parties simply sat playing cards at the tables! It's quite cramped but comes with a good reputation and if it wasn't so busy I'd happily return.

Staying very close to Munich East Station I wanted to try traditional German food without going to the city center, and this restaurant was the perfect choice for me. I had German style pork knuckle. The waitress told me that it would take 20, and asked me if I wanted to wait or order other dishes. I chose to wait. The pork knuckle came in generous portions, and it was quite tasty though the meat wasn’t as tender as I had thought. The waitresses working in the restaurant wear traditional German costumes, and they were friendly and experienced. There were full of German customers in groups. If you are looking for something traditional German near East Station, I would recommend this place.

Traditional German restaurant with good food and nice decor. The service was friendly and attentive. We went there as a group of six for lunch on Christmas day, and a reservation is a MUST. I ordered venison with bread dumplings in a mushroom sauce and a mixed salad. The salad contained potato salad, coleslaw, greens and carrots. The dressing was a little acidic and a bit off balance. The venison was perfectly cooked medium, the dumplings were soft and there was plenty of sauce. There was also half a pear filled with lingonberry. Unfortunately, the dish was not well-seasoned and I had to add salt. I would recommend this place.

Came here with a group. The servers were nice and efficient, and knew English. The menu also had English descriptions, so this is a good spot if you don't know German and are still looking for a more authentic Bavarian dining experience. And the portions were very generous. The only negative is that it's really not a place for you if you don't eat meat, though that is generally true for most of the German cuisine. The one truly vegetarian option was the käsespätzel, which is essentially Mac and cheese made with egg noodles. Very delicious, actually.
