Our stay at this hotel’s rating is a hot debate among my family as two of us really liked it and one of us was on the fence. First the positives- the staff. With the exception of the beachside staff and one server we were stuck with both times we went to breakfast, all of the other staff were wonderful. Shout to Sofia and Konstantinos at the front desk, and Yohannis who served us at the hotel restaurant our first night. They are amazing at what they do. Sofia is very warm and welcoming- even though I kept bugging her before our stay because of all the delays and cancellations with our travel. But pick-up at the airport was smooth, check-in painless and the tour of the services great. Konstantinos did our check-in and gave us the tour. He was professional, polite, respectful and welcoming. All the staff with the exceptions I mentioned, made you feel welcomed, engaged you in conversation and looked to help you with anything you needed. The spa was great- our facials were very nice and relaxing and left our faces glowing. The room size is incredible. Though I booked one of their lower end rooms, it came with a small balcony with two chairs and small table (prefect for sunset drinks and relaxing) and slightly obstructed views of the water. The room gave two large Americans with their teenage daughter enough room to spread out and not feel like we were in each other’s way. The bathroom was long - not wide- but offered everything you might need. I loved the toiletries and the thick, comfy bath towels. We were greeted with a bottle of wine; cheeses, fruit and crackers plate; and chocolate bonbons plate. (Tried to take a pic of the plates but my fam got to them before I could.) It was a great beginning to our stay. The room was made up before we got there so the couch was converted to a bed for my daughter. The beds!!! These were some of the comfiest beds we have ever laid on. Even her sofa bed was wonderfully comfy. The hotel is part of larger grouping of hotels by the Myconian. Each hotel has a different vibe, at different levels of the hill, with different views, pools, restaurants, etc. They all share the private beach club designated by the light grey umbrellas with beachside services. Elia beach is also home to the Elia Beach Club that I can recommend for drinks and light foods during the day. I don’t know how it is at night/dinners. We used their Old Town and beach shuttles as much as we could- and here is where our thoughts on the hotel diverge. Though the hotel offers beach and Old Town shuttles- drop-off services are inconsistent coming back. Sometimes we were dropped off at one location and told to walk the rest of the way, sometimes dropped off at our hotel entrance. There were large gaps in the Old Town schedule that would require you to take the local bus back to Elia beach (not bad at 5.40€ for three of us- cash only) and walk to the Myconian beach club to be picked up by the beach shuttle or taxis at night- an inconvenience that really bothered my husband. The other thing that bothered him was the fact that there has no way to indicate to the cleaning staff not to service the room yet as you would still be in the room- no signage for the door handle or light at the door. You needed to call the front desk. Since the rooms are serviced 2xs a day, he felt that was something that should have been made easier. Also, when our rooms were serviced, there was inconsistencies in the replacement of toiletries and towels. Though I would hang up the towels so they would not be removed (per their towel card instructions) they always were but not always replaced. This to me was minor but something that also annoyed my husband is that for breakfast, they have someone seat you- you can’t just seat yourself where you like. And last, for me was that there was no light above our door or to the steps leading up to our room so our first night one of us took a slight spill. Other than this I think this is a wonderful hotel if you are looking for a relaxing seaside stay. I highly...
Read moreThe room and hotel are beautifully decorated. The staff are very friendly. For these areas it's worthy of 5 star. Where it falls short is a range of factors. The location is 30 minutes from Mykonos Town, but a free shuttle bus is offered. This in itself is fairly good, but the lack of basic facilities such as a supermarket in Elia is frustrating. And even in Mykonos Town you are limited to basic mini markets with limited choice, unless you have a car. The food is inconsistent, but mostly good. The breakfasts have a fair selection some of which is very good, but lacks options such as a choice of omelettes or poached eggs. This extra range is what we've come to expect at other 5 and even 4 star quality hotels. The other food is extortionate. A burger is €25 which is double what you would pay for the best London has to offer. It was greasy, over cooked and lacked flavour. The grease was literally streaming out of the burger into a pool and didn't look good and neither did my stomach feel good after it. The water is a massive complaint. €5 per litre bottle with no other option near by is extortion of basic human needs. Add up the c3-5 litres you should drink a day per person for a day in the sun and you could be spending €50 a day for a couple just for water. By way of comparison we picked up 9 litres for €6 in Mykonos Town and even that is high for usual European options. The gym is tiny, it could fit maybe 4-5 people at a maximum. It seems a terrible use of space when there is so much spa space used on indoor pools that are almost always unused. A 3 overall does still seem somewhat harsh as many aspects are easily 5 star, but Mykonos itself has failed to impress and a lack of basic provisions really does make a difference. From the first 7 nights we had 2 fairly good meals and 5 that could easily go down as some of the worst meals of our life. One of which gave us food poisoning. Mykonos Town is also often crowded and claustrophobic. When it's not it is lovely, but every space has been packed with a business or restaurant and it can all get a bit much. For this hotel to achieve 5 stars it really needs to sort out its pricing, supply of basic provisions with a mini market in Elia and help guide guests with a recommended list of restaurants in Mykonos Town or otherwise arrange other local options. Using Trip Adviser doesn't cut it, believe me we tried and as I said the best rated were some of the worst meals of our life. Also, some options on entertainment would be great. Again some recommendations/ guidance, or even a supply of water sports equipment for example. Again many 5 stars offer this and for such a secluded hotel with no where to walk this would...
