Galini Mare — Hotel in Municipality of Agios Vasileios

My partner booked a sea view room through Booking .Com for 16 days starting on the same night that she had made the booking.||||She arrived to be told by the manager that she shouldn’t have booked through Booking.com as he could have given her a better price. ||She went to her room that was very small and poorly cleaned and in urgent need of redecoration.||The next morning the manager told her that he had cancelled her booking with Booking.com , (without her permission) and requested to pay him by cash for the booking and he would give her a €50 discount , approx a 5% discount. ||Because of the poor state of the room and also she had no hot water on the 2nd morning of her stay she decided to leave. ||I went to pay for the room and offered as a goodwill gesture to pay for 3 nights rather than the two that she had stayed. and could we come to an agreement that both of us would be happy with.||He became very angry very quickly and immediately threatened to call the police and then claimed that they were on their way . I tried to reason with him but failed. He threatened me with being brought to the police station . I explained to him my partner was ill and couldn’t take this stress. I felt very threatened and had to back down . He eventually came up with a price of €750, which represents a cancellation fee of €630. ||||The threats of being brought to a police station in a foreign country was simply a shakedown that left me quite shaken. ||||My partner and I had been so looking forward to our almost 3 week holiday in Crete , which we both love. I have been to Crete over 20 times and love the Cretan people and their culture . I have never had a bad experience here, but our experience at Galini Mare was a nightmare.||||There are so many lovely hotels in Agia Galini, such as the Astoria Hotel opposite this very unwelcoming dingy hotel....

Cheap and cheerful?? - No!!||||More like: Not as cheap as it should be, and certainly not as cheerful as it could be. ||I cannot recommend this place!!||||I had booked through booking.com. The hotel owner cancelled the reservation after my first night without my knowledge. ||He then started to negotiate a new price: if I was able to pay in cash, he was prepared to give me a €50 discount!||I wasn’t comfortable with this, and informed him the next day that I was checking out. ||My partner who had arrived offered to pay him for 3 nights (even though I had stayed only 2 nights) - or, if that wasn’t acceptable, we would keep the room for the full duration. ||||The hotel owner immediately got very angry and threatened to call the police - which he did within a few minutes of my partner calmly trying to talk to him. ||||As for the hotel itself:||||The room I stayed in had beautiful sea views - but that’s where the positive aspects of this review end. ||||The room wasn’t exactly clean, and the bed was grubby. I woke with several nasty bites, even though there weren’t any mosquitoes in the room. I leave you to come to your own conclusions!||||It was technically impossible to have a shower without flooding the entire bathroom. But on day 2 it didn’t really matter, as there was no hot water. ||||The hotel is not only in need of cleaning, but also in need of serious renovation and repairs. ||||I could go on, but just will end by saying: ||It was a very unpleasant and intimidating experience - not what I’m used to from the lovely people of Crete! I will not return to...

It was technically impossible to have a shower without flooding the entire bathroom. But on day 2 it didn’t really matter, as there was no hot water.

The hotel is not only in need of cleaning, but also in need of serious renovation and repairs.

I could go on, but just will end by saying: It was a very unpleasant and intimidating experience - not what I’m used to from the lovely people of Crete! I will not return to...
