We needed to find a short stay somewhere as we did not wish to spend too much time in Athens. We chose the island of Aegina which is a short 45 minute ferry ride. We booked the Afea Hotel, When we arrived at the port we hired a taxi that dropped us off at the hotel, approximately a 30 minute drive.||The hotel upon arrival looked very very nice and it was. It has a nice large pool and the plus is that all the rooms have sea views. The rooms are adequate and very comfortable. It is family run and we felt quite at home there. There are plenty of tavernas just a short walk down the hill and you will not be short of a good selection of places to eat.||The breakfast at the Afea was basic so we chose to eat our breakfasts elsewhere.||I can recommend the Afea, in fact we went back towards the end of our trip for 2 days.||The owner was friendly and we all felt very comfortable staying there as it was not an impersonal large hotel. ||The crisis in Greece is hurting the hotel as tourism is down so please make the effort to visit the less popular island and help the locals. Read moreIt takes less than three hours from Athens airport to get to this little paradise: You just have to take the X96 bus from the airport to the port of Pireaus (about 1 hour) from which you can take the boat (Alexandros) to Agia Marina on the very nice island of Aegina.(1 hour and 10 minutes). This is all very smooth and easy to do - no worries at all! The rooms are cosy and clean, you get nice sea view (upper floors), the airconditioning works perfectly, the breakfast is grea and the owners are nice! Going downtown takes about 3 minutes and going to a nice beach an extra three minutes...The price for all that was only 40 Euros (breakfast included)...I also got 7 days of full blue skies for free ;-) I Wish I could go back already....In my view it is even an option in the case you want to...
Read moreI have just returned from a thoroughly enjoyable holiday with my husband to this beautiful island of Agina. The hotel was amazing the owners and staff were so very kind. Nothing was too much trouble. They treated us like royalty. Rooms were comfortable and cleaned every day. A lovely quiet hotel with a clean and good sized swimming pool. A m8xtire of couples and families are all made very welcome. The hotel is at the top of a hill that is not too steep. Buses run regularly and stop outside the gate of the hotel. Buses will take you to most places around the island are are reasonable priced. I would truly recommend anyone stay at this hotel. I am planning to visit again next year with additional members of my family. Thank you Maria...
