I purchased an Around the Corner Iceland Vacation from Icelandair Holidays for my children and me. Our flight arrived in Iceland around 7:30 am. We got to Hotel Ísland - Spa & Wellness around 9 AM. Our room was ready at the time of our arrival at the hotel; however, in order to check in early, I had to pay 10,000 Icelandic Króna.  This was a shock for me as I was unaware that there would be an extra fee for early check in since this hotel was part of my package deal.  We were exhausted after our long 6-hr flight and wanted to rest before exploring, so I went ahead and paid it. This is a small quaint hotel. It is not a modernized hotel but it is clean and maintained well. There is a little area in the lobby where you can purchase some snacks and drinks. There is a restaurant in the hotel as well as a bar. A buffet breakfast is offered in the mornings. It is also very easy to get a taxi from this hotel as they just simply have to press a button and call one for you. The rooms are clean and smells fresh. I had a room with two queen beds. I enjoyed that the bed had two separate comforters for each side of the bed. The lighting is not as practical as it could be. The lamps are very bright and more like desk lamps and are situated in areas that do not really provide full lighting over the main area of the room. We only used the lamps when absolutely necessary because it was not ideal. The room has a refrigerator and a safe. There are also a tea brewer for hot water, 4 teabags, creamers and sugar, and 4 tea cups in the room; there were three glasses in the bathroom as well. There are no microwave or ironing board in the room, and also no self-controlled thermostat. The bathroom was clean and looks fine aesthetically. There is a hand and body wash by the sink area as well as in the shower. There is also shampoo in the shower. I am not sure if there was some sort of renovation or something happening in or around the hotel, but there was a knocking sound during certain times of the day that was loud. Luckily for us we could sleep through most things, so it didn’t impact us too badly but it was annoying. Overall, we had a pleasant stay at this hotel. The hotel representatives were professional, and although not very talkative, they answered our questions and provided support when needed. We slept comfortably, was able to have food to eat, and get transportation to our various excursions without any issues.

Hótel Ísland is a great hotel for crashing after a long day of exploration. However, we were a little unhappy with the condition of our Junior Suite. The beds, including the pullout sofa bed, weren't all that comfortable. There were stains on every chair and counter and the lighting was a bit odd. Although an outdated room isn’t an extreme issue, it does affect everyones mood. After all, we are paying a lot of money for a nice experience. The included breakfast was decent but be warned, it is the exact same thing every morning. The gym was not nice and if you are someone who exercises often like me, you will not like the treadmills as they have zero shock absorption. The spa and locker rooms were in excellent condition. The gym is very expensive but if you purchase a spa or massage package, which are reasonably priced, you will get a free day pass to the gym. If you are looking for food near the hotel and don’t want to dine in the hotel restaurant, there are several quick bit restaurants behind the hotel on Suðurlandsbraut. The hotel is a decent walk from the city but I do recommend walking over taking the bus. You have two main walking options. You can take Laugavegur which is a main road and will bring you directly into town. I highly recommend taking Sæbraut as it is along the water and has amazing views of the mountains. There is also a bus stop down the block form the hotel. The only ‘issue’ we ran into at our hotel was on the first night. We had to ask 3 or 4 times for more towels and pillows. They only give one small pillow for each bed. I am giving Hótel Ísland a generous 4 stars due to their helpfulness and friendliness with our excursion and restaurant questions. They even made some phone calls for us when our tour pickups were late.

Fantastic hotel - perfect location, friendly staff, clean and brilliant breakfast! The spa and pools were an added bonus, ideal to warm up in after scooting around Reykjavik all day. Good places to eat locally and just up the rd from the COVID testing centre. Decent sized room service portions and our rooftop suite was spotless and well appointed. Could have maybe done with the tv being on a swivel mount, so it can be watched in bed, motorised window blinds (there were 9 roller blinds all together) instead of the two small windows that were motorised and maybe a dyson hair dryer to really put it up there as a truly luxurious stay, but the massive bed was super comfy and the nespresso machine were a nice additional touch, as was the spectacular view of the city and surrounding mountains. Perhaps the highlight of our entire stay was seeing the northern lights from our rooftop terrace on our last night (they were a no-show on our tour the previous night). Not one single issue with the hotel being the starting point of all our booked excursions and transfers, as everything runs like clockwork in Iceland. Can not recommend this hotel enough.

