Really nice beach. I spent 8€ for entry and 5€ for a sun bed(you can't book them in advance, only the luxury ones for 25€) including an umbrella. I came on a Thursday around 11am and there were plenty available all through out the day. The beach was really clean and got cleaned in between. You could order food and drinks (quite expensive) from your sunbed, but it was no problem if you brought your own snacks and drinks. The water was incredible, you couldn't swim so far out that you couldn't see the ground anymore or the fishes, that's how clean the water was. There were amenities like changing rooms, toilets and showers. You could rented little boats with water slides on them and there was a giant water park float a lot of teens enjoyed. While it was kind of crowded on the beach and in the water were you could stand it was nearly empty further out. The beach was easy to reach by a bus from syntagma square. The only negative sides were that there was really loud music blasting, I had to use noise cancelling headphones to relax at the beach and I could still hear the music. You could hear the music really loud from anywhere in the water. And when it became evening they went (around 6-7pm) they went around and started closing all the umbrellas, even the one I laid down under for sun protection. The staff came around multiple times to close it and I told them each time to leave it open. 3min later they were back again trying to close it. I had to get up multiple times to put it back up again and even injured myself doing and even then they just came back...
Read moreBeach within easy travelling distance from Central Athens, by bus. You do need to pay to get down on the beach front, which in some ways is ludicrous, but it does mean they keep it clean. Various different businesses/companies own different stretches of the beach, so on one level, it doesn't real matter where you enter the beach because you can sunbathe wherever. Entry cost (at Akti Illou) is different depending on whether its the weekend (up to €10/adult) or weekday (€8). Also half price entry after 4pm. The Mediterranean is a cold sea, so be prepared, although in the relentless heat of Summer, that's fantastic. Plenty of bars/restaurants and a seaside shop are available once you're on the beach, but they are pretty pricey, by Athenian standards, so consider bringing you're own food and drink. Music is played from several bars, which is sometimes good! Adds to the vibe, but not too loudly. Even on a weekend in June, it was busy but not packed, so...
Read more€24 euros for 2 adults and child to sit on the sand. For this price the beach SHOULD be immaculate. Unfortunately it was not much cleaner than the free beaches to the north and south. Many cigarette butts, and small rubbish items in the sand. For this price there should be cleaning operations every day otherwise where is all of this money going other than pockets? Another negative - you could pay this money then get to the beach and have loud screaming groups of youths with footballs and stereos so no peace guaranteed as there seems to be no one enforcing any rules to make it suitable for everyone. The 2 stars I am giving is for the beach out of season when it...
