I've never found it this hard to write a review as some aspects were amazing but also some aspects needed serious improvement. Let's start with Julia and Epistimi. These two ladies are gold and need a promotion or raise. They made all the bad feelings we had at first almost completely go away. Also breakfast is amazing (don't forget two sausages each morning for Lombi the cat. Lombi is very loving and her love language is food not a headscratch ;-) ) and although expensive, the dinner is something you should experience at least once. The little snack on your nightstand every late afternoon and the goodbye present is also nice. On our check-in and check-out day we were able to use the pool during the whole day which was something we were grateful for.
Then the things we did not like. A first impression is so important and we noticed that this had a big impact. When you start with a -1 it's hard to get back to 5 stars and you get annoyed with many things. The woman with the black loose hair at the reception (seemed like the head of the department) wasnt the most easy going person. Not a warm welcome. We booked through booking.com where our credit card was validated and is working and never had problems. But in the Netherlands we have an app to approve payments with our credit card and the pin is never used anymore. So I didn't remember my pincode. And instead of thinking in solutions the reception lady straight away said: "Well you need the pincode". Making us feel quite not at ease. After stressing we asked if we could just pay with a debit card. This wasn't a problem. I feel instead of straight away putting up a forcefull voice she could have stayed friendly and asked if we maybe had another payment method available.
The self check was a lot of work and not something you look forward to after a long trip. It was annoying as at our previous stays in Greece, this same holiday, they always did it for us.
Since we didn't have the hotel tour (which was our own mistake) we didn't know what was where. I saw a picture on Google of a jacuzzi and asked the same reception lady after two days if this jacuzzi was in a room or if it was in a common area. She replied, again with a bit of unkind tone, in which rooms it was available but that an upgrade wasn't available. I told her that was allright and that we were just curious as we saw the picture on Google and weren't sure where it was as we didn't have the tour around the hotel. She replied that she couldn't show us the jacuzzi on the tour because like she said it would be just a closed door because the rooms are taken. Just the whole interaction made me feel awkward again. Not sure if her English is just really bad or she just really didn't like us.
Luckily after this day we only had to deal with the younger girl with the tail who was kind.
At check out day we went to the room at exactly 11:00 to grab our bags that we already prepared but couldn't enter the room anymore. Had to go back to reception to have our card activated again. Made us feel again like the policies are just too strict. Make it 11:15 (keep check out time at 11:00).
Another thing was all the plastic waste from the Corona measurements. Towels in plastic, plastic handgloves. Just have people show their corona check, measure temperature if you want, have handsanatiser on the tables. This is also how they do it at other hotels currently.
Also the shower screen was broken and due to this water was going into our bedroom. We told them and they would fix it that night but was never fixed we were aware now so would just dry it up every day so we wouldn't slip, but it's pretty dangerous.
Last advise is to make the drinks at the pool cheaper. You could make so much more money. If cheaper we would have definitely drank a lot more. 12 euro for a cocktail and 6 to 8 euro for a glass of wine is...
