We finished our stay at Nordurey Hotel City Garden and we were not satisfied with our 6 nights here.

I emailed last Saturday when we arrived stating that the previous guests left food in the mini fridge, including opened condiment container and various drinks/food. The room only had a trash can in the bathroom So I did not want to throw it away in there, so the food is still in the mini fridge from the previous guests. I requested 2 pillows on our arrival day and did not receive them by 13:00 the next day, so I had to try and find an employee to help with this request.

The bathroom is always very warm and uncomfortable. The floor seems heated but there is no way for a guest to turn this off. Our towel rack heater was NOT on the entire time during our stay. There is one small window to open and bring cool air into the room, but I did not feel safe leaving this open since our room faced the street and we were on the main floor.

The chain lock for the door was broken as well and was not usable.

The black out curtain does not do a good job preventing light from the street. Light protrudes around all edges of the curtain, and with the street light right outside the window, this lit up the room too much at night.

The rooms are supposed to be sound proofed, but you could hear doors slam all night and day and there was always noise coming from below the bathroom.

Overall, we were not satisfied with our 6 nights here. We paid about $1000.00 USD and I expected better conditions within the room. We stayed in Akureyri and Geysir during the first 4 nights, so we had Iceland hotel experience to compare against. The location was the main redeeming quality for us.

Also, be aware that parking is either street parking, or right in front of the building off the main street. You have a small window to park your car in front of the building where it meets the sidewalk, and that was a pain at...

I had an 8 night stay there recently and chose it because it was right between the city center and the job site I was working at. First THE BAD. Worst internet I have experienced since the late 90s. I either had no service or one single bar of service. This was a major problem as I had to do a lot of work there in the evenings. Zooming was nearly impossible, watching youtube above 480p? Forget it. I emailed them about the issue and their answer was to find a place in my room with better signal (like, what, the bathroom? It's a hotel room, not an entire wing) and to talk to reception in the morning. That is the wrong answer. The right answer is "We will look into this for you and get it fixed". The onus is on them, not me. So they lose two stars immediately. Also, the room was hot. Thank goodness I had a fan. Inescapable heat. My colleague had a room facing the street and said the noise was insane because guests tend to check out early and have no problem talking like loudly while they wait for their ride to the airport at 4:30am. THE GOOD. Very tidy room. Super comfortable, large bed with nice pillows. Plenty of British channels on the TV. Great breakfast. Some people might find it lacking, but the coffee was great, plenty of bread, fruit, cereal, meats. Unbelievable water pressure. So much so that my drain was immediately clogged and water was seeping out to the bathroom floor. Luckily the floor had a drain too. Seriously, you could peel paint with that water pressure. Also, plenty of parking. All in all, the room was very comfortable and totally fine for a long stay. HOWEVER, I would only stay here again if A) I was guaranteed a room at the back, B) guaranteed a fan, and C) they sorted out their late 90s...

We absolutely loved Nordurey Hotel! Even though it's a hotel it had more of a Bed and Breakfast feel to it. The staff were wonderful and very helpful. We stayed on the first floor and loved that we had our own little nook outside. Breakfast was nothing complicated but was very nice and filling. On an island where everything is expensive the included breakfast, 24 hour coffee/espresso and the free sodas helped cut some of the costs. The rooms are clean and new but not too large or too small. These are not the typical American hotel rooms with more things in them than what you need. Our room had a nice curved screen TV, safe, small refrigerator, small place to put/hang cloths, two small end tables with lamps, USB wall chargers, and a small desk. If I were to have any complaints it would be that there were no additional blankets or pillows (I think they might have had some before but they could have been taken by some guests). The location is great if you want to be close to the city center without being caught up in the noise and traffic. A taxi to the big church costs @20ISK or it's about a 20-25 minute walk that is very pleasant. The Sun Voyager sculpture is about 2km away. The area is very safe even very late at night. I went out walking to take pictures and sightseeing as late as 3AM and never felt even a twinge of being nervous. I even got great pictures of the Auroras near the Sigurjón Ólafsson Museum which is only 1.2km away. There is no doubt that we will be staying at the Nordurey Hotel on the next...

Nordurey Hotel City Garden was super convenient - close to the city center but away from the hustle and bustle. We rented a car for our stay, so traveling to and from the city center and the outskirts was easy from Nordurey. We were given an access code that we could use both for the main hotel entrance and our room. I loved how you didn't have to wait by the reception to check in. Our room was very clean and decently sized (per European standards). Loved that the bathroom had a rain shower head and towel heater. The design throughout the hotel was very chic and minimalistic - loved it! The free breakfast was good and helped us kick start our early mornings. Breakfast is served from 7-10 a.m. Also loved their awesome "coffee machine" with lots of options - macchiato, cappucino, etc.). We filled up our coffee jug before heading out each day. I would definitely recommend Nordurey Hotel City Garden and would love to stay here again when we come back to Iceland!

The room and the setup of the hotel is great. It is a self-service hotel and it is reasonably located. You can walk to the main city center within 30 minutes or take one of the local scooters which would get you there within 10 to 15 minutes. It is on a slightly busy road but you don't hear any of the traffic. I did like that you just turned up and use your pin code to access the main building as well as the rooms. You use one pin code for both the main doors and the room so it doesn't get confusing. The water pressure in the room was great and hot so there's nothing to worry about when you want to Have a good shower there. . The rooms are fairly decent and very minimalistic, there is even a small fridge for you to keep any of your food that you've purchased. The neighboring properties are essential so there's no busy pedestrians around. The closest supermarket is roughly 7 minutes walk from the property which isn't bad.
