I’ve often read reviews on here and thought ‘ok, you can’t please everyone, it’s probably not that bad’ ....but having witnessed first hand at this hotel, I’ve decided to write my first ever review!!||||On arrival at the reception, a member of staff greeted us and everything seemed ok. He showed us down to our room, where we were met by a very fresh smelling, large double bedroom with a kitchenette, an adequate sized bathroom and a good sized balcony. We both commented on how clean it was, great!||THIS IS THE ONLY PART OF THE HOTEL THAT WE CAN GIVE A POSITIVE ON!!||||We spent what should have been ‘a week all inclusive in a 4* hotel complex’ actually eating out most of the time and feeling like we were in the way of the hotel staff waiting to close the place down for the winter...||||PRO’S;||||* fantastic cleaning staff (very helpful and very friendly)||* nice sized room and balcony ||* location into Kassiopi village ||||CON’S;||||* food ||* drink ||* rude staff (telling us they can’t wait to see the back of the place)||* pool bar very dull and not entertaining ||* inside bar area feels like a waiting room ||* restaurant is more like a school canteen ||* no evening entertainment ||* no kettle in the room ||||THEN THERE’S THE ALL INCLUSIVE JOKE....||FOOD||I wouldn’t let my dog eat half the stuff they have served up over this last week...||The meat that is on offer is repeated constantly, then you have a selection of veggies, again repeated, sometimes the same for lunch and dinner?!||Who would really want Brussel sprouts and mashed potato for lunch then have a swim after that?!||Nothing is labelled up...it really is a guessing game as to what some stuff is! Not ideal when you have food allergies!||The margarine (to use on the mouldy bread) is not chilled at all, it’s in and out of the kitchen all day long and has a sour taste to it!||I’ve never been to a hotel restaurant and had yoghurt and salad that wasn’t chilled, left on a table in the middle of the canteen!||Above all else though...the food is at best lukewarm! Maybe it wouldn’t have been half as bad if we weren’t eating cold food for every course??!! ||||DRINK ||The all inclusive bar opened at 10am and closed at 10.30pm||Very limited as to what there is...general tea, coffee, soft drinks, lager, wine and probably the worst selection of ‘cocktails’ I’ve ever seen!||||SNACKS ||What a joke! So at 3.30pm the barman puts out the poolside snacks for you to enjoy...||Every day this consists of half a dozen spinach rolls (undercooked) and two types of cake (which is also available every mealtime in the canteen)...the cakes I’m guessing should be like a Madeira cake, only it’s so rock hard to try and eat, I never got the opportunity to know!||And that, ladies and gentlemen is the all inclusive package....basically full board with the odd shandy and rock cake thrown in if you fancy it!||||Apart from the room itself and the cleaning staff, we were very disappointed with the hotel. It’s very dated and tired, the staff could do with a big shake up and the entire kitchen staff need re training!||||We understand we went at the end of the season, but whether it be the first week or the last week of season, guests should be treated exactly the same! We’ve been to other resorts at this time of year and not received this treatment! Definitely should not be told that they are sick of doing and seeing the same things...and cannot wait to finish...it makes guests feel in the way and it doesn’t provide the greatest atmosphere for holidaymakers! ||||Reading through previous reviews, it’s clear to see the decline in the place over the last couple of years...I’m sure when some of these photos were took 5+ years ago, the hotel was on top of its game...sadly, not any longer!!||I definitely would not be going back there, neither would I recommend it to anyone I know!!||||Funny thing is, we met a ‘lucky lucky’ man in Sidari one of the days. His name was ‘Matt’ and his favourite saying was ‘and don’t come back’....well Matt, I wouldn’t worry too much...
Read moreI recently stayed at Memento for 4 nights and it has been a pleasant stay. The resort is north of Corfu in Kassiopi and spread across higher ground. My room was clean and modern and i had a scenic view of the forest and hills from my balcony (second floor at the back of the resort). There are 4 swimming pools, a tennis court, a local store (open at almost all hours of the day; convenient for extra water bottles, snacks, souvenirs, floats, icecream and British newspapers).
