Hotel Marigold is strategically placed with everything within its reach in Bhubaneswar. The airport, railway station and bus stand are very close. At first sight it would not look like anything too great from outside but from inside it is really good. The receptionist is a decent one. We were welcomed warmly by the guard and staff. There is a lift which can accommodate 4 people. The rooms are very good. I had no view of outside from my room as the windows opened in the corridor. But the room was really good. Neat and clean. No cupboards though but they had ample space to . No mini refrigerator in the room. But there is a nice electric kettle and the tea coffe milk sugar tray. 2 bottles of water are provided everyday, not chilled though as i realized people don't drink chilled water here despite the heat. People in odisha are not picky about things. They are okay with whatever. ( Happy people) The washrooms are very clean, They look new. The bathing area has a shower but no tap for bucket bathing. A bucket and mug is placed in the bathroom. Basic toiletries are provided. I prefer using mine so i have no fuss about what's provided. If you wish to get laundry done then i must tell you the laundry rates are very reasonable starting from rs. 35. The beds are comfortable some may find the beds soft. Mosquito repellent is provided so you need not carry it. The AC chills the room in seconds. Mr. Rajesh the manager helped me plan my itinerary and booked me a taxi too with negotiated price. The driver was good too . On my way I fell seriously ill. Thankfully the driver, hotel staff were very helpful. Mr. Rajesh the manager arranged for medicines, fruits, breakfast in room for me. He did go out of the way to give me ORS and electral so that i regain strength and kept checking on my health status. I would give him 10/10 for hospitality. He is indeed an asset to any hotel he works with. Infact the entire staff was very courteous and kind. I am glad to have stayed in Hotel Marigold and receive so much care. I strongly recommend it to everyone.
The restaurant: Namah - I was surprised to know that Namah was a well known restaurant in Bhubaneswar. Indeed the food was tasty. The breakfast was simple and nice. The beverage again as i said not chilled. The lunch was good . Vegetarians have limited options but there are interesting things on menu for Mon-...
Read moreRight, positives; near the airport, Tuk tuk rank outside, fabric and decor are good, beds are comfortable. Room service is ok. Some staff were clearly working hard under difficult circumstances. |Negatives: despite what is advertised on various sites it does NOT have a roof terrace, bar, garden, large breakfast/dining room, rooms do NOT have balcony, they open onto an internal corridor overlooking an atrium so any party disturbs the entire hotel until the early hours. The only window opens onto this corridor as well. They also had building work going on on the roof for the entirety of our stay. This sent dust throughout the entire hotel and on one day, thick smoke which worryingly did not set off the smoke alarms. |King size rooms (delux) do NOT have 2x beds, they have a king or double in the smaller room but are called the same and charged at the same rate, we were told “they are the same but different”. You’ll need to ask for a shower curtain, we got a mouldy one, it co ordinated with the stained sheets. There is no communal area to sit so any down time during the day was spent in the rooms with curtains drawn for privacy and in artificial light. The floors under the beds were filthy. I will try to upload photos as proof. I have a lot. |Breakfast was the worst I think I’ve ever had in a hotel. I got between 1/2 to 1 full omelette on a plastic plate depending upon the day. The coffee had a layer of skin across it.|The cleaning staff, waiters and one man on reception were very nice and tried to help but the one receptionist in particular has clearly made the wrong career choice.|It also does not have car parking, that is on the he road outside. |We had booked this hotel due to the facilities it claimed to have and it did not. We could not find any other rooms available due to everywhere being booked out for the Hockey World Cup. We are extremely angry that we were all stuck there for 2 weeks and they frankly didn’t care. We feel they took our booking and money under false pretences. We strongly advise anyone considering his hotel to look for...
Read moreVisited the restaurant for dining. Their mutton biryani is one of my favourites. Earlier they had a mutton keema masala, but unfortunately it is no longer on their menu. The mutton curry was average but their biryani is worth the price.
At first the mutton pieces were all boney and no consumable meat was there. So we complained and they served us with meaty pieces of mutton to compensate for our experience.
On evening days they're quite full and if you call and book a table, they'll agree for it but they'd still fail to book a table for you at your desired time. So don't expect a great service on the booking a table on demand. Wait times are quite high. On one occasion even after they agreed to keep a table reserved, they didn't for which i had to leave since they didn't respect my time and didn't reserve a table even after agreeing to do it.
On another occasion i visited the restaurant, the restaurant was almost empty, they didn't turn on the AC. Seems like a cost saving technique. Even such a big and expensive hotel you'd not expect such activities. On requesting for AC they said there's no electricity but we could clearly see the red led lit on the roof ACs. Clearly shows a cheap mentality towards customers when the restaurant is...
