Planned a trip to Athens and wanted to stay near the beach, but within easy reach of central Athens and its attractions. Did a bit of research, and despite some negatives on here, decided to go with Zen. Having stayed here it ticked all the boxes for many reasons, hence a fairly lengthy review.|Starting with the hotel location, not in the most salubrious of streets, but dont let that put you off. To the end of the road a couple of hundred yards are the private and public beaches. So for me, perfect location!|The hotel itself is a small hotel, which is spotlessly clean. The room was cleaned every day, with fresh bedding and towels every day as well.|The receptionists, of which there are a few, were all delightful and helpful in their differing ways, though for some there was a slight language barrier, which is where google translate came in handy! However, the young man who was on late most evenings was quite superb. Overall you were left feeling they genuinely wanted you to enjoy your stay.|To the end of the street, as already said the beach, and also bus stop. Turn left and a few hundred yards down the road, kiosk, and also two places worthy of mention.|Trelos Gaidaros ( Crazy Donkey) great charcoal grill place, AMAZING value! Having paid over a hundred and fify euros for a meal at one of the private beaches, the 20 euros this place charged was a refreshing change! Also good little coffee place "Gregorys" though doesnt look like that in Greek, but you cant miss it, good frappe, coffees, snacks. Have done seperate reviews of the beach bars.|My one piece of advice whilst staying here, download the " Beat" Taxi App. Longest we had to wait for a taxi was 2 mins, tracks your location, gives a pic of your driver, what you will be charged. Zen into central Athens ie Acropolis 9 euros. Zen to airport was 21 euros.|So back to the Zen, £350 euros for a seven day stay and all of the above, one...
Read moreOur room was on the 1st floor, quite spacious. 4 poster bed king size, floor to ceiling mirrors on both sides, red flocked wallpaper and gharish red carpet. 24/7 naughty channel. Make your own mind up. Room was cleaned daily, fresh towels sheets and paper shower shoes. Breakfast consisted of Cheese and ham toastie, small bottle of water, small juice drink and a celophane wrapped croissant. Cup of coffee on a tray. If the manager is on, Lillia the ginger one, you get tap water, cold coffee one milk between two no biscuits, miserable and tight as a fishes a((&. I asked for another coffee but all she could say was you must pay. So I went to the coffee shop up the road and bought one there with my 2K spending money. There is a tiny seating area and a bar, but due to the hostile Manager, and the lack of any activity there we spent elsewhere always. The 2 russian ladies were charming and helpful. You can`t knock it for its location for the tram and buses, just across the road at Zephoros tram stop. The main road is a threelane motorway! & is very busy and dangerous so wait for the green crossing lights please..they will not stop for you till they see the red. The main road is noisy and so are the other residents at the weekends (4 poster, mirrors,TV etc). Bring your ear plugs. We had a...
Read morethe hotel was a letdown! The staff can't speak English and is very unfriendly. We reserved a room with a jacuzzi, but got another one on the first day. The room was dirty and the springs on the bed were broken. The next day we got the room with a jacuzzi, which unfortunately didn't look like the photos. The internet didn't work, when we said the next morning we'd check out (although we paid for it daily and not all of it) the lady said angrily that it didn't work who would clean it now. She then gave us 2 minutes to leave the room. We had to get breakfast from another hotel, although it said that you could even get it...
