We chose Kalderimi Traditional Houses for our lodgings in Astypalea and very glad we did. Transportation from the airport (at no cost) was arranged by the hotel and was perfect, with a fellow there to meet us as soon as we exited from the small terminal. From the first moment we were greeted by Katerina, who gave us an introduction to the island while serving us welcoming cakes along with yoghurt with cherry sauce to the hugs good-bye a week later we experienced nothing but smiles and kindness. ||||Even though we had not rented our car from Katerina’s son (we didn’t know he was in the business) she contacted and arranged delivery of our vehicle.||||Both Katerina and her daughter Anna were helpful throughout our stay, including recommending a number of beaches and restaurants.||||Our room – Girouli – was large and well designed in a traditional style. It included a small kitchenette with fridge, a couple of burners and a sink. The room had a nice bathroom, a large comfortable bed and plenty of seating, both inside and out on the terrace. Girouli is at the bottom of the property providing privacy and quiet. There are two minor issues with the terrace – first some annoying power wires – not a big deal but noticeable and second it gets quite hot by mid morning as there is minimal covering over the terrace. On the other hand clothes dry very quick.||||Breakfast is really good, made to order with different fresh cakes / pastries each day. The breakfast area is in a wonderful setting looking out over Livadi and the sea. Aggeliki (Angela), our breakfast server, Maria the cook and Araina the housemaid were all full of smiles, day after day. One could just tell they enjoyed working at Kalderimi.||||Astypalea takes a bit of effort to visit but we are very happy we did, and very happy we chose Kalderimi Traditional Houses as the place to lay...
Read moreKalderimi Traditional Houses was the first property replying to our e-mail request for family accommodation in Astypalea. This was our first trip to the island, and Anna, the owners' daughter and manager, immediately offered her assistance in arranging not just our accommodation, but getting us acquainted with the island.||||The check-in - during Covid-19 conducted outside of the reception area - was easy, and Anna herself took her time to explain the hotel, and the sights and possibilities on the island.||||Our room, a two-level suite, was indeed in the shape of a traditional island house, and provided plenty of space for our family of four. Upstairs we found a small kitchen, and a beautiful patio overlooking Chora, the main town, and the bay of Livadi. Downstairs, a small patio outside the main door proved to be an ideal "mobile office" location.||||The hotel WiFi worked well, and the air conditioning provided ample cooling. If there is one gripe, the shower and bath facilities - in typical Greek fashion, and not necessarily the hotel's fault - were rather simple, with the occasional lack of water pressure, and mediocre amenities.||||The true highlight of our stay was the proximity to both, Chora, and the beach of Livadi, as well as a made-to order breakfast every morning. Not only did we have a choice of omelettes, eggs and breads, but we were treated to freshly-made pies and pastries, both savory and sweet, every morning.||||Anna herself made sure all of our small and not-so-small requests throughout our stay were met, and ensured a wonderful stay. After our departure, we discovered our kids had left their electric toothbrushes behind - a brief e-mail to Anna, and they appeared promptly at our next destination.||||Thank you very much, Anna and the entire...
Read moreWe have visited Kalderimi twice, in 2015 and 2016. Each time we arrived by ferry from Piraeus in the middle of the night, but Katerina was at the port to welcome us. She even offered food and drinks before showing us to our beautiful Kalderimi house - perfect in every way, with everything you could wish for. Waking the next morning to the stunning views of Livadi beach, the old town of Astypalea with its ancient castle was amazing. Breakfast each morning is always delicious - fresh fruit in abundance, yoghurt, honey, eggs, cheese, ham, and a freshly baked Greek cake each day! Katerina's son, Andonis, runs a car hire business, so getting out to explore this small, quiet, fascinating island is easy. We cannot fault the welcome, the care and attention we have received from Katerina at Kalderimi, and we look forward to returning...
