The Old Town of Kavala, known as Panagia, is a charming and historic district that offers visitors a unique glimpse into Greece's rich past. Nestled on a peninsula that juts into the Aegean Sea, Panagia is characterized by its narrow, cobblestone streets, traditional architecture, and stunning views of both the city and the harbor.

One of the most striking features of Panagia is its well-preserved Ottoman and Byzantine buildings, which give the area an authentic feel. The Imaret, an Ottoman-era complex that now functions as a luxury hotel, stands out as a symbol of the town's multicultural heritage. Visitors can also explore the Kavala Castle, perched atop the hill, offering panoramic views of the region. The castle itself is a reminder of the area's strategic importance throughout history.

Panagia is not just a historical district but also a vibrant neighborhood. Its small cafés, tavernas, and souvenir shops add to the lively atmosphere, making it a perfect spot for a leisurely stroll. The colorful houses, some of which date back to the 19th century, line the streets, creating a picturesque environment that invites exploration.

Overall, the Old Town of Kavala, Panagia, is a must-visit for history lovers and those looking to experience the authentic side of Greece. Its mix of historical significance, beautiful architecture, and vibrant atmosphere make it a standout destination...

Panagia is Kavala's old town perched atop the hill east from the port - walking the seaside promenade you'll clearly see it. You can reach the top by a tourist train, as well on foot (not so demanding, easy hike up), just don't go driving up with your car as the streets are pretty narrow and with few parking spaces. The whole area is from the Ottoman era, so you might expect that kind of architecture. On top is a 15c fortress (Acropolis) with a round tower and ramparts (small entrance fee) - great views from it. After visiting the fortress just walk down slowly admiring nice shops in winding streets, and have a drink or meal in some of many bars and restaurants. We liked the place much better (and...

Extremely beautiful . Panagia is a architectural reserve of the medieval Balkan style. Indulge in an atmosphere of the late ottoman empire , garnished with breathtaking views of the sea and the Kavala city . Walking on foot preferable. See the castle and aqueduct - the cherries of the cake here. Numerous restaurants and cafes will admire...

Beautiful and amazing area of Kavala. Awesome streets and houses, many historical spots, museums and church. The castle of the town is there. Many souvenir shops and coffees with views. The Imaret hotel-museum part is unique. But have to check the visitor's hours. On the top there is parking area. Recommended.
