I chose this restaurant based on the favourable reviews here on HappyCow, thinking it would be a good one for me and my non-vegan husband I am traveling with. The vegan menu looked next-to-perfect, but the service was truly disappointing.
On our first night in Kavala they were already full, so we placed a reservation for the next evening since the reviews were so favourable. The next evening we arrived at the time of our reservation with high expectations.
First, we ordered the starters to share on the separate vegan pages on the menu and I ordered a vegan main. They told us that they unfortunately had ran out of their famous potato salad (which was fine by us, since that's the way it may be in Greece). We ordered a salad, grilled eggplant and beans to share for starters. I ordered a vegan pilaf as a main, while my husbad ordered a fish main.
That's when things started going wrong: we were served the grilled egpplant crusted with feta cheese and returned it right away and were questioned on whether we really ordered it vegan. They do have the same dish on the non-vegan side of the menu, but feta wasn't mentioned even there. Then, shortly after, they served me a pilaf with mussels (that wasn't even on the menu!). Of course I returned that one too. Then they told as that they had ran out of the rice used in the pilaf and showed us the menu again, and I tried ordering the vegan pasta dish, but were told that they wouldn't be able to serve any of the four vegan mains on the menu. I decided to order nothing more.
I am truly surprised, in contrast to the reviews here, by the mediocre service and the lack of the vegan items advertised on the menu. I consider myself a climate-aware vegan, so I was devastated to see all that non-vegan food going to waste. (Understanding Greek, I heard them offering it to a beggar, but that person refused the eggplant.) I would never in a million years try that excuse of a restaurant again. If they had told us they couldn't serve vegan that day right away, we could have settled for a reservation for the next day to try again with better luck.
I am writing this as a vegan customer, but giving two stars since my husband told me that the fish...
Read moreWe had an amazing dinner experience by the sea in the enchanting atmosphere of Kavala, and we owe it all to Απίκο Τσιπουράδικο. This restaurant is a true paradise for seafood lovers. Both the flavors and the atmosphere left us in awe.
First of all, the attention and warmth of the waitstaff were truly commendable. They explained the menu in detail, made excellent recommendations, and were by our side whenever we needed anything. Such attentive and friendly service made the meal even more enjoyable.
As for the food... The portion sizes surprised us! They were both filling and incredibly delicious. The fresh seafood was carefully prepared and served with exquisite presentations. I highly recommend trying the grilled octopus and shrimp. With every bite, we could feel the freshness and flavor. Additionally, the mezes were equally thoughtful and tasty.
The prices were very reasonable. For a seafood experience of this quality, they offered a much better value than we expected. It’s definitely an ideal choice for anyone looking to enjoy seafood in Kavala.
The atmosphere of the restaurant was another plus. Dining by the sea in a calm and peaceful setting made our evening even more special. The fact that both locals and tourists frequent this place is a testament to how reliable and high-quality it is.
In short, we had a wonderful evening at Απίκο Τσιπουράδικο. Delicious food, attentive staff, generous portions, and reasonable prices... If your journey takes you to Kavala, you must try this place. We’re already looking forward to our next visit!
Thank you, Απίκο Τσιπουράδικο! We are so grateful for the wonderful experience you provided. We highly recommend it...
Read moreMe with my wife and some friends visited this restaurant after seeing its impressive 4.5-star rating and large number of positive reviews, but unfortunately, my experience didn’t quite match the expectations. The overall experience was let down by poor service and limited menu availability.
The food itself had some highlights. The zucchini and the tyrosalata were excellent—fresh, well-seasoned, and clearly made with care. These starters were the high point of the meal. However, when it came to the main courses, things became disappointing. Out of the four fish dishes we were interested in ordering, only two were actually available, which was frustrating considering the restaurant’s reputation for seafood.
What truly soured the visit, though, was the service. Our server, an elderly man with a goatee, was visibly annoyed when we asked questions about the menu. He seemed bothered by our presence, spoke to himself mid-sentence while explaining dishes, and gave off a generally unfriendly attitude. The most uncomfortable moment came at the end of the meal when, despite the cold service, he came back to the table to directly ask for a tip.
If you're planning to visit during the peak summer season, make sure to reserve a table in advance, as the place gets quite busy. That said, while the location and some dishes might justify a visit, the overall experience left a lot to be desired. I’d suggest going only if you're nearby and curious, but don’t go in with high expectations—especially when it comes to...
