We researched our trip to Roatan quite a lot before traveling. When looking for a place to stay, we wanted someplace centrally located with nice amenities while still maintaining a sense of the island. Turtle Beach seemed to fit all those needs, so we booked for two weeks. Of course, you never know how a place is until you arrive, so there was some nervousness. That feeling quickly dissipated upon arrival, and after two weeks the only thing we felt was a sadness at having to leave this incredible spot. From the moment we were picked up at the airport by Rigo (who is a truly wonderful and kind hearted man) we were made to feel welcome. He not only stopped at the grocery store for us, but also bought us Baleada's for lunch that were delicious! We were greeted at Turtle Beach by Paul, the owner, who gave us all of the info we needed for our stay. We stayed in Eagle Ray, and it suited our family of 3 perfectly. The space was comfortable, and the screened in porch was great. We had some minor issues a couple of times with hot water or the AC, but they were handled quickly by Paul, which we appreciated. The Hummingbirds were out of control! There are feeders all over the property, and watching them became a daily highlight. And then there are the Macaws… There is a mating pair that visit twice per day and feed on a platform attached to the largest house on the property. Paola, who is Paul’s fiancé (and is wonderful!) took us up there when no one was staying at the house and we fed the Macaws and watched them for half an hour in utter amazement. She then told us that because no one was staying there for the next few days, we could go up whenever we wanted and watch and feed them. We did this multiple times, and it was truly one of the highlights of our trip. Magical. The dock/Palapa is a gem and we spend an hour or two out there every day in the shade right on the sea as our 11 year old called in the hammock. And then there is the snorkeling. Roatan is obviously filled with great spots, but one of our favorites was just doing it right in front of the property. During our time there, we saw Puffers, Lionfish, a Seahorse, Jackfish, Barracuda, Sea Urchins, Lobster, and even Octopus when we night snorkeled! My wife had some stomach issues and Maria (who helps take care of the property) was beyond helpful and compassionate. She is just a genuinely kind person who wants to make sure your stay is perfect. On our last night, we spent about an hour out on the deck with Paul and Paola, and it was a wonderful way to end our time. They shared some of their history, and also the history of the property, which was great to learn about. When we were departing, there weren’t just goodbyes, but genuine hugs all around, which is unusual in our experience. And we could tell that it wasn’t just a formality, but that it was a genuine expression, and not unique to us. Turtle Beach Dive Resort was not only the perfect location for us, being a respite from the resorts of West Bay and the action of West End, but it was also the perfect spot for us in so many other ways. We feel sad to have left, and will certainly visit again.

My wife and two daughters stayed in the Mayan Villa at Turtle Beach Resort for the week of January 20-27th. Paul, Larry, Mary, Rosa, Carlos and the rest of the gang are all so awesome. They treated us like we were part of the family. The villa itself is stocked with everything you need. The beds are comfy and you get a great breeze opening the windows and running the ceiling fans. At night, we closed the windows and ran the a/c (my wife likes it cold for sleeping). A/C in the living room and each bedroom work great. There are 2 swimming pools on the property and one of them is on the deck right out the door of the villa. Larry came by every morning to clean the pool. There also an amazing outdoor kitchen we used to cook dinner twice. Beautiful dock with palapa, hammock, swinging bench and comfy Adirondack chair. Everyone congregates on the dock to relax and chat. There's really nice snorkeling just 20' off the shore to the right of the dock. We also made use of the kayaks they provide on several days, including paddling up to West End one morning for snorkeling in Half Moon Bay and lunch at Ginger's. Speaking of, the location is awesome. You're smack dab in between West Bay and West End. You can walk (a little tricky to West End but not bad), kayak, or grab a water taxi for $3 to either location. But Turtle Beach is nice and quiet with very little traffic...basically like having you're own private beach. The water...amazingly clear! The coolest thing is the lengths everyone at Turtle Beach went to making sure we had everything we needed, giving recommendations and setting us up with excursions. One day, we asked Paul about the Roatan Rum Company and told us to jump in his truck and he'd take us up there. When we got there, they were closed so he said "lemme show you some sights very few people get to see" and took us out to a "keyhole" in the Iron Coast where we took amazing pics,, and then to an overlook in the woods where you could see all the way to airport. When we returned I asked about finding someone to take us to a couple good snorkeling spots we couldn't reach by shore and he recommended Raymond, a local Islander who happened to be there working on his boat. Following morning at 9, Raymond met us at the dock and took us to the Blue Channel, Spooky Channel, Starfish Alley, past Anthony's Key to see the dolphins, through the mangroves, and then one final snorkeling stop way offshore in front of Turtle Beach. All in all, a 4 hour trip and he charged us just $30 each! Raymond even gave me his favorite recipe for cooking octopus! I could keep going, but trust me when I say you will not be disappointed if you chose Turtle Beach Dive Resort! Now I know why they have people coming back every year. Thanks again to Paul and the entire gang! You guys are awesome and we'll definitely return with a bigger crew!

I cannot recommend Turtle Beach Dive Resort enough. Traveled with a group of friends (30’s-40 something’s) and we had the most amazing time. The resort had snorkel gear for us to use to do some snorkeling at the end of West Bay and on a private tour with our water taxi driver, Big John. We used kayaks to kayak out to the reef about 50 yards from the resort and snorkeled from there as well. Gear, rafts, kayaks all part of our resort amenities. A private van provided our round trip transportation to/from the airport and was available for other activities if we needed. I interacted the most with Paul and Rosa who were wonderful to say the least. The thoughtfulness and kindness they provided exuded a warm welcoming energy like we are part of the family. Rosa is even available to cook a meal for you while you stay. We didn’t take her up on it this time but surely will our next trip, after we catch a big 🐠 on a charter! I stayed in the Monkey which I believe may be their smallest room but it was perfect for two people. I will stay in that room again and again. The window doors slide open and I enjoyed sleeping that way every night and waking up in the morning to the beautiful Caribbean blue water. You have a front row view to see the macaw’s 🦜 from the stairs and watch them fly by while sitting on the screened in porch. The grounds were always kept clean and well maintained. A lot of care, time and attention goes into creating a welcoming atmosphere for their guests. Mosquitos and sand fleas were not an issue for me, and I’m prone to being bit. I did wear bug spray daily, not just at night, so I’m sure that helped. Bring a flashlight to go down to the dock at night, we caught an octopus there one night! Thank you TBDR, I can’t wait to come back!!
