Vatsiko (Nyn & Aei) — Restaurant in Municipality of Rethymnon

Wonderful and tasty. It's home cooked traditional Greek food at its best.. You can definitely feel the love put in the cooking, that secret ingredient that turns food into edible gold. And I have to say i was amazed by the service, it was a really busy day, the waitress spent her evening running from table to table, but still she was soooo nice and friendly, i can't believe she even apologized for not being at the top of her mood that day... now i really want to come back to see what a great day would look like, because the way she welcomes you on a 'bad day' is infinitely more welcoming than 'the best day ever' of any waiter of touristic place We had the shared menu with 6 plates in the vegetarian version, which will definitely delight any vegetarian. But I topped it with a succulent meat ball plate. ;) And the price is more than affordable, so be kind and tip accordingly :D

Definitely a place to go for dinner in...

Overpriced, lacked flavour, service under par. 25 eur for “6 dishes”, 3 of which were really just dipping sauces (tzatsiki, mashed beans, mashed eggplant). We asked twice what the 6 dishes were, and were told that 4 items would be non-starters (including stifado, meatballs, filled eggplant and some chicken stew). The stew tasted like some watered down chicken curry, and stifado was replaced with a dip. We were not served water nor asked if we wanted anything to drink. Bread was also not given automatically, even when they knew half their dishes would be dips. If this place was once good, it has turned into quite the tourist trap with overpriced dishes that cost almost...

The taverna is located in a picturesque alley and looks inviting in the evening lights, hence we decided to sit down there. We ordered the menu with 6 traditional Greek dishes and wine. Well, the food was very basic, not flavoursome, quite bland. Edible, but not enjoyable. I used the toilet and was appalled how poorly kept and unclean it was. Would've never eaten at the place had I seen it in advance. When we wanted to pay the bill the waitress said "only cash, because the machine is broken". We said that she should've said so before and we don't have cash. And guess what, the machine miraculously worked!...
