The Pilot’s Villas are located by the tidy little village of Koutouloufari with fresh air, some restaurants and a few bars, at the foot of a dramatic hill, guarded by a couple of Cretan eagles reminding you the island is more than just beaches with sunbeds and drinking/dancing in the bars. I stayed there two weeks from July 7th 2025. It is however in walking distance of the fast-tempo, party-port of Hersonissos and many different beaches for most likings. If you want the best of both worlds prepare for some “climbing” in hot weather though. A good deal was possible for a car-rent opposite of the Villas and a convenient parking was available in the Villas area. Good also for exploring a piece of the largest Greek island with the oldest of the old written Greek history and extreme nature versatility.||Cretans are distinct extra proud Greeks for good reasons and with special humor that I personally connect to. Filoxenia, the national “religion” applies here too. Curious and tolerant for other cultures. Respect back is expected and appreciated but as hosts they will do everything to make you feel like a member of their family. If you don’t connect they will professionally let you enjoy the sun and the sea in your privacy. The Pilot’s Villas owners is a Cretan family driving the place in generations with “Μεράκι”, a genuine interest for the guests’ well being, funny, social, honest, professional and open hearted people.||The apartments are tasteful traditional looking villas with thick walls for privacy partially made of stone. Well equipped, kind of modern, with a powerful AC in the large bedroom and a separate large combined living room-kitchenette. However, no AC there if you chose to close the bedroom door. The large bed felt really comfortable for my taste. Good pressure for showering water in the fresh small bathroom all day and night. The cleanliness is spotless both inside the apartment, in the large pool area and even the surrounding gardens with pleasing aroma from lemon trees, thyme busses and other flowers I couldn’t recognize.|My apartment, advertised as garden-view, had a relaxing terrace also with some unexpected bonus sea-view of blue Aegean archipelagos and Hersonissos port but the sunsets and views from the pool were even more generous for daydreamers. The bar by the pool was always cared for by someone from the family offering morning breakfasts and refreshments and snacks by night.||All in all just great atmosphere cocktail for my mood and when I had to request for some unplanned change of accommodation during my stay due to a special occasion, Giorgos could conveniently support no hustles. The place is way above average standard for Crete. There are chipper accommodations depending what you are looking for each and every time. No extras for AC, no surprises or fooling around. Giorgos asks kindly for the minimum legally of the obligatory tax, that the Greek “mafia” state lifts from millions of tourists and annoyingly have to be paid everywhere on arrival. For me it was worth every cent just for the service. The genuine hospitality and the location is a bonus.||Just sharing an honest review for a really good place for vacations, initially chosen by me with hesitation in a last minute search. After a couple of eventful weeks full of remarkable coincidences and interactions I thought I had become well aware where I was, just as a seasoned traveler. However, my last day realization of what Pilot’s Villas really stands for, is a story I keep for my self with humble respect and gratitude to this special people. On this deceptive highly bothering times, that last day fortunate realization gave me chills for whatever personal reasons.||Special message to the owners with my love and some humor.|Γιώργο, κι ο Πανούσης το ‘λεγε νομίζω… και τα ακούς κάθε μέρα σίγουρα: “Κάντε κανα πιλότο γιατί χανόμαστε”.|Καλές δουλειές και καλό υπόλοιπο...
Read moreI'm super late in posting this, so apologies to Yiogos and family. What a lovely place to spend your holiday at! It's difficult to sum up in a review, but the whole complex oozes quality with service to boot. Family run, there is always someone friendly around to tend to your needs without it feeling imposing. We stayed in peak summer (mid August).
The villas are finished to the highest standards. The one we stayed in had two bathrooms, one with a lush shower and the other had a bath with whirlpool jet type things (kids hogged that!) and a shower. They are cleaned six out of seven days and have everything you'd need to relax in your own bubble.
The pool area has a huge pool which is ideal for kids to play and for adults to do a few lengths. There is a pool bar which serves drinks and snacks, all of which were freshly prepared.
Located just off the main strip, it's not noisy at all from passers by. It's on a slight incline, but nothing too severe and places you close enough to restaurants and bars, of which there are plenty to grab an evening meal. Koutoulafari is not a boisterous place anyway, but you're seconds away from the 'action' yet far enough for it to not impose on your stay.
Yiorgos and his family were super helpful with anything we needed and even printed something out for us that we'd forgotten to do.
Overall, it's a fantastic place to stay, combining the feeling of being in your own villa bubble with that of being in a complex with others around. The pool was never crowded, it was quiet....... perfection. They have aimed for something luxury and hit the bullseye.
In my opinion it ticks many boxes for couples of all ages, families with children of all ages and single travellers as well.
Thank you for making our stay memorable and we will see you...
Read moreWe stayed here as a group of four for a week in July 2025. These apartments are absolutely beautiful. Spotlessly clean. Large spacious and the most comfortable bed I've ever had abroad. The pool area is also spotlessly clean the pool is warm and well kept and there are plenty of sunbeds for everyone and they are strict about not reserving which is a breath of fresh air when you stay at a hotel.|The main thing though is the owners. It is a family run business and they really go out of the way to look after you and make you feel very welcome. We opted to include breakfast with our booking and are glad we did. The owners a lovely lady and her husband cook you everything fresh eggs any way and bacon you get fresh bread even lurpak butter fresh orange juice tea coffee fruit cake yoghurt and lovely pastries. The lady was so caring and we felt that she treated us as her own family. Her husband was a caring lovely man who helped her. During the daytime her son ran the hotel and he was lovely too and made sure you had whatever you wanted.|You step outside the complex and you are in the heart of a beautiful village with an abundance of lovely modern well designed quaint restaurants and shops. The food was amazing everywhere we ate, well priced and the Greek hospitality second to none. You are about a 20 min walk to the seafront but we mainly stayed in the village as it was so lovely. This is mainly a Dutch resort which means a lovely clientele. No lager louts that you find in some resorts. Just nice respectable people enjoying their holiday.|I highly recommend the Pilots Villas and the village for a quiet peaceful holiday with...
