I stayed at Hotel Los Olivos for a week last month. The location makes it worth the money. I would probably return if I went back to Xela, but it's definitely worth looking at other options.||||Pros:||-The food was good and very affordable (I tried both the plato tipico and the plato Americano breakfasts - I recommend the tipico, though both are lovely)||-The location couldn't be better: less than 2 minutes from the Central Park, decently close to the municipal theater and the democracia market ||(The hotel also used to be very near a building with shops, restaurants, and clubs, but the building was destroyed by a fire in August)||-Affordable||-Hot water AND good water pressure (hard to find in Central America)||||Cons:||-The wifi was awful - couldn't even send an email so I gave up and went to a café||-Extraordinarily noisy at times: I was awoken at 6am one morning by a huge group of students eating breakfast, talking, and giving speeches (?)||-The services is a bit questionable. At times the waitresses were quite rude and some of the men working there would leer at the women in our group. Also, it is prohibited to bring back guests to a room (perhaps because the hotel is owned by Christians?), and they're very...
Read moreWe stay at this hotel every spring break for the last seven years. The staff is consistent: good, friendly, helpful and they go out of their way to accommodate our crazy students. Sometimes the other patrons are noisy on weekends. The food is safe for Americans, potable water is plentiful, and the food is good quality. It's close to the square and it just depends on what your needs are for the city. Sheets are changed every day, bathrooms cleaned, and they are upgrading to flat screen TVs (although I've turned them on while there). The kitchen staff is really accommodating and friendly. It's across from the Black Cat hostel which has good drinks and great nachos and sandwiches. We keep going back because it's a sure thing. It's not four-star but economical, safe and we know...
Read moreI thoroughly enjoyed my stay at Hotel Los Olivos. The staff were very friendly and helpful, with cheap and traditional breakfast options available. The interior was basic but pleasant and the bathrooms were also basic. However, there is a beautiful rooftop patio with a great view of the local volcanoes where you can (possibly!) catch the daily eruptions. Parking is also available if you have your own car, and it is located only a block or two away from the Central Plaza. Across the street is a hostel by the name of Gato Negro with admittedly better Wi-Fi and more dining options, but Hotel Los Olivos was great as a...
