Very surprised with this rating for such a bad meal. I am not writing кумушцы usually, but have to when it comes to this disparity between rating and reality. We are coming to Santorini for many years and we are lovers of fine dining and Michelin restaurants, so I assume our opinion might be some kind of objective. We came to try this place as one of the best fine dining restaurants in Santorini by Tripadvisor rating.
Let’s start from the seating – there are around 10-15 tables in total, from which half are outside with good view, the other half is under the roof with windows towards the caldera, which have view only for one of two people sitting (I was looking to my wife and mirror). Windows from the caldera side were closed, preventing fresh wind from entering this “outdoor” space. Though it was very hot. But, nevertheless staff decided it is not hot enough and they fore 2 or 3 gas fireplaces, located 1-2 meters away from this “outdoor” space, so the heat was going inside there, under the roof, making the temperature even worser. Brilliant decision to heat your tables in summer, while all other decide to cool the.
The food. The menu is rather small, there is no set menu (funny for the highest rating fine dining restaurant on the island). Only 2 bottles of red wine from France (for around 600 euro for each), some other international bottles, but mostly local. Gerovassileou Avaton for 85 euro is quite overpriced (30-50 euro in other fine restaurants). I ordered beef tartar and rooster, my wife tuna and lobster. Beef tartar was just uneatable. At all. 0 of 5. Spoiled by terrible sauces and flavours. Was a big surprise that such a bad taste of dish is in a menu of the restaurant with that rating! Rooster was eatable, but very dry and with no taste. As overcooking chicken. 2 of 5. Lobster was ok, nothing special 3 of 5. Tuna was not good as well, 2 of 5. Please note, this is clear opinion for the food, without involving of other things (bad table setting, heating for fireplaces, etc.)
Service was well, some minor mistakes, but they are kind and friendly.
In general, 2 of 5, because the service was trying good. But the location, the setting, and the most important – food, are miserable. We were really surprised they have this rating, so sorry guys, but it is fair to share our opinion to other people. I don’t know who write that great reviews and for what reason and why there are no bad reviews with this kind of food, but we wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone and for sure it should not be on top of other nice fine dining restaurant...
Read moreI feel like a crazy person writing this review after seeing all of the 5-star reviews, but I have to be honest about our experience. The view of the caldera is beautiful, no doubt. The restaurant is located on the pool deck of a modern, chic hotel and is tastefully decorated. There is an extensive cocktail list and variety of food options to choose from. The visual presentation of the food is beyond anything I've ever seen - artful and interesting. Unfortunately, the flavour of every dish was lacking in balance (especially in terms of acidity; there was none) and in some dishes, the flavours of each component actually took away from each other (e.g. in the scallop dish, the puree buried the delicate flavour of the scallops). Everything needed seasoning. The prawns on my uni pasta were raw, and I don't believe they were intended to be (purple/blue in color and barely warmed through). The flavour of the uni pasta sauce was good, but it was so rich and lacked relief in any fresh or acidic element. The service was lacking, which at first we thought was a cultural difference, but we noticed servers being much more attentive to other tables. Not once did our server stop by to ask us if we wanted another cocktail or drink. I was very excited to eat here after reading the reviews and seeing the photos, and I'm a huge foodie, but this was a let-down, especially for the price. We found better meals elsewhere in Fira, Imerovigli, and Ouia. If you still insist on eating here. just a note that the portions are huge, so order less than what you think you need to start. But my advice - save your money and...
Read moreThis was hands down the best meal my wife and I have ever had. The view speaks for itself, but my god, the food!! To start, with your meal you get an amazing assortment of homemade foods. Tonight it was the beet root soup, with a tomato based bread with capers and homemade butter, as well as a fried rice ball with dill. All compliments of the Chef! The drink we got was the Sunshine, a lovely concoction by the bartender. Our starter was beef tartare (a first for me!) with a basil oil in the center, which was divine! I had the Lamb, which was melt in your mouth tender, with potato foam! My wife had the Beef, which was cooked to perfection and the sauce on top was such a perfect balance of flavors. The dessert was a chocolate based blessing from heaven, the name of which escapes me but you’ll know it when you see it! And the best part was the staff. Chris and the other staff members are a well oiled machine and it is very clear that they work VERY hard to ensure each person has an amazing time. Chris goes above and beyond, ensuring every couple gets a beautiful photo together with the sunset, going so far as to walk us out and ensure we had a perfect evening.
5 Stars is not enough, they deserve at least 7 and that still is not doing them justice.
If you like good food, good people, the sunset, and great drinks, go here. There is simply no other...
