We had the unfortunate experience of staying in the Filia Hotel after seeing many positive reviews on Jet2. Our room was in 320 which was in the old block, separate from the main pool area and the nicer rooms/apartment. From re-reading the reviews now, this seems to be the 'problem block' and the one which has not been refurbished.
On arrival at 1am Sunday morning, we had no formal introduction/check-in/information. As it was their weekly Saturday night bbq evening, some of the staff were drunk and the pool area was rowdy. As we went to the main reception area to find assistance, the owner's 12-year-old girl greeted us which was unprofessional. Our suitcase was then damaged by staff after forcing it out of the reception area to carry it to our room. Even though staff replaced this the after we complained, it shouldn't have happened in the first place.
There were some issues with the room. Some were rectified but without apology.
Ants in the room (only sprayed with deet and then walked off). We asked to upgrade rooms but apparently there weren't any.
Broken and dripping air conditioning unit (charge of €10 per night) - a desk fan would have had a better impact in cooling us down. It was noisy and clunking. This was on top of having a view of the road.
Poor flow of tap and shower (this was rectified). The shower also leaked all over the floor (due to an inadequate shower curtain). We nearly slipped several times. There was also no soap. We generally do not like to make a fuss or complain (as we want to relax and enjoy the holiday!) but felt like there was constantly issues with the room which needed to be raised.
Other notes: We ate in the hotel once for evening meal despite being half board and ended up eating out for the rest of it as it wasn't great standards by any means. I'm aware that a lot liked the food but this was personally not for us.
By night 6, we reached the end of our tether with the room. We had been trying to swap to an alternative hotel via Jet2 all week without success due to a lack of availability. We then paid for new accommodation to stay in dias apartments down the road. Despite being a similar price, the quality is much higher, with a nice bathroom, a comfortable double bed and functioning air con.
The outdoor pool areas at Filia Apartments were nice, with good sunbed availability. However, we really feel the room let us down for our...
Read moreWe have recently returned from an 11 night stay at the Filia. Wonderful welcome and a drink on arrival with owner Michael who was the perfect host in showing us the hotel, our room and providing tips for travel and trips. Our room was in the older block but was comfortable and had a balcony with a side seaview. Although the bathroom was small and in need of upgrading, it suited us fine. The shower was good and hot so no issues. Breakfast was fine and evening meals, when we ate in, were well cooked and enjoyable. The restaurant itself, like the pools and poolsides and indeed the hotel generally were spotlessly clean. With a couple of exceptions the hotel staff were generally cheerful and helpful. They do work so hard and it is appreciated. The bar too was fine with very reasonable prices. Billy the barman is a very gregarious and cheerful soul and keeps the guests amused. The only negative in truth, was the music at the bar which was played loud and proud until 2 or 3am! Some pop, a lot of rave, techno and house music. It could have been Malia! Not easy sleeping through that especially with a window open for some relief from the warm nights! My impression was that many other guests were similarly sleepless in the night. Turn it down a bit Billy! Overall, however, the hotel benefits from lovely staff, pleasant rooms at a reasonable cost, good food and well maintained pools. It’s very well situated for the main town too, just a few minutes walk. away. Many thanks Michael, we thoroughly...
Read moreWe have just stayed at the Filia for 10 night Half Board as a family of 3 (2 adults and a 7 year old boy). We couldn’t fault it! The hotel is spread over 3 blocks; 2 main blocks with reception, main restaurant, pool and a pool bar. Then a separate block which is a 30 second walk with another pool and pool bar. We stayed in the separate block which we found to be great as it was a lot quieter, especially on an evening and also our room (323) was one of the refurbished rooms.|Breakfast is buffet style with the usual hot options, cereals, toast, breads, meats etc and served until 11am and then the evening meal is buffet style starter, mains picked from 2 options on a menu and dessert options served to you and served 6:30pm until 10pm. The snack bar during the day served lovely home cooked food!|The hotel is ran by a lovely family and everyone plays their part. There is also a lovely Romanian family who work with them too and their son runs to pool bar in the quiet block during the day, he’s great!|The hotel is situated just off the Beach Road and accessed a few different ways. The beach, shops, bars, restaurants are all within a few mins walk. |We loved our stay here and would definitely return. The best part for me - there were absolutely NO sunbed wars. It doesn’t matter what time you head to the pool, there are always free, comfortable sunbeds available and this means...
