Unfortunately, all those negative posts turn out to be true about this place. ||This is our worse place to stay for our 23days in Iceland. And to be fair with those we had stayed, I waited until we saw it all to give this rating. So it get what it deserves. It should be one and half but I run it up. ||The reason I booked this place was based on it has parking, breakfast and kitchen in my room. It also got average rating that I thought it can’t be that bad. But I was wrong!||It had some staffs communicating with me through emails before we arrived. I specifically asked about lactose free breakfast and was told it shouldn’t be a problem. So we did not stop by at grocery store to get them and it was a big mistake! There wasn’t anything for the following three morning while we were there. And those kitchen staff basically just said they were not informed. Well I am telling them in person and still get that kind of response/attitude without trying to make any efforts to get better. ||When we came to the hotel, there were no reception and it’s a self check in which is very common in Iceland. Immediately we went into our room, the room felt like a steamer! ||Later there were a nice lady at reception, we asked about the warm issue in the room. We were told because it didn’t have AC and that was caused by sunlight! It’s one of the warmest month in Iceland and the room felt like we were at Hawaii!||Other than that there were no cooking pots in the room. And I was told that my room is the only room has kitchen and they don’t keep up with it. Does that sounds a satisfactory answer to you? Later, it was drop in while we were gone. But it’s a very cute size that you can not cook a full meal out of it. ||The house keeper has done a good job to keep the room clean. She also gave us extra towels after we told her the shower leaking water on the floor all over instance and those towels were so old and broken for us to use. We think she is only one really working hard in the entire hotel along with the nice reception lady. ||Our room is roomy for two. It had a tub but the faucet is not working. It takes forever to have water fill up and it turns cold right away too. We gave it up and end up walk to a local swimming pool to use their facility instead.||This hotel is located at weird surrounding area. The neighborhood look kind of decaying and not safe. We did not move our rental car at all because of the parking space problem as others mentioned. Instead we bought the City cards which includes the bus fares to ride in and out of the city. Often we walked to Hilton side to catch those buses. We were kind of regret that we didn’t stay with Hilton. ||The elevator is also a very slow and tiny one. The funny thing is the hotel posted something on the elevator to remind everyone not to steal foods from breakfast! It really treat people like a thief! I mean the breakfast is really nothing to write home about. Why would people want to steal it?! We laughed!||About the breakfast selection, lots posted talked about it. Yes it is very basic. You won’t miss it if you don’t come down for it. It’s also the less selection in compare to other hotels in Iceland. ||When there was a chance, we saw a reception manager at her office. I stopped by and asked about those missing things from our stay. Basically she just told me that she just got back from her vacation. She kept saying the hotel got a very good reviews. Well that really doesn’t solve anything and we kind of wonder how she got this job for real. ||If you have read to this far, you might want to asked yourself do you really want to go through everything those people have experienced?! It’s your vacation and it’s your money. For us, we regret to say that save your money and go somewhere else. Most of the places in Iceland are all very good but not this one for sure. ||BTW, a good review is what you really work for it not a spontaneous base on some ancient...
Read moreI will make a Pro Con List as my review. Pros Manager was helpful/friendly. Things are clean I liked that I could go to the Laundry Room to get my own fresh towels when needed It is quiet Laundry available Provided a City Map Good Wi-Fi Elevator Shuttle buses and taxi's for tours will come to this hotel. TV and Fridge available
Cons The location is a bit far from the city center where everything is. Taxi was expensive, as the hop-on, hop-off bus was not the most convenient time-wise. I did not like the fact that they did not have anything for breakfast. They have things there to cook (microwave, coffee), but the last thing I wanted to do on this fast-moving vacation was to go to a store to try to figure it out. I think they should at least offer something. They have the space for it. (Bagels, Cereal) The blinds do not block out the sun. They were a brown color which actually illuminated the room. The blinds need to be black. I had a hard time sleeping because of the sun every night. The Room is small. No where to put your big luggage. No room service, although you can get your own towels. Check-in process is supposed to be easy, but not if you dont have phone access. The email was never sent to me with all the codes to check-in. Thankfully, someone let me in and I was able to use the phone to call the manager. He promptly came down to help. I would prefer some sort of reception guest greeting. There is a reception area, but no human working it. No AC. It is cool when you open the window, however, the car noise is too annoying to keep the window open, so I was hot at night. The shower was hot/cold/hot/cold. One min it is the right temp, the next it is burning you. I'm not sure if this was because other people were flushing or showering. Could never figure out the shower situation.
Overall, this hotel was fine. There was nothing "wrong" per se. However, I was expecting more for my vacation, as well as for the price. It is a self-serve hotel, but I feel they could do more. The hotel did not make or break my vacation....
Read moreThe vision of Hotel Muhli is “felt hospitality”. Here are three instances in which our family’s experience at Hotel Muhli far exceeded that vision! We were in Iceland ( March 26-31 2025) to celebrate my daughter-in-law’s birthday. 1.When I asked at the desk if there was a place I could order a cake, the face of the "receptionist" lit up with a genuine joy! “We will take care of everything- decorations and cake!” It’ll all be ready for her when you return from your day exploring. Leave it all to us-this is what we love to do!” We returned that evening to an immaculately cleaned room, filled with giant and small balloons and a lovely table set with a cheese cake, candles, and plates/cutlery, ready to celebrate. There was no single staff member to thank, no tip would be accepted. They refer to one another as “colleagues” and obviously have discovered the joy in working together and in sharing that joy! 2.On the morning of our departure, my granddaughter couldn’t find her white teddy bear anywhere. It was a calamity! After searching our own belongings, her daddy had the thought that it was picked up with the white sheets headed for the laundry. He asked, and again, our needs became theirs. “Oh no, we must find the teddy bear!”. Everything else stopped; ‘colleagues' in the laundry room dug through the piles of dirty linens…rescuing bear and a little girl’s heart. There is a Hilton Hotel across the street from Muhli. Late one night, the staff member on duty (who is in Iceland studying for his second degree in international relations!) explained the vision of the founder of Hotel Muhli who knew that this small hotel couldn’t/didn’t want to compete with Hilton…as he spoke it was obvious that this charming man shared the vision and acted on it... giving us all keepsakes from his native Ghana & leading us in singing a happy birthday tribute to my daughter-in-law! You must go and FEEL it for yourself!! JoAnn Miller-...
