Hotel Valiant — Hotel in Gujarat

We arrived in Vadodara at about 9PM with no reservation. We headed to Hotel Valiant on our guidebook’s recommendation. (As a side note, beware of auto-rickshaw drivers who claim to know the hotel only to drive you all around the city with the meter running. One tried to charge us 180 rupees even though the hotel is walkable from the bus station where we started. We had big bags that we didn’t want to walk with and decided a short journey should be cheap.) ||While the prices of the hotel had gone up significantly in the year since the guidebook was printed, we were tired and decided to stay anyways. We weren’t disappointed with the service. The room was spacious and the TV worked. The wifi was the fastest we have had so far in India. There is also 24 hours check-out, which for us meant we had until 10PM the next day to enjoy our stay.||||The few troubles we had with the place started on our second day. The promised hot water was non-existent. When I went to ask questions about breakfast at the reception, I was ignored for several minutes. I am sure the man behind the counter knew I was standing there and just didn’t want to deal with me. When he did finally acknowledge me, his answers to my questions were rather short and pushy. When breakfast arrived at our room, the staff entered after a short knock, not giving us time to get to the door. Thank heavens both of us were dressed! This was a repeating occurrence that made us really uncomfortable. In addition, the staff seemed intent on coming all the way into the room even when a conversation at the door would suffice. Perfectly located Hotel. Excellent AC rooms with 24 hour running hot water on shower. WiFi and TV is provided within the cost. Very cordial staff, who always look to help you out in small things. Room service is fast and efficient. All kind of services regarding exploring or reaching within the city are available within walking distance from the hotel. When we arrived in Vadodara we were shocked by the lack of budget guesthouses/hotels.
