We arrived at the hotel a little after mid day and asked if they had available rooms. We were taken to an OK double room with private bathroom and we took it. After a long day of travelling we settled in, showered, napped, unpacked, and then went to explore. Later that night, when we're we ready to get into bed (literally in our pyjamas) the hotel manager knocked on our door to kick us out. He spoke in rapid Spanish, but from what we gathered the room had been double booked. I believe the other intended tenants were louder in their complaining so we were unceremoniously booted out after hurriedly scooping up all our stuff. We were taken to another, worse, hotel, and then the manager of Hotel Mansion del Lago tried to charge us for the two nights we hadn't spent there AND two nights at the hotel he moved us to! After some time we cleared up the confusion: he seemed to think we had already been two nights at his hotel. Worrying, he moved the new tenants in without any attempt at cleaning, so the sheets were not changed and the toilet bin unemptied (you can't flush paper in Guatemala, so that is particularly unsavoury) despite thinking the room had been occupied for two nights! Dreadful service and we were then totally ripped off at the hotel we were sent to, who charged us the same room rate, despite being a lower...
Read moreOur mission trip group stayed here from 5/27 to 6/3. This is my second time staying at this hotel. I stayed at this hotel last year around Feb for another mission trip. ||||The accommodations were of good quality for Guatemala. The night manager, Mateo was very accommodating. ||||It is centrally located, close to the dock and restaurants in the area. The cafe downstairs is a must-visit. They have literally the best coffee! You can also purchase coffee by the pound here.||||The second and third roof levels have the best lake views and we enjoyed watching the stars at night and looking at the sunrise in the morning.||||Recommend bringing ear plugs as the tuk tuks run almost until midnight. The new mayor changed their schedule so they don't run at all hours of the night anymore. The bars also seem to close down around midnight as well.||||They have free wifi which is fast for Guatemala. Just note that with any internet service, it will get saturated when you have 45 or more people all connected which happened regularly to our group. It was still workable. They also have an internet cafe connected to the coffee shop downstairs.||||Overall it's good value for your money. I would definitely...
Read moreI am not sure what happened exactly with past reviewers but my stay here in June 2022 exceeded my expectations. After six hours of traveling I went somewhere else first, the hostel where I had made a reservation online and had it confirmed, only to find it boarded up and closed for the season. Exhausted and frustrated, I took a tuk tuk back down the main road near the ferry dock and consulted my guide book, which led me to this lovely gem of a hotel. They had vacancy and checked me in right away. All for Q100 a night. What a godsend! ||||The rooms are basic but well maintained and very clean, with firm beds, reliable wifi, and nice touches like furniture to store your belongings and a coat rack. The room also looked freshly painted with a soothing pale blue shade that I found particularly relaxing and enjoyable. Plus, it is close to everything, the ferry dock, restaurants, convenience stores, and bars. I am so glad I found...
