We had an amazing stay at Mon Repo. The service is very very good. Upon arriving Sakis, the host, had already remembered our names and nationality and greeted us in our own language. He sat us down, gave us a drink and pulled out a map and starting noting down the most important information we needed for our trip. He gave us points of interest, activities, restaurants and also told us of some things which were better to be ignored. We were of course free to do what we wanted, but I appreciated the tips from someone who knows the island a lot better. We actually visited one of his favourite spots on the island and the view was spectacular and very much worth the drive. Restaurants that were recommended were good and had plenty of options, they gave us a great table upon mentioning Mon Repo, so definitely use that! The private pool at our room was amazing, no words. That's what vacation should be like.
A little further down the road is the general pool and poolbar. There you can get simple, but tasty food for a great price. Across the road is a restaurant Akropolis where you can have a good meal for a decent price (compared to the rest of the island).
The breakfast that was included was served at the poolbar and it was massive, definitely bring an appetite because it is a lot. There was toast with jam, eggs, cake, another sweet treat, fresh fruit, yoghurt and cheese and ham. a cup of coffee and an orange juice every morning. I naturally gained some weight, but it was very tasty and a good way to start the day. It usually lasted us almost throughout the day and towards dinner. Quick note, if you are vegetarian, they bring you ham and cheese on the same plate and they touch. If you don't like that, you will have to mention to them every day to separate them or to leave out the ham.
Sakis and his family are very friendly and are there for you, you are made to feel welcome and at home and if there is anything you can approach them. Luckily we hardly needed the service, but it was nice to have. Upon arriving there's the option to buy some bottle of water for the trip, to save you the hassle of walking to a supermarket. There was enough for our entire stay and one bottle was already cold in the fridge. Simply excellent!
Please not that hotel is close to Laganas Road, which is the main road with lots of clubs, bars and tourist shops. It's about 5 to 10mins walking distance. About 15m to the beach where there are some nice bars/restaurants to drink a cocktail.
We had a very good time and would recommend Mon Repo, especially because of the service and hospitality provided by Sakis and his family. And of course because of the...
Read moreWarm, friendly check-in with useful island tips set a positive tone. Our room was clean but small; the A/C was strong and efficient. We were placed street-side, and the sound insulation is weak, so traffic noise was clearly audible—light sleepers should request a back-facing or higher-floor room.
Breakfast is fixed and very basic each day: carton juice, white toast, a small cake, a croissant, scrambled egg, a few slices of cheese/meat, yoghurt, and a small fruit bowl. We had communicated food allergies in advance, but no alternatives were offered (nothing milk-free for my wife’s allergy, and nothing suitable for a no-bread diet). This was our biggest disappointment.
On the plus side, the pool is a good size (≈15 m) and there were plenty of sunbeds whenever we visited. There’s a pool billiards table (appears to be pay-to-use). Snacks on site were available and of good quality. Prices felt on the high side for guests, and overall Laganas was pricier than our previous stay in Stalis, Crete.
Area note (Laganas nightlife): The main street isn’t advisable late at night—we saw a lot of drunk tourists and drug-related solicitation. We stayed in early September; the hotel owner told us July–August are even crowdier. If you’re young and after a lively party scene, this may suit you; otherwise, consider staying off the strip in the late hours.
Staff were hospitable and helpful, and overall facilities were decent, but the noise and unchanged, allergy-unfriendly breakfast held the experience back.
Traveler tips:
Ask for a back-facing or higher-floor room for less traffic noise.
Confirm allergy options in writing before booking if you have dietary needs.
If nightlife isn’t your thing, avoid the main strip late and pick routes on side streets.
Category ratings (our stay):
Comfort: 8/10
Cleanliness: 7.5/10
Facilities: 7/10
Breakfast: 5/10 (identical, fixed menu; no allergy/no-bread alternatives)
Snacks: 8/10
Hospitality & helpfulness: 8/10
Overall: 7/10 — friendly service and a solid pool scene, but street noise and the non-accommodating breakfast reduce the...
Read moreThe owner’s behaviour was extremely rude and it seemed like he showed a preference for elderly guests. I look much, much, younger than my actual age and my passport was only glanced at, not fully checked (it was returned upon reminding them of the legal requirements for non-Greek citizens to carry passports or similar ID, the latter of which I did not possess). ||||I firmly believe that Sakis discriminated against me based on his negative perception of young people. This perception was passive-aggressively conveyed during the patronising check-in speech about the so-called dangers of Laganas. The only dangerous thing however, seemed to be the location of the hotel itself, where people camped in squats and drank noisily at night, just up the unsafe, dimly lit road.||||When paying by card (for preferential exchange rates and convenience), Sakis became very moody indeed. I’d have happily paid a surcharge though, all he had to do was ask. Because of this, we felt uncomfortable and stopped using the bar, choosing to go out instead. ||||I didn’t rate the Laganas nightlife myself. I found it boring, full of laptop DJ’s and just not my scene. Maybe you needed to get drunk to enjoy it, but I personally didn’t want to waste my money doing so. Food on the strip was good though, mainly Gringlish but νόστιμους! ||||Despite returning quietly, saying hello to the security guard and being very respectful throughout, we were sarcastically accused of being drunk and disorderly the next day. We were gaslit and he tried to make us feel like bad people, but I know 100% that we did nothing wrong. In fact, the way we were treated left me with such severe anxiety that I now have panic attacks returning from nights out, both at home and abroad. I noticed that Sakis had no problem with the elderly guests filling the bar with cash, staggering around, telling us how drunk they were on our first night though…||||Anna and the other staff seemed like good people but unfortunately, the room was uncomfortable and Saki’s attitude left us really upset. I wouldn’t recommend this...
