The reception, pool and dining areas are great. Clean & fairly quiet. It looks beautiful at night with all the lights & it's located on a low traffic street. The beach is only a 10 minute walk away & the town center maybe 5 minutes, so that was convenient.
Regarding the food, it was well cooked, seasoned & tasted good, sometimes great even. The rooms are quite big and the decor is nice. My favorite was the spacious balcony with a garden & pool view.
That being said, there are quite a few things we weren't that happy about.
When we arrived we weren't treated with a warm welcome as all the other reviews here say, we felt unwanted. Granted, we were quite early because our flight was at night but that doesn't mean the staff can't be friendly & welcoming, right?
The rooms look much newer & nicer on the website than they do in real life. I know, that is often the case, still, we don't fancy being mislead. The room itself was clean, the same can't be said about the bathroom. It definitely needs to be renovated but that wasn't the main issue. There were dirty/moldy parts on the silicone of the bathtub/shower combo, the walls had dead mosquitos all over it (same in the bedroom) & the toilet seat had urine stains on it. Not under it, on it.
There is much furniture in the room that is very old & a bit smelly. It had things written on it & words scratched into it & it just wasn't nice to look at.
What also bothered us a bit, was the fact that a restaurant was advertised but there is no restaurant. Don't get me wrong, they do serve food but they don't have a kitchen, ergo they don't have a restaurant. They cook the food somewhere else & then bring it to the hotel where it's then reheated in a microwave. As I said in the beginning, the food tastes good but it often was lukewarm. On top of that, the times during which you can eat are very short. Breakfast was for a meager 1:45h (8:15 - 10:00am) & dinner was served for two hours (7:00 - 9:00pm). After 9pm, everything was closed & locked up except for your rooms & an upstairs patio. The pool area was closed, reception was closed, tables & chairs area, closed. We weren't expecting that & I have never experienced that before in a hotel.
The overall main issue we had, was the lack of proper communication. What you weren't told, is that the food is indeed not prepared in a restaurant as advertised but prepared beforehand in an external location & that meant, if you did not book the dinner or breakfast with your stay, you had to tell the reception the day before or in the morning, that you would like to have dinner that evening. This lead to another couple not being served dinner on their first night because no one told them, that they had to book the dinner in advance. I get that they do it for environmental reasons, but you do have to let your guests know! We had the dinner included in our stay, however, the dishes are on rotation & more often than not, we found ourselves not wanting to eat what was served. You could also not choose what to eat/order, it was take it or leave it. We ate elsewhere many nights for the before mentioned reasons, but we always felt bad because the staff made you feel like you are wasting food if you do not let them know early enough that you aren't coming to dinner. It felt weird & again, not like we were actually wanted.
You were also not allowed to bring your room towels to the pool or beach, you'd have to bring your own towel or rent a towel from them for 8€ per use. You were also not allowed your own drinks or snacks at the pool, however, if you lay at the pool, no one is coming to serve you, you have to go to them & ask for what you want & they would then make it for you (with a little attitude) if they had it on hand. Generally, the staff was not very welcoming not attentive, they rarely smiled or were in a pleasant mood.
It was nice that everything was vegan, but just because that is so, doesn't mean you can slack on almost everything else.
The concept is good, the execution is lacking. I hope in the future they will improve on...
Read moreIf you are looking for a warm, relaxing and easy stay, Goji has got you covered. ||My wife and I have stayed at Goji 2 years in a row now and both times Giannis and the team (including the lovely Cockapoo Sakis) have been wonderful hosts. Goji is a small hotel with a big heart and everything you need for the perfect stay. Firstly, Goji is very easy to get to from the airport whether by bus, taxi, or hire car. It sits a short walk from the beach and getting into Rhodes city is also a simple ~20 minute bus ride. There are lots of excursions and trips possible on the island with many pick up points at bus stops close to the hotel. ||The restaurant and pool area are perfect for relaxing and socialising with some lovely drink and snack/lunch options. Breakfast is served typically as a platter with fruit, often something baked, and usually a fresh yogurt or similar. If you are half-board or getting dinner at the restaurant, the food is absolutely excellent and of course vegan. The portions are extremely generous and it's a multi-course affair. It's excellent to experience real Greek home cooking and they even have a little cookbook which we of course had to buy!||The rooms are comfortable, spacious, and clean, and although the bathrooms are dated, I believe they plan to update these soon. The balconies make for some lovely morning sun. The rooms even have a little kitchenette area if making some of your own food take your fancy.||Sustainable and ethical ways of life are what this hotel is rooted in and it shows in everything Goji do and plan to do. It's also great to stay somewhere with many likeminded people, prioritising our planet and animals. Giannis and the team are extremely attentive hosts and prioritise making your stay as easy as possible. Giannis himself has gone above and beyond for me at our last stay when I unfortunately lost my wedding ring on the side of the hill up to Filerimos Monastery (a great trip to make if you want some stunning views over Rhodes). He dropped what he was doing to drive us up and spend an hour looking for it. Unfortunately we didn't find it but the care shown by Giannis and Goji then and the entire week, made for some wonderful memories.||We'll be back soon without a doubt and can't wait to check out their new hotel in Rhodes itself too - Açai...
Read moreMay 2024 review:||5 stars isn’t enough! I cannot recommend Goji highly enough - we had such an incredible week there! A few key things:|- The room was spacious, comfortable, equipped with a small kitchenette and had a nice sized balcony.|- The food was truly incredible. We enjoyed every single meal and were excited to try things we wouldn’t normally have. We got the cookbook the hotel produced and will definitely be making some of these in the future!|- The location was great. A short walk takes you to supermarkets, shops and restaurants, as well as the beach. Bus services can take you into Rodos although note that they can get very busy so allow plenty of time to get to your destination! We also organised a coach trip to Lindos for €20 which picked us up very near the hotel!|- The real highlight for me was the staff. They are such an asset to the hotel! Giannis, who runs the hotel was extremely welcoming and always available to answer questions! Alexandra, who worked the afternoon/dinner shift was so friendly and we really enjoyed getting to know her over the week! She also makes an amazing aperol spritz!! Aris, who worked the morning shifts was equally friendly and helpful. Mr Nikos worked on admin in the background and kept everything running smoothly. Mary kept our room clean and tidy each day and ensured our toiletries were topped up when needed. Last but not least, the furry friends of Goji… Sakis, the beautiful cockapoo was often around and was always excited to get cuddles. There were a number of stray cats around the hotel (and far more across the island), some of whom were very friendly and enjoyed having a stroke or two.||In short, we had an incredible week at Goji Hotel and are already planning a return trip.|Book - you won’t regret it!!||Update May 2025 - I just returned home from my second visit to Goji and it was just as incredible as my first. The planning now begins for my third trip in 2026! Returning this year was so special. I was greeted by the Goji family so warmly and I truly felt at home in their beautiful hotel. It’s not common that you can stay at a hotel and really get to know the owners and staff - it’s just one of the many things that makes Goji special and it means you finish your stay having made some new...
