We stayed at the Garden City Resort for almost 2 weeks recently in a Superior Junior Suite. The suite was delightful, nice balcony, plenty of space within the room, very modern with a lovely bathroom which included walk in shower. One little criticism was that staying for almost 2 weeks storage space for our clothes was quite limited, we had to use both couches to lay most of our clothes on, but it was manageable and didn't cause any issues for us.
Breakfast, which was included, was Greek buffet style, which for us was great. The choice was great, including hot and cold meats, salads, cakes, cereal, bread etc, with quite a lot of it home made, which was delightful.
Now, for us, the most important and really special aspect of the hotel were the amazing staff. They are a small group of really special people who make a huge effort to do that little extra to ensure your stay is a little special.
The fantastic guys and delightful girl on reception were such a great help in arranging laundry, restaurant recommendations, calling restaurants for reservations, arranging taxis, they were all brilliant, so Aris, Panagiotis, Panagiotis (2) and Panagiota, thanks for all your help.
Our rooms were cleaned to an extremely high standard everyday, lovely fresh towels, delightful toiletries and fresh crisp sheets. Thank you so much Vaso and Christina is was great to return our suite every afternoon knowing it would perfect for our little afternoon nap.
As I said earlier, breakfast is a traditional Greek buffet and Eleni and Stauroula in the kitchen served such delightful treats every morning, especially their home baked little cakes, which I loved to enjoy with coffee every morning, the fresh fried eggs, bacon and sausage but it was the fresh tomatoes, olives and Greek treats we loved most, thank you ladies for setting us up extremely well for the day ahead.
Complimenting the delightful cooks were Anna and Olga, who both served and looked after us at breakfast. Wow, they were both brilliant, Anna and Olga thank you so much for making a fabulous cappuccino every morning and for the delightful cup of fresh juice at the pool mid morning to help cool us down. Both of you were brilliant at looking after us at breakfast every morning, thank you so much for going that extra mile to ensure our start to everyday was met with a smile and a cheerful "good morning"!
Lastly, thank you Thanasis for looking after us every evening, serving us a cold beer or making a coffee for my parents, it really was appreciated.
Thank you to the management of the hotel for looking after us extremely well and for the little treats you arranged almost every evening, we really appreciated this, so another huge thanks.
So we are now at home reflecting on a wonderful holiday in Kalamata, a delightful friendly city in Greece but our memories will always be of the Garden City Resort and its magnificent staff who succeeded in making our holiday there extremely special.
A huge thanks...
Read moreMy husband and I booked this for our travels around the Peloponnese. We were greeted by a Chris Kamara look-alike receptionist who was jumped up and unhelpful to say the least (sorry Chris- you're much nicer!). He asked if we were ok with the price- despite the fact we'd paid in advance. Perhaps uncertain about letting us into this '5 star' establishment with our rucksacks. He gave us the key card and pointed us to the lifts. There was no 'can I help with your luggage?' We had booked a junior suite. I could only describe it as a family room- two adjoining bedrooms, one with a single and extra pull-out bed. There was no wardrobe as such- just an Ikea-style rack to hang clothes on. We were next to a busy main road and there was lots of traffic noise, as well as noise from other hotel guests that we could hear through the walls. The towels were grubby-looking and smelled of stale cigarette smoke. There were small ants in the bathroom even though we were on the first floor. One positive was that the bed was comfortable.||Breakfast was no better. It's hard being a veggie in Greece and even harder when the few veggie options are mixed in with the meaty ones with shared serving spoons. There was the usual fruit, cake, bread etc. Plus the 'hot' foods which were barely warm- eggs, sausages and what seemed to be reheated pizza- maybe last night's dinner leftovers? ||The receptionist who checked us out in the morning was really helpful and friendly. She helped with our bus tickets and booked a taxi for us. Luggage storage was 'you can leave them behind the chairs over there.' So we left our rucksacks behind two chairs in a corner next to the entrance door. ||This place did not cry out 5 stars. I would give it 3 stars at a push. We're currently spending a couple of nights in a hotel in Piraeus which cost half the price and is so much better. Save your money...
Read moreI've just come back from another enjoyable holiday at Garden City. We stayed at apartment 606 which had a great view of the pool and was impeccably maintained and cleaned.||The last visit (of many) was in January 2023, the pool was warm and well supervised by a very attentive Lifeguard. We enjoyed a warm welcome at the pool bar from all the staff there. The food was excellent. The sandwiches are probably much bigger than you would expect and are a meal in themselves.||The apartment complex is very conveniently located for the beaches from Troya to la Pinta. There is a choice of restaurants on the doorstep, a small but well stocked shop near the complex entrance and a larger supermarket at San Eugeno shopping centre within very easy walking distance.||I have no hesitation in recommending Garden City , especially for couples and families.||Personally we use a taxi to come and go to the airport, the queues are not onerous and the fare around 25 euros each way. Reception can however arrange for a minibus transport to the airport if you book it a day before, which would be especially suitable for groups of four or more.||Booked next visit before leaving , been there about 20 times||Only gripe is sunbeds which are routinely "reserved" by putting towels on them all day but not using them all day. However in quieter months then there are sufficient sunbeds. Its a non issue for me as I seldom use them. There's an upper pool too, which is not heated to the same level, which is a bit chilly for January but great for March to October (imo). There's plenty of sunbeds there but you'll have to walk a short distance to...
