Attracted from the good reviews my girlfriend and I wanted to eat at Onar yesterday. We arrived at 7 pm and we asked if we could reserve a table for 1 hour later. The waiter said it was possible, but that we could not choose wich table and maybe we had to wait up to 15 minutes in any case. That surprised us since for me the purpose of a reservation is not to wait and pick the spot you like. After he tried to explain us that in that moment all tables were free, but that they apply a "first come, first served“ policy we said ok and came back one hour later as agreed. The table we wanted looked free, so we walked in its direction and surprise: the table was reserved for someone else. Another waiter approached us and said that probably it got reserved the previous day. We replied him that his colleague told us one hour before that all tables were free. At that point he exclaimed: "that's not possible" and clearly embarrassed left us there without adding anything else. We left as well since we really felt uncomfortable and not welcomed like it never happened before during our long stay in Crete. Maybe it was just an unlucky episode, but as a suggestion for the future: decide a common policy, share it with all the staff and be honest with...
Read moreThe view was lovely, but my squids were a bit gummy and our waiter was very rude. He insisted that we order drinks first, then food later and he did so in a rude manner. While we were discussing our orders and he was waiting to take them, he told us we needed to hurry up because he had three terraces to serve. Additionally, when we requested that he take a picture of our group, he replied, "Maybe later, I have work to do.” The rest of the staff was polite, but this waiter ruined the whole experience. It supposed to be a nice dinner with our family to say goodbye day after our wedding in Agia Gallini and we ended up without any picture and with a completely...
Read moreBest restaurant experience in our 2 week trip in Crete. Fantastic seafood options, we had grilled swordfish and seabass and fried red mullet, along with the Onar salad and tuna salad. Everything was fresh, tasteful and cooked to perfection. Portions are beyond generous and very well priced for the size (each fish dish had homemade fries and some baked veggies on the side and we ended up splitting the salad between 3 people - every portion could be shared). Even something seemingly simple like the tuna salad was fully homemade, with tuna that they catch and cook themselves. The dessert on the house was great as well. Highly recommended and will...
