Extremely Disappointing Stay
I recently stayed at Hotel John, and it was one of the worst experiences I’ve ever had. The room was nothing like the pictures—dirty rooms, peeling paint, and a strong musty smell that hit me the moment I walked in. The bedding looked unwashed, with visible stains, and the bathroom was equally appalling, with mold in the shower and dirty tiles and mirrors.
To make matters worse, they did not provide basic necessities like water bottles, towels, soaps/ hand wash etc. A dirty empty water jug and glasses were kept. Did not provide water even when asked and gave the reason that this is a small hotel. The owner (John) initially had a mocking tone towards me (me being north indian), but when I confronted him, he toned down and apologised. When I took him to my room and asked about the appalling condition of the room, he started giving lame excuses.
For the price I paid, I expected a basic level of cleanliness and service, but Hotel John failed miserably on both fronts. I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone—save your money and book elsewhere. There are hundreds of room nearby. Go to the rooms and only then book. Don't get lured by low prices especially when traveling with family.

While I see some negative reviews here related to the hotel, the point is, at the end of the day, for the money paid, this is good. Also, as always, what you pay is what you get.
It's a 3 tiered hotel with no lifts, so expect a climb. You get an average room, no air-conditioning, an average toilet which has been cleaned and a TV with Tamil channels. It's centrally located and within walking distance of the ferry which takes you to Vivekananda memorial.
That's it. Nothing...
