The dining experience was a rollercoaster of delightful highs and frustrating lows. The menu was a definite highlight, offering creative dishes that catered wonderfully to both meat lovers and vegetarians. Standouts included the exceptional Beetroot Wellington, the delightful Catch of the Day, the Juniper Marinated Deer, and the Confit Duck. Regrettably, the - very expensive - marinated deer was served lukewarm, detracting from its potential. The major drawback was the evident disconnect between the service staff and the kitchen. As a result, our entrees got served at staggered times, following several complaints, and resulting in a cumulative delay of almost an hour. This issue significantly disrupted the flow of our meal, with each of us eating at different intervals, which detracted from our group dining experience. In a redeeming turn, our waiter was attentive to these setbacks, offering genuine apologies and providing a bill adjustment. This response showed an understanding of the shortcomings and a willingness to improve. We departed feeling justly treated and remain open to a future visit, optimistic that the restaurant will enhance its service to align with the high caliber of its cuisine.

Nice place nestled into the beautiful Grand Hotel. Great atmosphere and the circular fireplace you can eat around was really cool. Service was excellent and the food was amazing. Started with the smoked Arctic Char on traditional Icelandic Rye bread. Main course was the deer and it was cooked to perfection, med rare with a slight char on the outside and seasoned simply and beautifully, not to overdone. The mushroom sauce was delicious and not too rich. Even if you are not staying at the hotel I recommend this place to eat.

This is a beautiful restaurant but unfortunately the waitstaff do such a terrible job you should skip it. We ordered extremely over priced food and simple instructions due to allergy can not be followed due to a total lack of caring

  1. we tried to order drinks and were told we could only get a few bc both bartenders were on holiday. 3 drinks that averages 22$ usd each and all were terrible
  2. Char was good but does not come with artichoke like the menu says and comes with ONE carrot and TWO asparagus. For the price it’s shocking. The beef tenderloin is just okay and not at all with the price.
  3. service is terrible. They all stand around chatting never checking on your food etc
  4. you think we would’ve learned our lesson but we didn’t and decided to order dessert. It was the most disappointing part of the entire meal. After waiting 20 minutes for our dessert and coffee we finally called the waiter over to find out what’s going on. Our waiter snapped at us saying desserts take 10 minutes after we told him it had been over 20 he finally went to the kitchen to check on them. The waiter finally came out with them. Apple crumble burned and just uneatanle. The blueberry thing was also burned, dry and not at all good. Lemon tart was good but the rhubarb was just terrible.
  5. The place is mostly empty after 9 o’clock, probably due to terrible service and food coupled with the prices. The kitchen staff will yell screaming bang things, and just make obnoxious amounts of noise which can be heard throughout the dining area.

We are staying at the hotel a few days so it would have been nice to have a good restaurant right there for when we finish tours but after spending over $600 USD on this place we will NEVER eat here again ans suggest you skip it to. Local area restaurants are 10x better at 1/3 the price.

Management really needs to do something about this bc the staff do not...

I wish I could give this a zero-star rating, but Google doesn’t allow that option. This was the worst experience I had in Reykjavík. I stayed at the Reykjavik Grand Hotel while exploring the country for the first time. After spending the day in Jökulsárlón, I returned late at night and wanted a quick dinner nearby before my flight in the morning. I had ordered room service on previous nights and was interested in seeing the full menu at the restaurant.

However, the red-haired female hostess was incredibly rude and deliberately ignored me, serving guests who arrived after me. I felt so awkward and disrespected that I just left. I ended up going into town to find something to eat and discovered Mandi Ingólfstorg in the town center, which was fantastic—highly recommend.

The hotel gives a 15% off voucher for their restaurant, but I never got to use it because they wouldn’t serve me. I’m deeply disappointed...
