Where do I even begin?
The hotel is in a very busy area so please be mindful of that, sleeping at night you’re definitely going to hear cars all over. The area itself is not aesthetically pleasing either, there was run down buildings along the street also, so for photos it’s definitely a no. But if u want good photos, go to the roof top. The actual hotel itself was dusty, unkempt and very old. The photo’s definitely don’t match what it is in real life. My family and I shared a family room with a double bed and a single bed. The single bed was tucked away in the corner, it made me feel uncomfortable that i literally had to sleep with my mum on the double bed. The swimming pool on the roof was the highlight of the whole hotel but…getting up there was rather scary. If you have young children with you, make sure you are with them at all times there’s no lifeguard up there.
The breakfast options didn’t look as appealing and definitely lacked a variety. I never disrespect such things but it definitely was not giving 5* service. If anything it should be -1* , how are they getting away with being a 5* hotel? I don’t know. Btw, if you want to be in central Athens, (Syntagma) staying at this hotel is not realistic, considering by taxi it’s at least an hour, costing you €100 at a minimum to get there. We almost screamed at that price and instead took a train, eventho it’s cheaper, it was easy to get lost and it took a long time to get to Syntagma, (atleast 45-50 mins).
When it came to our last night, my mum had asked the reception if breakfast could be ready made for us - in ready to go boxes as we had to leave for the airport at 6am, and breakfast don’t start ‘till 7am. That following morning, we open the boxes of food and all there was, was stale sandwiches with plain ham wrapped in cling film. It didn’t look appetising nor fresh. We most definitely did not eat it and were rather hungry as well, which didn’t make it any better. Even though my family and I stayed such a short time, in past experiences of other hotels in Greece, Athens we have had better.
Would I go to Piraeus Theoxina again?...
Read moreThis is absolutely not a 5-star hotel. The lobby looks fancy, but we found the customer service apathetic and unfriendly, the facilities awful and the rooms run down. We stayed here out of convenience due to arriving into the port late and needing to get to the airport early the next morning and just needed somewhere with amenities to recharge. The location was ok - 15-minute walk from the port and 5-minute walk to the train station. Not many restaurants nearby though. The facilities were shocking. I was going to post photos but saw that a recent review posted photos of the gym so look there for further evidence. Neither treadmill worked, the red carpet rubs off onto your clothes and sneakers, there are 3 sets of heavy dumbbells and otherwise the two racks for dumbbells are empty, and there were no mats or other floor equipment like exercise balls or foam rollers. The pool deck had a lovely view but was covered in bird poo. The pool water was freezing too. Furthermore, the free breakfast is not served until 7am which I found disappointing since it is likely a hotel where travelers need to leave early to catch planes and ferries. They said that there would be coffee, juice and sandwiches ready for us at 6:45 when we needed to depart which I confirmed with them through email before our arrival and again in-person at check-in and yet we still had to wait 15 minutes for these items to be ready on the morning of our departure which put us to the airport late. (For reference, it’s a 1+ hour trip to the airport and not many cafes are open that early so it was important for us to have some food and coffee before we left the hotel. We found the entire experience very disappointing and like we were ripped-off. We do not...
Read moreUPDATE NUMBER 2 -- now the pool is finally open as it's now 28-29 degrees every day, they have not bothered to even try and clean it, it's been open for over a week now and there's scum covering the bottom and bones and bits of dead bird where the seagulls have been feasting up there in their private pond. I've added a picture for reference to see the leg and foot of what could be a pigeon 🤮 absolutely disgraceful for a 5 star hotel.
UPDATE-- just when I thought this hotel couldn't get any worse, I've gone up to use the pool today as its 25 degrees, and it's closed! I phoned reception to which they said, "oh I don't really know, it's dependent on the weather"........ Are you having an actual joke, there's not a cloud in the sky and it's boiling! Another complete let down with the place!
I really do question the sorts of places people stay when they give hotels like this a 5 star review 😂 SPOILER!.... this isn't a 5 star hotel by a long shot, the entire building is dated including everything inside it, the gym is a complete no go, looks nice on the pics but anyone can make somewhere look nice with Photoshop 🙄 went downstairs to the 24/7 gym facilities, every weight rack is empty of weights and the machines look about 20 years old, not even a simple bench in there. There's live power cables hanging out of the walls, lights missing, only one of the running machines work, there's dead cockroaches everywhere down there pics added for reference. The carpet hasn't been changed in more than 10 years so it disintegrates all over your trainers 🤮
I'm here for 5 weeks so I'll keep this review updated as my stay continues, so far first 4 hours here not...
