West East Suites is is the very definition of an idyllic, magical Santorini experience. We've all seen the postcards and magazine pictures of majestic Santorini, but, in West East Suites, you can get the those same wondrous views from your balcony. We had a deluxe suite and it was chic, spacious, and modern. The bed was very plush and comfortable. The TV had a TiVo so you can watch movies from your Netflix and Amazon accounts. Not that you'll need them - the view from the balcony will captivate your attention all holiday. We couldn't take our eyes off it - Thirassia island, the volcanic caldera, the Aegean, it's all there for you every day. You'll never get a better hotel room view anywhere. And I mean anywhere. The view was simply breathtaking and worth the room price alone - we spent most of our holiday either drinking, eating, or relaxing in the outdoor hot tub on our balcony. It was comfortable and you can alternate between sunbeds, a seated table area, and a decadent hot tub. The latter was another fantastic part of the stay. Being able to jump in a lovely hot tub at any point in time with that view ... you can't beat it.||But its not just the view ... the hotel has a lot more to offer.||The breakfast experience is an absolutely peerless highlight. There is nothing more spectacular than having your breakfast brought to you on your suite balcony every morning after a dip in the hot tub. You just sit in your robe with with a dazzling view of the Aegean sea and caldera as a generous, personalised breakfast order is laid out in front of you. The breakfast service and restaurant team were absolutely outstanding. My partner is allergic to gluten and dairy, and they were able to provide her with a great range of breakfast options, including gluten-free coconut cake! Nothing was too much trouble and they always did their best to accommodate any of our needs.||The other facilities in the hotel are a bit basic, but that's not really a fault because this is a series of suites a rather than a resort hotel. So there is no shuttle service, gym, spa, sauna, or steam room. You can get a massage organised that is delivered by an external company in your suite, which is a unique, indulgent experience in itself and highly recommended. The staff on the whole are very friendly, incredibly professional, and do their best for you no matter what you need.||The food is very good. I've reviewed the main Fly Away restaurant separately and it is hit and miss. We dined there a number of years ago (which inspired us to stay here this time) and it was a faultless fine dining experience. On the occasion we ate there this holiday, it was great but not amazing. However, there are plenty of places to eat in Imerovigli, Fira, and Oia to suit your tastes for all cuisines.||Bottom line ... if you want the picture book Santorini holiday experience and view, this is the hotel for you. No question....
Read moreThere are not many words wich can describe this Hotel and it‘s related Restaurant. But let me try it with this lines:
I‘m a Gastro Entrepreneur since 15 and trained Chef since 35 years. So with all respect, i think i have a handfull of knowledge about the food industry and how to treat guest the best way possible.
BUT the experience at the West East and it‘s “Fly away” restaurant, exceeded my expectations like a new dimension. The Reception with all it‘s staff is more than friendly and you feel heartly welcome instantly in the most honest way. Bag service, a short tour and a basic explanation how things run, are just perfect. What a start for a amazing holiday.
The room we booked (6E) was, like i would design my „happy place“. A double Terrace with a, once in a liferime view“ and a private Jacuzzi which is almost a lil‘ swimmingpool. Mini Bar, mini Winecooler and a various selection of finest spirits welcome you everyday. Story short, a room to live a goooood live. Roomservice is also included, even if it‘s just for a latte, which was the best i‘ve ever had. My wife ejoyed the perfect choice of Prosecco and Champagne!
For Dinner Time we went just a couple of steps down to the Restaurant, which is publicly open and is one of the best Dinner Restaurants on all of Santorini. Reservation is no bad idea. You can choose between poolside tables and tables which are set just next to the bar. As later it gets, the Bartables are more confy, because of the winds from 8:00pm.
The food was the biggest surprise at our trip. I‘m really wondering why this place has no Michelin Star or something similar. From finest Tartars, Carpaccios to Lobster, Lamb or Steak. Each dish, just amazing. Holy Moly we got crazy.
A big thank you, to the most friendly staff, from the breakfast crew to the Dinner Gang. Chris the Restaurantmanager is your friend from the first day on.
For the sunrise and of course the worldfamous sunset, „west east“ is THE best place to be on the island. And believe me, i have no reason for not telling the truth. My wife and me just had one of the best stays of our live.
Thank you West East and see you sooooooon! ❤️ Rene & Astrid, from Austria, EU (May 22‘)
NEXT STAY:
We were here for our 2nd time. (you can find our first review from 2022.) And again, the holiday of our lifetime. All the crew is so nice, from reception till housekeeping. And the Restaurant……. it‘s getting better and better. This is the only and very best, fine dining place all over santorini. Christos and his restaurant crew are doing a fantastic job and the food is just amazing. 2 Star Michelin i woud say. Astrid & Rene from...
Read moreStarted as 5 stars and slowly dwindled down. We paid $1500 (one night) for a private suite with heated pool.
Not that private when all that separates you from the main pool is a curtain which was difficult to open and close and had gaps on the sides. Countless guests walked by, looked in, and stopped directly in front when the curtain was open.
Main door auto locks which is annoying when getting out of the pool to tan and then to go inside you need to go through the pool again.
A bird set up a nest over the pool and unfortunately one of the babies fell into it along with several flies, bees and debris. Although it was quickly cleaned we were still skeeved out and some pieces still floated around (expected some kind of treat for inconvenience but got nothing).
Couch was very uncomfortable for someone with back pain, I get the modern design but it was unbearable at best. Shower water could not keep consistent temperature and would fluctuate wildly.
Forget sleeping in the bed, covering yourself in newspaper would feel more comfortable on your skin. I’ve had better sheets in 2 star hotels (which is why this is getting 2 stars). A/C could not cool down the space or pump air far enough to reach the bed.
When dinner was brought into the room, we were left to set it up ourselves. TV kept making a buzzing sound. Mini bar and snacks were ridiculously expensive.
During the night, the outside privacy curtain fell off due to high winds and woke us up, upon inspecting the screws that came out it was evident that proper anchors or thick enough threading were not used. Outdoor door never closes properly and would swing back and forth in the wind.
The cherry on top was having a very early checkout during which we were informed breakfast was not available and would have to settle for anything that didn’t need to be cooked (turkey toast sandwich, black coffee and orange juice, a little yogurt with honey and bananas, not a 5 star hotel meal).
This was not worth $1500 by any measure. Instead, stay at Iriana Suites in Fira for way less with better and more private views where the staff will bend over backwards to make sure your stay is 5 stars.
Only good things to say was Netflix on TV (not in bedroom), pool was warm and not too hot, and food was excellent. Otherwise a very...
