We have just returned from a 10 day stay at Hotel Palatino.|It was our first visit to Kefalonia and it won’t be our last.||Hotel Palatino is a 2/3* hotel and the holiday was certainly made better by the friendly, helpful staff.||We stayed in a standard double/twin room.|The room was quite compact but was adequate. The beds were very comfy which is unusual for Greece.|The bathroom was small and the shower cubicle was tiny, meaning every time you moved, you caught the tap and the water went boiling hot or freezing cold. There wasn’t enough room to bend to shave your legs so this had to be done outside the shower.||The view from our room was fantastic, looking out towards the sea and mountains, I really miss that view!||You don’t get a kettle in the room but if you ask at reception, they will bring you one.||Breakfast is basic but ok. Omelette, eggs, sausage, fruit, yoghurt, cereal etc.|If you’re coming expecting a full English, this isn’t the place for you||The pool is nice with plenty of loungers round it. Never a problem getting one whatever time you came. Unfortunately, the loungers are hard plastic and don’t adjust so they are rather uncomfortable. The first couple of days we were there, the loungers had cushions on but these were removed and not put back as apparently, someone had complained that they were dirty.||The worst part of the holiday was on the last day. Our flight wasn’t till late afternoon so we asked if we could have a late checkout. We were told we couldn’t but that there was a room we could use to shower and change. We were fine with this until we saw the room!|It was an office down a corridor in the basement. It had a bed, a desk and lots of papers all over. The bathroom was vile, it was filthy, the plug was blocked, there was no toilet seat, it was a really bad end to the end of a good holiday and we were charged €6 each for the pleasure! You’re not even given towels to use, you have to take the towels from your room.||Licouri is lovely, a small, traditional Greek town with a number of good restaurants and a handful of bars. The square is a nice place to sit, have a drink and people watch. It felt very safe walking round at night.||All in all, we had a really good, relaxing holiday and would return to Hotel Palatino.|With a little bit of money spent on it, it could be fab, it’s a great location, a few minutes walk into the town and great staff.||Improvements I would suggest are:|Put a toilet near the pool.|Improve the size of the showers.|Better sunbeds.|Much better, clean room for showering if late checkout is...
Read moreThis hotel is located up a short hill with great views over Lixouri, the sea and mountains beyond.|Rooms at the rear overlook the garden and get the evening sunshine.|It’s a nice homely hotel with really comfy beds which is unusual for Greece.|The rooms are adequate and cleaned daily with towel changes as well.|The bathroom is functional with piping hot water but 204 is in need of a bit of TLC.|Bit of mould in the shower and there was a very rusty shower pipe and large shower head which really doesn’t need to be there as there is a newer smaller flexible shower which does the job!|Breakfast is served 8- 10 and is a good mix of some hot food, salad, fruit, bread, eggs and Greek yogurt.|The pool area is very nice with a great bar which does snack as well all very reasonably priced.|There is a great number of tables and chairs to sit and enjoy the outdoors and a good number of sunbeds but they are a bit dated with no adjustments so not very comfortable, take a couple of towels!|We had some great evenings with fellow guests in the pool bar area with Senka who was really efficient and helpful.|All in all a nice hotel we wouldn’t worry about...
Read moreI have stayed at the Palatino a number of times - in one of the bungalows at the back. This is my favourite hotel in Lixouri which is my favourite part of Kefalonia. It's about 4/5 minutes walk from the fantastic Lixouri square and all the cafés and shops. A good beach nearby is Lepetha (5 euros each way by taxi) and Xi beach (10 euros each way by taxi). Lepetha is great for snorkeling and Xi has water-sports and great sand for building castles. There is a close beach 5 minutes walk away at the back of the Summery hotel but it's not great "just for the tourists" I'm told with a smile. I found this beach - the sea was quite shallow for a good 20 meters and was very warm but quite cloudy water and umbrellas were the only amenities - couldn't find a café. The Palatino has the best swimming pool in Lixouri with a small paddling pool for infants. It was clearly built in the days of diving boards because the deep end is deeep. The food is good but I can't speak much to that as I usually eat at the platia (square), the staff and owners have always been friendly and helpful particularly at the...
