From Ultra All-Inclusive Hotels to cheap guest houses, I had the chance to try all types of accomodations; but this was, by far the worst experience I had! The hotel is supposedly at the first floor but it's actually like 3rd. You need to carry your luggage until hit the elevator and there is no guarantee for an operating elevator. Once you are in, don't be surprised because the place is in a decrepit condition. The only clean thing about the hotel is the bed sheets. No bath towels in the rooms, bathrooms are obviously later installed and highly fusty. Hotel owner is a +80 Greek lady and she lives in the hotel as well, room no:1. This hotel inherited from her late husband and she has no intention to improve the facility. In the comments, I was shocked for seeing 5 stars and good reviews and they are almost all from Turkish visitors (like me). Because our emotional citizens feels sympathy towards the owner. How come not!? The owner is from Samsun and Trabzon from maternal and paternal sides and left Türkiye at age 4. Therefore she doesn't speak Turkish, just some expressions. (Her elder siblings does, as she says) Of course we too felt certain level of warmness towards her but this is a professional job after all. No one is staying there for free and money doesn't grow on trees! We had a power cut in the middle of the night and she said this is the first time. From the reviews I read some guests also suffered from that. We booked the room as 3 people and she gave us 2 people room, saying I don't have it. During the power cut in the midnight, I saw an empty room with 3 beds:) This might be the first hotel of Kavala but I am not visiting a museum. I want to stay in a decent environment. I know it's not my place to suggest anything but maybe it would be better to hand over the administration to professionals and conduct a renovation preserving the master would be better for her too.
The only good thing about this hotel is the location. At the heart of Kavala and amazing view from the back. We stayed at room no:15 and this is only room with a balcony. If you read this and still wanna stay there, ask for room 15. At least you'll have a balcony. And the balcony is huge.
I gave one extra star just for the location and the view from our room. Only recommended for...
Read moreSurprised to read all the reviews in here, so I'll try to give a complete one for any person who'd be interested in coming to this hotel.
Location-wise, you can't do better, really. The hotel is 4 minutes away from the port by walk, in the core city center, and coast-facing. (The port with ferries is 4 mins away, but Epicure, and the sea, are 30 seconds away, just leave the hotel, walk around the block, and you're facing the boats and sea)
Service-wise, indeed, the host is an old lady with, I believe, several health issues. She's kind and nice, yet the first impression may seem a little tough. Gotta break the shell, and you're good. She speaks correct English, and isn't disrespectful or anything, maybe just less welcoming than the topical Greek. Nothing too shocking for a Bulgarian like me.
Regarding the rooms, they are old-fashioned. The lock feels like a solid kick would break open the door, and several switches are plain useless (6 switches for 4 lamps?). That said, the beds are comfortable, the wifi works perfectly, even for a business need. The bathroom is okay, clean, but once again, old-fashioned. There's burning hot water in the shower, and soap + shampoo are provided.
I think there's no cleaning lady so, do it yourself I guess lol. Fits a short stay.
All in all, I think the prices should be lowered because other alternatives exist around, with similar prices yet much better overall package
Hope that helps travelers and tourists. (Location is exceptional, I repeat, and the lady should be approached...
Read moreArrived at Kavala, decided to try the town side on our trip back to Turkey instead of the delightfully old Kavala fishing harbour just a quick trip around the headland by car, after our 7 weeks exploring Europe. Hotel Acropolis is hidden between shops and offices but has a character all of its own. Athena is a sweet lady owner who makes you welcome with her cheeky smile. The rooms are in need of updating, and the box like shower area tucked in the corner is quickly turned into a wet room ! however the view from our balcony was a sight for sore eyes. Luckily we had our own supply of tea/coffee etc.. and it’s plastic cups came in handy as there is nothing to offer guests on arrival. We had just a one nights stay which was perfect but would not recommend a longer stay. Parking is free everywhere and the hotel couldn’t be closer to everything. Just...
