Elements Cave Suites — Hotel in Municipality of Thira

This accomodation was beautiful and a life saver when we were badly let down by our other accomodation in Megalochori, Santorini.||A big part of the success of a holiday depends on the success of the accomodation you book. And it is central to how you will remember the experience. Your accomodation provider has to be trustworthy and reputable, with a real care for your safety, comfort and convenience. Elements Caves Suites was brilliant.|We had booked Zephyr House, a neighbouring accomodation, through Booking.com about 7 months in advance for our May 2024 trip from Australia. We paid our money in full before arriving for Zephyr House. All appeared in order and we arrived on the agreed date.|Some 3 hours before we were due to arrive, we were notified by Booking.com that the accomodation was “cancelled” by the provider. |Unfortunately there was no-one to welcome us when we arrived at Megalochori village nor anyone to contact.in Santorini. Our efforts to contact the owner only resulted in the owner referring us to the supposed operator of the accomodation. The operator also refused to deal with us and said we should talk to Booking.com . Booking.com were unable to shed light on what had happened and said they had received late notice from the operator that the accomodation was withdrawn. They endeavoured to find alternative accomodation for us and eventually agreed to refund the money paid, and cover us for extra expenses incurred-which they have done. We were, however, now left to our own devices as we were in Santorini without accomodation and over 29 hours away from home in Australia.|After a day of frantic efforts, including receiving great personal assistance from some of the locals of Megalochori, who were very sympathetic to our predicament, we found alternative accomodation with Elements Caves Suites in Megalochori. They were terrific, had terrific accomodation, were anvailable and helpful and got us out of a real bind, even though we had no booking with them. Thank goodness it was not high season , or we would have been left standing on the street, some 20+ travel hours from home. At no time, either while in Megalochori or before arriving, did the owners or operator of Zephyr House contact us, either to apologise or offer assistance in finding alternative accomodation. By way of contrast Elements Caves Suites could not have been more helpful or reliable. And the standard of accomodation was excellent and the CEO/operator very personable and helpful.|Ironically, on recently checking we found that Zephyr House are again taking bookings for next month, June. Business as usual I suppose. Why they are allowed to keep trading with a Booking.com imprimatur is puzzling. |There are clear warnings in this experience. Always book through a reputable accomodation aggregator which stands behind the products it advertises, as Booking.com has done here. If we had booked with Zephyr House directly on the internet we would have lost our money with no prospect of getting it back. To this day we have not heard from those behind Zephyr House and have no means of contacting them and finding those behind this business.|We were told in Santorini that this scenario is unfortunately not uncommon. |We highly recommend Elements Caves Suites. Elements cave suites was the best part of our trip, it exceeded our expectations in terms of service and hospitality by the amazing host Vasia who went above and beyond to accommodate us after encountering a glitch in the booking system. She did everything to rectify the matter and for that we are very grateful and cannot recommend this place enough. Everything was impeccable, the property is a hidden gem in the beautiful village of Megalochori,so well maintained and has such a wonderful feel. We were away from the hustle and busy streets and enjoyed the charm of this place. I would highly recommend staying in Megalochori especially with kids, when visiting Santorini and definitely at Elements cave suites. The cave was absolutely beautiful and made to look extremely homey and comforting whilst also fitting in with the atmosphere of a cave. Everything was already ready for us down to every little detail including the A.C. already having cooled the rooms before we got there. Internet worked great the entirety of the time . The area around the cave was incredibly scenic with flowers decorating the area and a wonderfully set place to enjoy the greenery outside. Not to mention, the host Vasia was very accommodating and came to us personally to introduce herself. She made the experience all the more memorable and we were very lucky to meet her.
