I’m rarely at a loss for words when it comes to travel experiences, but my stay at Hotel Omirikon, run by the incredible Irene, was nothing short of magical. From the moment we arrived, it was as though we’d been welcomed into the heart of Ithaca itself—warm, genuine, and steeped in tradition.
Nestled right along the waterfront, Hotel Omirikon offers stunning views of the Ionian Sea, with the island's lush green hills rising in the background. Every morning, I woke up to the gentle sound of waves lapping against the shore and a sunrise that painted the sky in shades of pink and gold. It was the perfect setting to start each day, a reminder of the island’s serene beauty.
But what truly sets this hotel apart is Irene, the heart and soul of Omirikon. Her hospitality goes beyond anything you’d expect—she treated us like family from the moment we walked through the doors. Whether it was offering us tips on hidden local gems, preparing delicious homemade breakfasts, or simply sharing stories of the island's history, Irene’s passion for Ithaca and her guests shines through in every detail.
The rooms are spacious, clean, and beautifully decorated with a mix of modern comforts and charming Greek touches. Our balcony overlooked the port, where we’d sit in the evenings with a glass of wine, watching the boats drift in and out of the harbor. It was the perfect place to unwind after a day of exploring.
One evening, Irene even arranged a special dinner for us at a local taverna, where we enjoyed some of the freshest seafood I’ve ever had—octopus grilled to perfection, with local olive oil and herbs, accompanied by crisp white wine from the region. It’s this kind of thoughtful touch that makes a stay at Omirikon feel so personal and unforgettable.
If you’re looking for an authentic, warm, and peaceful Greek island experience, Hotel Omirikon is your home away from home. Irene’s warmth and attention to detail make this more than just a hotel stay—it’s a true Ithacan experience, one that will stay with you long after you leave. I can’t...
Read moreThe good points of this hotel are the very nice view with the small terrasse directly overlooking the vathy bay, the location at a walking distance of vathy center and this is clean. The furnitures are a little bit old dated and it could be noisy with motobikes during the night, but was not an issue for us. The kitchen is OK for preparing your meal should you do so. On the bad side, the shower is quite small with a curtain so be prepared to spread water, the "swimming pool" is a joke and should be rather named a basin as there is just space to seat inside, 2 sunbeds and no umbrella. The reception has just the name with globally no presence and no lockup to store safely your luggages after Check-out requested at the latest at 10am. Our room was badly maintained (one photo as example, no way to close the shutter) and you find some rust in many places which is not that you expect at a price of 165€/day without breakfast. So we do not agree with some comments stating that this is good value for money, this is the opposite in our opinion and reason why we ranked it with 3 stars only. With a price more aligned with its real value, we will have ranked it...
Read moreThe hotel occupies a fantastic position round the bay, a 10 minute flat walk to the town with many tavernas, shops cafes etc. |Our room was on the upper level with splendid views of the water and hills beyond. I think most if not all rooms will have a similar view. |The breakfast area also has these views. The choice at breakfast is excellent and in the Greek tradition of cakes, fruit, yoghurt honey, eggs, fruit juice etc. |The room was spotlessly clean as was the whole hotel. Very comfortable bed. A dressing table would have been useful. |The best taverna we found was Tsiribis. |This is in the opposite direction to the town along a quiet road, and through a small fishing and boatyard. Eaten there several times, always...
