When, what you expect is not what you get.
To begin with, I have to say that the communication and instructions from the owners, prior to my arrival at the property, were absolutely superb; right down to the turn-by-turn directions to the shuttle pick up point at the airport.
Incidentally, I was informed that the shuttle would be there at 6pm and it was right on time. The driver of the shuttle bus was full of information and told me exactly what shops and amenities were close to the property and the opening times of each. Priceless info.
So. For the price I paid for my overnight stay, I expected the accommodation to be a basic affair but - as long as the place was clean - I didn’t mind. What I didn’t expect was what I actually got.
Access to the property (which was one of five individual properties in a small, gated complex) was via a beautifully presented courtyard. Time has been taken here to make it look welcoming and very pleasing to the eye.
On entering my accommodation, (ROOM 2) I was more than pleasantly surprised by what I saw and - if I’m being honest - a little taken aback, considering what I’d paid. Tastefully decorated, spacious and complimented with everything I could possibly need for my stay. The added bonus? This place wasn’t just clean, it was absolutely spotless; a wonderful testament to whoever is responsible for preparing it.
The property consisted of a modern kitchenette, an equally modern shower room, a lounge area (with a single bed and wardrobe) and a master bedroom with double bed, wardrobe, dressing table and bedside cabinets.
There was air-conditioning, WiFi, 2 x televisions, a fridge, a coffee machine with coffee pods, a kettle, cutlery, crockery, towels, toiletries and more. I mention these because - even in today’s competitive market - some places still fall short of supplying even the basics.
The only thing that was a “negative” (if indeed it can be called so) was the fact that the shower screen frame is quite low; a fact that I discovered when I banged my head on the top bar. To be fair, I am 6’3” tall so his point is more of a “heads up” than a negative really … if you’re taller than say, 5’8”, watch your head! That said, the space inside the shower cubicle is more than adequate and it has one of those huge shower heads that sprays the whole body. Perfect.
In conclusion, the overall experience of my stay at this property was such, that I would have no difficulty in highly recommending it to anyone. A superb experience in my humble opinion.
Bravo to the owners for getting it right and thank you for making my stay so enjoyable.

Read moreWe stayed at GK Mediterranean Village – Airport Shuttle for two nights (June 17–18, 2025). While the location and cleanliness were solid, there are major concerns that travelers — and especially the owners — should take seriously.||The Good:|Just 10 minutes from Athens International Airport||Free and punctual airport pickup||Clean room with excellent air conditioning||Coffee shop a block away, restaurants within a 10-minute walk||WiFi worked without issue||The Not-So-Good:|Our room was on the second floor with no elevator or ramp, and this was not disclosed in advance. Lugging two large suitcases up the stairs after a long trip was difficult and exhausting.||The key situation is excessive and confusing:||Key in a lockbox with a code||Separate key for front gate||Key for building entrance||Key for the room||Key needed to lock/unlock your own room door from inside||Key required to unlock the gate to exit||This means: you literally need a key to exit your room, the building, and the property — a serious fire safety hazard.||There were no smoke detectors in the room.||The shower water was dangerously hot, with no temperature limiter or scald protection.||The bed was extremely firm — not just firm, rock-hard.||No phone in the room, and no staff onsite, so assistance requires WhatsApp or messaging the owner.||Housekeeping dropped off towels but did not make the bed or clean the room.||We asked for a second blanket, but the one on the bed was removed by mistake. We had to request it again — still no second blanket.||Towels were very rough, like something you'd use in a spa for exfoliating.||No bottled water provided — only tap water.||No room number on the door, which made finding our room unnecessarily confusing.||Bottom Line:|If you're looking for a clean, budget-friendly stop near the airport, this place delivers the basics. But if you're traveling with luggage, have mobility issues, or value safety and support — consider alternatives. I hope the owners make changes, especially regarding the dangerous lock system, lack of smoke detectors, and scalding shower, before someone gets hurt. This feedback is given with the intent to help improve what could be a great...