We arrived slightly early for check in but we were greeted by Emily at reception with a smile and a warm welcome. She managed to get us checked in and then proceeded to give us some recommendations of things to do and places to eat in Reykjavik, which we used and were good recommendations. ||We didn't really appreciate that the hotel is about 20 minute walk outside of the main town but it wasn't a real issue while we were there as weather was relatively ok. The walk is easy, it is relatively flat and there are buses available or electric scooters that are widely used and can be hired. A taxi would be about £15-20. ||The room was clean and more than adequate for our purposes, there were 3 of us staying and we had 2 double beds. The bathroom and shower were functional and good enough for what we needed. There was a crack in the sink, which didn't cause any issues and I am sure at some point will get fixed. The room was cleaned each day and fresh towels provided if needed. There was tea and coffee available but only powdered milk, which isn't to my liking but wasn't a problem. ||We went and saw the spa area, which looked nice but we didn't have time to visit while we were there. ||We had room only rate but paid for breakfast one of the days. Like majority of things in Iceland the cost was expensive, about £22 each, but that is an issue everywhere, not just at this hotel. However, the staff again were helpful, there was a wide range of food available and it was nice and fresh. ||There are restaurants within 5-10 minutes walking distance. They vary in type, including pizza (which was good), as well as Chinese, Burger, Mexican and Indian which we didn't try. There is a cafe nearby too (Lemon) which was popular and nice enough, although they weren't able to serve coffee when we were there. There is also a Braud bakery next to a petrol station which was nice. ||We ate in the restaurant on the days that we got back late from day trips out and would thoroughly recommend it. All the staff were great, but especially the person who I assume was the manager. He was very attentive and people focussed. The food appeared to be cooked fresh, we tried the fish soup, daily fish specials, the lamb, the pasta, burger and Caesar salad. Everything was cooked very well and tasty, not one bad meal. We can also recommend the lava cake and the homemade ice cream, especially chocolate.! I would suggest booking as they do get busy and perhaps also reserve the lava cake for pudding if you like a chocolate pudding/brownie as they did run out of them one evening! ||Iceland is expensive by UK standards, probably about 1.5-2 times what we are used to paying but as I said that is across the country and not just this hotel. This is something that is known and you do well to budget for that before you go and having said that our trip was worth...

Given this place a three. Overall good place most staff members are nice and very helpful. Helpful when booking tours (unlike are travel agent) 😭 Genuinely if you’re gonna come iceland book your excursions here we missed out on golden circle. The staff did try and help move our excursions around but we had no luck 😔

The rooms super cleaned & the cleaners clean and make beds everyday. The rooms are lovely and big. But nothing fancy at all. Theres a small fridge (nothing in it) u get tea etc but no milk would be nice if they could provide a small cartoon rather than spend more money..

We paid for a double got two twin beds together but these beds operate buy manovering head or feet up and down also has a massage built in pretty cool! But we couldn’t really cuddle 😂 & massage was more just a vibrate haha..

We didnt manage to sample the spa but heard its lovely. The treatments are highly pricey 😭

We had breakfast included which was erm ok. Wasnt the best. But it filled a hole. The scrambled eggs was never warm. Wasnt loads to choose from either. And the lady wasnt the politest. Meh. Lets say im glad it was included I definitely took alot of chocolate crossaints and i pinched a cheeky banana for my room! Shhhhh!

The restaurant was medicore food was and medium standard level i would eat there again.. pretty basic but nice enough if you stay here you also get 15% off food and drink and spa!

Theres a mexican round the corner back of hotel RECOMMENDED AND U CAN TAKE OUT to woo!

We was on bottom floor NO NICE VIEWS AT ALL And if im honest i feel like this hotel was so far out its about a 30/40 min walk to the city. Thankfully excursions pick u from the hotel.

Word of warning NEVER GET A TAXI 😂 jesus £100 down.

I maybe wouldn’t choose here again Definitely fitted for a three star but im Not being harsh being honest. Nice cute little hotel. Rubbish views long walk from anything to do on foot. Some staff 👍🏼 And some 👎🏼 Food 👌🏼 But not amazing.

Lastly the american bakery cookies from The lobby and chocolate...