Read moreHaving stayed in a lot of hotels all around the world, I have to say: this was THE BEST by far. A truly 5 star experience in every way. Checkin: super professional, quick, friendly, including a welcome drink to pass the time until they bring your luggage to your room. Rooms: For our 10 day stay we received a generous upgrade, just because. The rooms are big enough to comfortably hang out, store your luggage and relax from the heat. The TV has all the features you can wish for. The bathroom is very thought through, we had one shower and a baththub with shower. Toiletries in abundance, also of very high quality. Towels and pool towels were changed daily. The bed was huge and super comfy. Pool area: the pool area was spotless clean. You have the choice between regular doublesized loungers or "double beds" with a wooden frame around them for courtains. The pool features also 2 jacuzzi areas which are very nice to relax in. The pool bar personel is very attentative and every few hours you get an extra like fruit, or a mocktail taster, refreshing water spray and (what an attention to detail) a wet wipe for your sunglasses. Food was always delicious with a focus on light snacks, wraps and sandwiches. Breakfast: you name it, they have it. The buffet has a huge variety of sweet and saviour selections, hygienic gloves are provided. Coffee is made freshly, no stale filter coffee in a thermos. Fresh orange juice rounds things up. Hotel bar: you are not overwhelmed by a massive menu but you can get whatever cocktail you desire. The bartenders are super professional with a high attention to detail and finish. Ask for the "Dusk till Dawn"! Restaurant: What a gem. Picking a dish will be the hardest decision you will have to make in that hotel because the entire (changing) menu is divine. Presentation, taste, sides, everything is prepared to perfection and they make you feel like you are in a Michelin star restaurant. Beach: Right across the quiet road is a small, lovely sand beach for hotel guests, complete with recliners and the nice beds. Every umbrella is equipped with a button to summon a waiter so you can enjoy all the specialities the hotel has to offer, right at the beach. Staff: If you until here you probably think it can't get much better but this but the staff is the absolute highlight. The will know what you need before you do, so much attention to detail and if you ask for ANYTHING and the don't say "yes", then they will say "of course". The hotel manager is around a lot and will talk to guests, which is not very common in other places. Breakfast staff will have memorized your room number and favourite coffee by day three. Everyone speaks English SO well, you will never have any issues communicating. Misc.: from renting a car, renting a bike, organising covid tests, the concierge helps you with EVERYTHING. They also have great tips on where to go out in Kos town. Surroundings: The hotel is 1.5 miles outside the old town of Kos. It is a nice stroll but also a great bike ride to the harbour. 5 minutes from the hotel is a small super market where you can stock up on water and sunscreen (or an inflatable donut for the pool!) There are amazing small restaurants just a short minute walk from the hotel that are worth checking out. Final verdict: you book 5 stars but you get so much more. Can't...
Read moreThe hotel is some 2.5km from Kos town centre and the port area. And that was the main issue for us. It would be okay to walk but the cycle path that runs along the road makes this a hazardous journey, as bikes and e-scooters are sweeping past with little concern seemingly for the safety of anyone walking. ||The taxi situation in Kos is a real pain. Not enough taxis full stop. We had a boat trip organised from the port area, and had a great time. But then we had to wait for a taxi at the taxi rank. After 1 1/2 hours we finally got one. It put a damper on what should have been an enjoyable day. Expecting people to stand in a queue for that amount of time in full sun is just ridiculous. We wouldn't go back to Kos for that issue alone.||In addition the orientation of the hotel and Beach area front onto the prevailing winds. Our room was front facing with a large balcony and hot tub. We couldn't really venture out onto our balcony or contemplate using the hot tub because it was so windy as to make it unpleasant. We used the beach area once - very nice and service was good, but the sea was quite choppy and other days it was almost impossible to use do to the wind.||The room was okay - pretty basic furnishings, a stupidly designed bathroom behind the bed with no night lights meaning you had no option but to turn the main lights on if you needed to visit the toilet during the night, disrupting your partners sleep. Turndown was non existent - a couple of bottles of water left in the room - no genuine turn down, or sorting out bathroom towels etc, which given nowhere to hang towels/towel rail meant we had damp towels each morning.||The hotel itself is very nicely done, but with limited grounds to play with, it has the feeling of everything being on top of you. Little space outside of the buildings and pool area. ||Pool area was nice, and sheltered from the wind. Service was patchy. Nobody walking around asking if you need anything, and no water provided.||Breakfast was pretty limited when it came to cooked options, and replenishment was patchy. We did like the milk choices, where you can help yourself from the fridge. ||We tried dinner one night, not realising that entertainment was also laid on. The singing was very Loud and quite intrusive making it hard to have a conversation with your partner. Not many turned out for it and to be honest we wouldn't recommend it. Every evening the hotel had a distinctly empty/quiet feel, so if you are looking for a bit of buzz this is not the place for you.||Overall we thought the hotel was okay, but the location was a big let down as was the prevailing wind making it difficult/impossible to use the beach and...
