I went as a 2 and had a bad experience here to be honest. It started okay, we were seated quickly despite the busy restaurant, and were given some nice drinks, being one of the rare places here with draft lager with the taps working.
We both ordered Halloumi to start, which was nice, and we ordered pretty simple mains with us having prawns and pork gyros.
Soon after we ordered the mains, there seemed to be a power issue with some interior lights seeming to flicker and turn off.
We saw someone fiddle about with the light switches before eventually they turned back on.
After an hour of waiting for the mains, we asked for some more drinks. There was no acknowledgment or apology for the wait and no one had even looked at us on our table since we had our starters.
After an hour and a half, the person I was with got up and asked how long the food was going to take. A man then rushed into the kitchen and disappeared for a few minutes.
He returned and apologised ‘from the business’ for the wait, stating an issue relating to the power caused an issue with our order and that it would be a few more minutes. He offered a glass of wine on the house, which we politely declined.
We watched as family after family that sat down after us got their mains, including a couple who ordered the same prawn dish we did, before we got fed up and asked for the bill, deciding to leave.
Just as we were about to get the bill, the man came over again with our food, insisting we eat it. I had a bite of the pork gyros and almost had to spit it out immediately - it tasted off and had a strange smell.
I’d consider myself pretty well versed with food and up for trying anything, this is my first time in Rhodes but I have had Pork Gyros before on this holiday and enjoyed it, so I knew something was up with this particular dish. The chips also looked bland.
We immediately sent it back and asked for the bill again. Two separate people came out and asked if we are paying by cash or by card, before a waiter came out and said that the entire bill was on the house, which was kind of them.
In fairness, they were very apologetic once we asked about the wait time the first time, and paying for the bill was a nice touch. There are just better restaurants even on this street to go to. I...
Read moreWe had the pleasure of dining at Platon, and it was a truly enjoyable experience.
Drinks:
• House Red Wine (0.5L): €7 I ordered the house red wine, which was dry, fruity, and absolutely delightful. It paired wonderfully with our meal. • Mythos Beer (0.5L): €4 We also had a Mythos beer, a classic Greek lager that was refreshing and reasonably priced.
Starters:
• Greek Meze Plate (for 2): €18 For our starter, we chose the Greek Meze Plate, which came with a variety of traditional dishes. The meat salad and fried cheese were the standouts for me—both packed with flavor and perfectly prepared.
Main Courses:
• Moussaka: €14 I opted for the Moussaka as my main course. It was served in a traditional clay pot, adding an authentic touch to the meal. The dish was rich, hearty, and everything I hoped it would be. • T-Bone Veal: €17 My girlfriend had the T-Bone Veal, which tasted great, though it was thinner than the T-bones we’re used to back home. Despite this, the flavor was on point, and the portion size was satisfying.
Service & Atmosphere: The service at Platon was excellent. Our waiter was friendly, attentive, and quick with our orders despite the restaurant being quite busy. We did have to wait a bit for a table, but the bustling atmosphere made it clear that this is a popular spot—and for good reason.
Overall Experience: Our experience at Platon was fantastic. The food was delicious, the portions were generous, and the atmosphere was lively and welcoming. I’m already looking forward to our next visit, where I hope to try the Stifado or explore some of their...
Read moreMy family and l, tried for the first time Plato restaurant after chatting with a random stranger local guy in the beach nearby that recommended it. All we have to say is that is a great culinary experience of truly Greek, traditional food! Exceptional food, service fast and polite and ambience of the restaurant itself which is full of plants, flowers and green surrounding you. But most importantly good quality food in well sized portions and in great prices too!! We will try this restaurant again and would highly recommend it to others. All tavernas restaurants should be like Plato to promote our amazing Greek island inspired cuisine and culture without being a rip off! I would recommend you to try among others the bekrí mezé (slowly cooked beef in wine and red spicy peppers-tomato sauce), keftedes (meatballs with herbs), the tender huge pork steak, their own salad and the fylo pastry parcels filled with feta cheese,...
