Zefki Greek Traditional Tavern — Restaurant in Lixouri Municipality

This restaurant is fantastic.. nestled in a very shady courtyard, serving traditional Greek food, just around the back of Lixouri town square. Seafood lovers like me should head for this place as the fish is freshly caught every day & there's always a good choice available compared to others.. It has a really cool style, quite funky & colourful.. We had a great conversation with the young guy working there about the restaurant using all organically grown ingredients, like tomatoes, peppers & cucumbers, you could really taste the difference in their salads & main dishes. Sadly, this is not the case elsewhere as many restaurants use veg grown in poly tunnels & are quite tasteless these days! The young guy who served us was brilliant, very enthusiastic & knowledgeable about everything local, pointing out the best & quite often hidden gems to visit on the island.. he even wrote us down a list of over a dozen different places to go to in order to maximise our visit here, I'm sure he'd do the same for anyone visiting this new & hidden gem of a great quirky little...

Our first night in Lixouri we were out a little later than usual for dinner with our kids (7,9) and they were hungry. We walked in without a booking, greeted warmly and seated immediately, bread with a beetroot dip and water arrived quickly.

We chose mixed small plates for the kids, grilled prawns in garlic, fried squid, marinated anchovies and some fries along with some tzatziki for the bread, all fresh and excellent.

My wife and I shared a Saganaki starter, then had two specials Sea Food Giovetsi, and Stifado, both these dishes are the best we’ve had in our 2 week wandering of Kefalonia. We also had two bottles of water, a large beer and 0.5 litre of wine all for €89 a tremendous food and value.

The staff were all super helpful in a busy environment, and the owner could be seen helping to clear tables, checking with customers, and instructing in the kitchen, he clearly has a passion for his business,...

To start with the best : great inner courtyard with the few tables set romantically … so good spot for your date night. Service is fast professional and nice. They have changing day recommendations. 5 stars for that

On the food side we might have been not so lucky - good Greek family style menue with the obvious choices. Some were really good but twice in our visits we took choices from the day menu and were not impressed: the “kefalonia meat pie” as well as the earlier tried “pasticio” that are normally the chiefs family recipe were - in my view - too dry and seemed to be reheated multiple times - hence here only 2-3 stars for these dishes.
