We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Katikia guesthouse in Vitsa and sincerely recommend it! Sofia and Tasos are such wonderful hosts and make you instantly feel like you are visiting true friends. The newly renovated traditional stone house is an inspiring eclectic combination of original features and tasteful contemporary design signed by Sofia herself. You fall asleep wrapped in clean, crisp white sheets on the most comfortable mattress and bed, breathing the clean mountain air and listening perhaps only to birds and crickets outside. In the morning Sofia prepares an incredibly tasty array of homemade breakfast foods and drinks that await you on the rustic kitchen counter. Marmalades and juices made from fruits that are grown in the garden, honey from their own beehive are just the highlights! While you are enjoying your breakfast in the garden Tasos can tell you everything you wanted to know about local fauna, flora, history and culture. He organizes and guides different local tours. You don’t want to miss the tour of foraging local herbs and fruits. As a keen sportsman and also a mountain rescuer he definitely knows the best hikes and other interesting activities in the area (skiing, rafting…)and can give you useful tips on how to attend them safely by yourself if you prefer so. At the end of your stay you leave Zagori, Vitsa and Katikia guesthouse inspired, with warm impressions and a desire to quickly return. Perhaps to see natures beauty in...
Read moreTo think we had considered cancelling our trip to Vitsa because of the dire weather forecasts on the many apps we had consulted! We are so glad we decided to ignore them - we ended up having a wonderful few days in Tassos and Sophia’s serene and welcoming guesthouse. The beautiful traditional stone house has been sensitively and tastefully renovated. The rooms are comfortable and spotlessly clean and the whole atmosphere in the house and the bountiful gardens is calm and warm. Breakfast is homemade and plentiful with Tassos’s delicious jams and Sophia’s bakes – the breakfast room/conservatory is bright and overlooks the lush green of the gardens. Tassos is so welcoming, helpful and extremely informative about his beloved Zagahoria region with its unique flora, food, traditions and music. He gave us spot-on tips for a different restaurant for every night of our 4-day trip and was a mine of information on the beautiful trails and hikes in the area. One of the highlights for us was the wonderful private guided walk he lead, exploring enchanted paths, a deserted monastery, a stone forest, and ending up at the Oxya lookout over the Vikos gorge – highly recommended. We were there in mid-September and, as Tassos assured us, don’t get caught up in the weather forecasts – any rain passes over so quickly and we got lots of autumn sunshine. We can’t wait to come back! Jane,...
Read moreOnce upon a time my family and I visited the famous Zagori. My family's expectations when we visit a mountainous area with a tourist background are not very high. We just have the need to be there. On the mountains! Until we met the family of Mr. Tassos Anestis. It was a short time since Mr. Anestis had left his comfortable life in Athens. Mr. Anestis had a vision. When we met in a traditional cafe somewhere in Vitsa and he described his vision to me, I noticed the fire in his eyes. I believed him. I left. I came back after some years. I met him again and I couldn't believe what I saw. The vision of Mr. Anestis with flesh and bones and ten times better than what he had described to me. I had the honor of staying at his excellent guest house for 5 nights with my wife and children. I really can't recommend it enough. Whatever I say will be little, as we say in Greece. The only thing I will say is that because of Mr. Anestis and the conditions he has created, my family and I want to be more often in the mood to spend our holidays there. My warmest regards, Mr. Anestis, to you and to your wonderful family! We are looking forward to visit you again in the...
