The view from the Above Bistro is undeniably stunning, but 2 things to note:
If you're going to view the sunset, make sure you bring a set of sunglasses. As the sun is lower in the sky, it's a little blinding
The outdoor seating area is the place to be, but note that this will depend on how windy it is on the day. When we visited, there were strong gusts of wind. We (and another couple that arrives after us) initially wanted to sit outside, but quickly changed our minds after seeing how strong the gusts were.
In terms of the staff, they were polite and friendly. Nothing to fault here.
Lastly and most importantly, the food. We felt some of the dishes were a little lacking considering the price point.
Our order was as follows:
Handmade spreads Bread and butter - Very nice freshly baked bread, with a lovely crust and soft inside Taramas - Very flavoursome, however you definitely need the bread, else it's a little rich. Not a fault, just an observation Santorinian Fava - Tasty fava mash with an earthy flavour. The pork sausages had a nice outer crust, and complimented the fava very well. Can be eaten with of without bread
Starters Shrimp Ceviche - This was great and reminded me of Thai green papaya salad in terms of flavour Octopus - A very photogenic dish with octopus that's been cooked for 8 hours. Flavour was ok, not amazing
Mains Shrimp Orzo - Again, it was ok. It had what I believe was thinly sliced rice cake, which was different Rib-eye - I think this was the biggest disappointment as the meat wasn't particularly tender nor flavoursome. For €65 I certainly expected more
Dessert Lime cream - We shared this as I'm not really into dessert. It was very tasty, though small
Drinks Wine - We ordered some €95 bottle of white wine, which our server recommended. I won't bother posting my thoughts as I'm more a beer drinker Greek coffee - We had Greek coffee multiple times on our trip, and each time there was fine sediment/slurry at the bottom of the cup. The coffee at the Above Bistro however was very gritty (like regular ground coffee I'm used to), and as some of it was floating, it added an unpleasant texture. Not sure if this is normal, but as I say, it wasn't our experience at other establishments
Nothing was "bad" as such, but we expected more so left feeling a little disappointed. I personally...
Read moreI was looking for the perfect place to propose to my now-fiancée during our trip to Santorini, and I came across Above Bistro. From the very first enquiry, the team made everything so easy. I asked about the private sunset dining experience online, and Joanna quickly followed up via WhatsApp with all the details and photos. The communication was clear, reassuring, and incredibly professional – exactly what I needed for such an important moment.
When we arrived, we were absolutely blown away. The table was beautifully set, and the view… it was unlike anything we’d ever seen before. We’ve travelled together and witnessed some amazing sunsets, but nothing compares to this one – it was truly unforgettable.
The service was outstanding. Our waiter was warm, knowledgeable, and attentive throughout the evening. We chose the fish menu, and every dish was phenomenal. What made it even more special was that he discreetly captured the moment I proposed without giving anything away beforehand – a memory we’ll treasure forever.
From start to finish, the whole experience exceeded our expectations. The setting, the food, the hospitality – it was all perfect. Five stars simply isn’t enough. Above Bistro gave us a memory we’ll carry for the rest of our lives, and I couldn’t recommend it...
Read moreSynopsis: My wife and I highly recommend this restraunt and their amazing sunset views!
Above Bistro was the crowning jewel on our trip to Santorini. From the moment we arrived (they have a small parking lot if you choose to drive), they met us at our car and led us up to the balcony seating area for our reservation. All of the staff were extremely accommodating, but our waiter, Yiannis, was fantastic. He went above and beyond and was a gentleman. The food was excellent. We started with 2 cocktails, and they knocked it out of the park. We enjoyed their hummus spread, and it was the smoothest hummest I have ever eaten. For dinner, I had a pork steak and my wife had a beef steak. Both were cooked to perfection. By the end of the meal, we skipped desert as we were too stuffed, but there were options for that as well. We had booked a timeslot to enjoy the beautiful sunset views, and we did. There was no rush between courses, and a wonderful relaxed feeling in the restraunt. Tables were spaced apart, and though the restraunt was full, it did not feel cramped at all. The service, food, and views here are...
