My wife and I have just returned from a ten night stay in Calla Luxury Seafront Suites, Crete and our reflections are full of superlatives.||Mike (short for Mihalis) is the owner manager with his wife Katja and we left life long friends, looking forward to our return.||We spend our 44th Wedding Anniversary there and quickly realised after many years of global travel, the key to successful accommodation, restaurants etc. was the quality of management, staff and customer service. Calla Luxury Suites tick all the boxes.||Mike has a lifetime of Senior level experience, managing top World class hotels. He has drawn on this experience, filtering the 'good, the bad and the exceptional' to design and run a six room only, vacation residence. There are more staff than rooms, with customers and their wellness and enjoyment, their only priority.||All the former reviews were true. Perhaps a few reflections below could be added:||Rooms were super comfy, had high quality beds, showers, sinks and baths (depending on the class of room)..oh,and a decent sized unstocked fridge, were sound proofed from outside and next door and enjoyed sea views opposite. ||Bed linen, towels etc. were crisp and regularly changed; toiletries were quality brands; decorations were high standard and finishes were re-touched up every year to maintain the quality feel.||Housekeeping: The whole building is spotless and rooms are maintained to a very high standard daily. Staff clean and polish, water plants, tidy...if they have time to spare.||There were little touches like fresh bottle water everyday, welcome drinks and surprise chocolates.||There are many places to relax..on the upper terrace, next to the plunge pool in front or under one of the 20 parasols/sunbeds, cleaned daily...just for you. There was a feeling of space while we were there. We weren't conscious of other guests and saw only a couple. The main concept of the hotel is for visitors to relax, switch off and enjoy quiet time.||The building also has a small but well stocked bar area, which doubles up as a breakfast room. The breakfasts provided the best and freshest of Cretan food, with other options.||Perhaps the most important memory will be of the Staff. Can my wife and I thank Elenis, Ilia and Marianne whom we loved, (in alphabetical order) for looking after us: They were a key part of our stay. Their work clothes looked so smart and professional.||We enjoyed all our conversations with them, and their patient encouragement to learn their language and customs, as well as sharing their views, advice and humour.||Not forgetting their service, which might include sitting to the rear of us (only us), on a beach chair for hours waiting for us to order a drink or lunch (yes, we did feel guilty).||Finally to Mike and Katia. Thank you so much for the welcome that made us feel part of your family. Nothing was too much trouble for you..constantly smiling, suggesting things, chatting, answering questions, ordering taxis, liaising with the outside world and letting us enjoy your vision.|Many thanks...|Bernie and Sue||[[To anybody thinking of staying, there are many good restaurants in Rethymno, but two are close by Nostos and Kai: These two are top notch, but very personable..we went 2 and 3 times respectively to the above. Calla Suites is a pleasant 25 minutes walk from the Old Town along the Prom....brilliant for sea air exercise..and a quieter area to stay.|The Red Bus sounds tacky, but try it especially getting off at the Military Museum in the mountains (a visit should be on the Global School Curricilum) and eating in the old, authentic village taverna, in the small...
Read moreI really don’t know where to start… My husband and I were looking for a perfect place for our honeymoon. After reading all the good reviews at Tripadvisor our expectations were high. |Did this place live up to the expectations? |Oh hell yes it did!!|The hotel itself is a small, brand new, modern and clean place with great location.|The beach is just across the road, with sun beds and parasols that belongs to the hotel. |The old town with the best restaurants is 2 km down the road (We like it quiet and calm, so nice to have this place just outside the city centre but still close). ||The breakfast is very nice, they go to the bakery every morning so everything is fresh. |The beds is super comfortable, it’s important to get a good sleep, and the air condition gives a nice temperature. ||The hotel is perfect, but the best part with Calla is Katja, Michalis and their team.|You can really tell that they love what they do. |They have many years experience in the hotel business, and opened this project on their own. |They do all the extra to make you feel welcome and comfortable. When we arrived late at night we even had an ice cold bottle of rosè with a personal congratulation-note because of our wedding. |They genuinely want you to have a perfect stay, and they help you with everything! They have so many good tips on what to do and where to eat. |This is definitely a place to recommend, and we would love to come back. |We wish Katja and Michalis all the good luck, and hope many others get the chance to experience this beautiful place 🥰 |...

We spent 8 unforgettable nights at Calla Luxury Seafront Suites at the end of July and beginning of August, and we truly couldn’t have asked for a better experience.
From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed with genuine warmth by the wonderful family who runs this beautiful boutique hotel. Their hospitality felt heartfelt and personal — always ready with a smile, helpful local tips, and a willingness to go the extra mile to make our stay special.
The suites are elegant, modern, and immaculately clean, blending luxury with comfort in a way that immediately made us feel at home. We especially loved waking up to the stunning sea view each morning — a perfect way to start the day. The attention to detail in the room design and amenities was outstanding.
Location-wise, Calla is ideal. Right on the seafront, just a short walk to Rethymno’s charming old town, beaches, and excellent restaurants. It’s close enough to everything, yet still peaceful and relaxing.
What made this stay truly memorable was the warmth and care of the people behind it. This is more than just a beautiful place to stay — it’s a place where you feel looked after, appreciated, and welcomed like family.
Highly, highly recommended — and we’ll definitely...