The location is a little aloof and it takes a nice 15 minute walk downhill to the closest beach (Avalaki). This beach was my favourite considering i didn't have a car to tour the Island (something I'd love to do next time). The beach is pebbly so make sure you have suitable footwear; but such turquoise and clean waters so swimming and snorkelling is a must!).
Mememto resort provides a regular and free shuttle service (except Tuesdays) to Avalaki and Kavalaki beach. The latter beach is a little further away, sandy but clean water too. You can see tiny fish and might even be lucky enough to spot a turtle or two). There's also a view of Albania from here. Nice local restaurants too. Be careful with the fruit seller on the beach with their rip off prices!
Food at the memento resort: Hmm. I would rate it 2 out of 5 to be honest. As a vegetarian there were not a lot of options. I was happy with breakfast ie tea, toast and a boiled egg, croissants etc, lunch time salads were nice and fresh with fruit available at all 3 meal times. Dinners was mostly salad again for me. I felt the resort catered more for meat eaters and most hot food looked to be heavily fried even as far as frying stuffed peppers. Soft drinks including natural juices tasted cheap and very sugary so i avoided these. I don't drink but alcohol was available in the all inclusive. The bar next to the main pool also served drinks and snacks at all other hours. There was a lovely waiter that stood from the others (who were all pleasant) who'd go above and beyond his way to ensuring that we were looked aftered well-his name was Nae i believe and truly this gentleman deserves an employee of the year award! What a nice man.
Overall, this is a family resort and they are well organised in terms of in house entertainment for adults and younger children. I would visit again but I'd truly wish for the food to improve with more choice for vegetarians, real fruit juices, baked or grilled foods and better quality to be honest.
The Kassiopi village is also a 5 minute walk away but after dusk -it's best to get a taxi there. Corfu truly deserves exploring in a car and being stuck at Memento is a very limiting experience.
Oh there is no wi fi in the rooms which is a shame. Apparently, it's only in...
Read moreThe Memento Hotel is undemanding, so it is not a recommended place to stay on a holiday. We paid 1750 euros for five people for 5 days, so the price was high enough to expect something better. The rooms were acceptable for a 4 star Greek hotel, they were cozy and spacious. You had enough space for your clothes, and every room had a big terrace. The toilet was a little bit to small, the shower curtain was unpleasant. The rooms were clear, but the cleaning staff didn't change our towels the penultimate day, maybe for minimising the costs, because they did so in every room. The food was really bad. The eating place was the same for the 3 dishes and the best word to describe it is undemanding. The waiters dresses were dirty, the tables weren't clean and sometimes there was a disgusting smell inside. On the other side you could find every time something to eat, but not more than 2 or 3 things. The french fries from the dinner were served in the morning for the breakfast, which was a little bit nasty. The all inclusive bar is what you can expect from a 4 star hotel in Greece. There were only traditional drinks and not the best ones, at least to say. The best aspect of the hotel was the beach. You had some of them near the hotel, approximately 5 minutes on foot, but there were two superb ones, where you could went by bus, which was free. Kalamaki was one of them, it was 5 km away from the hotel, it's slowly deepening and it's beautiful. When we were there, it was calm, the water was clear, and there weren't more than 25 people. For me it was the best beach i have ever been on. The second beach is Avlaki, which was 2 km away from the hotel, and the bus was also for free. It was a nice and calm one, too, but it was with small rocks. There was a supermarket inside the resort, which was very helpful and the pools were nice. There were some irritating aspects. We were a group with 6 rooms, and two of them on the first night were horrible, with broken chairs, nasty beds, without hairdryer, they were like a 2 star hotel. The next day, they changed those rooms, because they knew what they gave us, with the explanation that there was some problem with the electricity, which caused the problem. The 50% of the guests were from Romania, and they can be very impolite sometimes, which was a little bit annoying. Also the majority of the staff is from the same country, but they were polite and nice. In conclusion: nice rooms, good staff, nasty kitchen, beautiful beaches,...
