Kassiopi Mare Mesonettes (Ex Maryhelen apartments) — Hotel in Municipality of Northern Corfu

After reading the other reviews we were really excited about staying here! What a let down! Firstly we booked a transfer which dropped us off in the Main Street and told us it’s just down there.... 8 turns later down some dirt tracks we found it (picture shows the different roads we had to turn down to get there)! The owners weren’t there when we arrived and we let ourselves in and found our room. The pool is SALT WATER despite other reviews saying otherwise. We bought some food and bits in the town and put in our fridge that didn’t seem very cold but presumed it was due to electric not being as strong abroad! In the morning all our food was ruined and the butter was like water... apparently it was our job to pull the fridge out and plug it in when we arrived! 😱 who turns a fridge off! Tried the cooker, this also was unplugged and is not a proper cooker, a microwave oven at best. The rooms are a danger for young children with banisters that have ballastrades with huge gaps! (See pictures!) We decided to all have showers and head out into the town, well, the hot water tank is so small that literally you get hot water for approximately 3 minutes before it runs out! Only my daughter managed to have a warm shower! My husband came down the staircase and a bit of tile fell of the bathroom wall and the unit in the bathroom had rust on it (as per picture)! We tried to make the most of it and one the first night went to bed... which had barely a mattress cover on (see pictures), and was really uncomfortable! Well.... the owners dog literally barked all night! We took a video to show how bad it was! And when the dog finally stopped about 6am then a cockerel started! Worst night sleep we’ve had and certainly not the relaxing holiday we had paid for! ||||||We arrived out of season although it is school holidays in UK, nothing said this was out of season in this place, and found everything bar a couple of restaurants in the town were open, literally no atmosphere in the place at all. No trips available and literally nothing to do in the area. The harbour was beautiful for a walk to, which is about a 10-15 minute walk away from the apartments. I’m sure in the high season this would be a lot more accessible! ||||We decided that we could not stay in this place another night and booked into somewhere closer to corfu town! Completely different. We certainly won’t be returning and have to say I would not recommend it to anyone bar a couple who are not bothered about hot showers and don’t need a lot...

We have just returned from a second wonderful stay at Maryhelen Apartments in Kassiopi. The apartments are set in beautiful gardens, there is a lovely pool area |and it is always quiet and peaceful. We loved the fact that there is no pool bar or loud music - this is a calm and relaxing place. |The apartments have everything you need for your stay, the beds are comfortable and we slept very well whilst we were there. Yes the owners have two dogs, Pongo and Goofy, but they are very well behaved. Of course they bark sometimes - they are dogs! but that is to be expected in such a quiet semi rural location. |The apartments are about a 10 minute walk from the harbour area and about 5 minutes from the Main Street. It’s worth remembering to turn left down by the philippos apartments rather than walking the long way down the road. Booked two apartments at Mary Helen in July, first impression for all five of us was this is perfect, very quiet location off the beaten track, the apartments were the best we’ve ever stayed in for this kind of money, be aware that it is very, very quiet, in a rural location with no on site bar, you may also be awoken early in the morning by the cockerel, there are dogs on site, very friendly and the three teenagers loved them, pool was super clean with very little chemicals, gardens were very well kept and super relaxing, Mary and Ellen are lovely friendly ladies and let you get on with your holiday, these apartments will not suit everyone but I personally had a great experience, will...
