Well, what to say about this place, few things spring to mind.. Old, Disgusting, rough.. some amazingly unaccommodating and rude buffet staff.
I myself am a London trained chef and my mum, a hotelier with a wide knowledge of/and experience in hotels, my mum lives on the Island of Ithaki and I visit yearly, we are both well travelled and understand that things aren't always perfect.
This wasn't our first choice and at a first glance I'm sure you can guess why, the building is something out of 1970's Benidorm sketch and you wouldn't think anyone actually stayed there.
The room, polished with the cheapest of furniture, paint pealing from the inside window frame, dark moldy spots line the glass, not so much in the signs of dust and dirt, it's just run down and worth nowhere near the asking price... The bathroom... At a first glance the mirror catches your attention, accompanied by a sweet stench of chemicals with a light hint of sewage coming from a partly capped sewage pipe in the bathroom, smells like fish guts at the minute.
The food that was on offer looked astetically unpleasing, a mix of school meals and hospital food. For a start, the chips were frozen and undercooked... Not chopped potato.. which is not only more expensive than buying the potatoes but also means you're a lazy, incompitant chef.. "Veal in Tomato sauce" was not in tomato sauce and was mainly fat with 3 bits of meat sitting in oil and more fat, with a couple of mushy green peppers.
the spinach pie (one of my FAVOURITE Greek baked goods) was soggy on the bottom, had the wrong pastry and too dense, I wanted to have some but I leave tomorrow and I didn't want that to be my memory of spinach pie.
Furthermore, the Pizza, with a base made out of commercial, frozen filo dough, looked as if it had been deep fried, then had a packet of tomato puree smothered on top and cheese thrown on with the littles of care, was ineddible, not that I would of dared
Lastly on the cooked foods list was a sort of Bolognese pasta bake/ lasagna with a makeshift bechamel on top, cut into a perfect square which just made my mum feel Ill at the sight of it, literally something you would receive at school, if there even.
I have yet to spend a whole day here and will edit when I finish my stay tomorrow with pictures and a final summary.
Don't bother in the mean time, a whole house down the road for the same price as 2...
Read moreVery pleasant hotel close to the beaches and only a short 5 minute uphill walk to the main road with many bars, restaurants and shopping outlets. Staff were very helpful and professional and our room was spotless and cleaned daily. We had a lovely sea view on the first floor and no noise issues at all. The room had a fridge, excellent air conditioning and a safe at no extra charge. The main bar was excellent and reasonable in price. The only drawbacks have been noted many times. The melee at breakfast can be frantic and the Brits as ever are the main culprits. No idea about manners, social distancing, food hygiene or spatial awareness. Coughing without covering face, handling and replacing bread, fruit and cakes as well as standing in your personal space were regular infractions. I'd say 75% of guests are 70+ years of age so no excuse for not having learnt some manners. The beachside bar lacks choice of lighter lunchtime food (so mostly full meals..chicken, pasta, lamb etc), and was not always very welcoming . The pool and beach were lovely but finding a spare sunbed on the sand not easy after 9am. Usual selfish crowd sneaking down with towels very early and then not returning for hours on end. Very frustrating! Also non residents can use the beach loungers albeit at extra cost, but can take a large proportion of the availability and nothing left for hotel guests. Having last visited Lassi 8 years ago, little has changed other than the clientele. Many fewer younger holidaymakers than previous. It has become the Benidorm of the Ionian with an overwhelming number of ageing northern Brits. The hotel almost exclusively so. If you can accept that and appreciate that the island will feel more British than International then you can't fail to enjoy the Greek hospitality. Otherwise a lovely...
Read moreI want to start with the positives, of which there are more than negatives thankfully. The staff are amazing, extremely helpful. This includes bar staff, kitchen, dining room and cleaning. I could not fault the staff in any way possible. The food, the first night was the best and to be fair, I’m a fussy eater so whilst I was not thrilled with the rest of the week, I found enough to eat each evening and the variation was impressive. Now for the negatives, we paid extra for a sea view and we could not possibly have had the worst sea view room available. Right down in the left hand side at the bottom, yes a sea view but barely and with trees and bushes in the way, I would seriously consider paying an extra (over) £200 extra for this next time if there was one. I also think we were given the wrong room in the first place considering there was a cot in our room to start with which apparently was requested, we did not need a cot!!! The other negative is the rooms. Whilst the hotel is actually quite lovely, the rooms (ours at least) needed a major update, the bathroom is seriously outdated, the tap couldn’t even be turned on in full as the shelf impeded this. The last negative is the pool. I witnessed people putting towels down before 8am. We managed to find beds when we did stay by the pool but people who had “reserved” beds, didn’t turn up until later in the day, the hotel needs to really think about how this affects people as the same beds were taken by the same people for the week we were there. I would also caution people that a stay during September means a more mature clientele, not really suitable for families that make noise!!! Overall, this hotel is pretty amazing but serious improvements need to be made to the rooms and attitude...
