Mani Mansion derived from name “Manibhai”, who was a legendry social worker and acclaimed businessman had build this House in the year 1923. This Heritage House was once home to the entire Dalal family and it continues to resemble the magnificence of its original Eclectic architecture even today. Spread in about 2300sq meter, this House had seven huge rooms on the ground floor along with verandah and a porch in this main building. Besides it there was a Masala Grinding room (which is pizzeria and fountain side seat out area today) adjoining with a kitchen, dining and a store (which is a/c restaurant, store and kitchen even today). Tushar Dalal recollects the say-ing of his grandfather Manibhai when Mohandas Gandhi visited this House and told Manibhai that “Khap purtu hoy to lok seva karo” (if you have sufficient money to live, start doing social work) and from that day onwards Manibhai left the luxury life and engaged himself in social welfare. Manibhai used to buy quinine powder and fill it in capsules in this House and will distribute to the needy people. During winter, Manibhai used to ride on his horse cart and distribute blankets to those who were spending nights on street roads. Apart from being a beloved family heirloom, this place is also an important part of the evolution of the culture, history and lineage of the city of Ahmedabad. This Heritage House had once housed eminent literary personalities, well known poets and legendary musician. In the yesteryears, the House saw a regular influx of visitors from the influential strata of the society. Gujarati literary giants including Jyotindra Dave, Jay Bhiku and Chandravadan Mehta were patrons of the House and stayed here for days working on their projects. In fact, there are rooms in the House that still carry the essence of their artistic creativity. Legendary artists like Ravi Shankar Raval, theater personality-Jay Shankar Sundri were also frequent visitors of the House. Even today, Mani Mansion preserves the lineage and continues the legacy with eminent personalities like Dr. Murli Manohar Joshi-one of the country’s most respected politicians, Dutch Pianist Mike Del Ferro, Bollywood celebrities, theater artists like Bomi Dotiwala, Veteran Actress Asha Parekh, Olympic Medal Winner Mary Kom and Oscar Nominated -Bombay Jayashree having been patrons of the hotel and its facilities. Tushar Dalal grandson of Manibhai Dalal continues the legacy and has thoughtfully and carefully restored the property and had left it open for the tourist to experience the old charm of his ancestral House.Mani Mansion is now associated with WelcomeHeritage and will be known as WelcomeHeritage...
Read moreA very lovely hotel set in a heritage property. Living in a 100 year old family home owned by the Dalal family is an experience that cannot be replicated in the most expensive of hotels.
The hotel is centrally located. There are different types of rooms available from basic to suites. A great feature is their rooms for differently abled people. If you are traveling with a patient, they can prepare a room with surgical beds, wheelchair etc. What a great gesture!
The hotel has a cafe, restaurant, pizzeria, Gujarati thali restaurant, banquet hall, swimming pool, fitness center etc. Their cafe Fresh Roast is popular with the locals. Food and service was excellent throughout our stay. The buffet breakfast is excellent with local Gujrati foods like Thepla, Khakra, Dhokla and popular breakfast foods like Idli, Poha, Baked Beans, Toast, Cereal, Dosa and Omelette.
The hotel offers free WIFI which works very well.
My favorite part about the hotel is how the decor has been done using preserved family heirlooms along with modern features and amenities. We took time to explore the vintage family furniture and other items placed tastefully in different corners on the hotel property. The walls are filled with family photos and pictures of distinguished guests who have stayed here. I met the owners of the hotel and their love and pride in their family home and hospitality towards hotel guests is remarkable.
If you enjoy staying in unique properties, then you will love this offbeat stay in Mani Mansion.
P. S. If you are looking for a hotel close to NID (National Institute of Design), Mani Mansion is an...
Read moreThis is a heritage property well maintained by the current owner. I will give my honest review as below :-
Pros :-
Ambience and overall look of the place exudes old world charm and actually gives the feel of a heritage property.
The Executive Room was a bit small but very neat and clean. Rate of the room was suitable.
There was a little bit of a problem with the bathroom knob which was promptly attended to, and was resolved quickly.
Television relayed all the major entertainment channels through the Tata set top box.
There is a nice swimming pool at the back. The surroundings of the pool need some cleanliness though.
Cons :-
The Bed Mattress was too high in size (Manageable for a tall person) and it was squeaky too.
In the middle of the night at around 2.20 am, I woke up due to the heavy noises coming from the back side of my room. It was due to the construction work going on behind the hotel in a newly built structure. I called the reception guy Yash, but he was totally clueless with respect to where the noise was coming from. He couldn't help and the heavy noise continued throughout till the wee hours which completely spoiled my sleep and there was a similar complaint from another guest too, but sadly, this complaint went unresolved and this is a major drawback of this place which is surrounded by some commercial establishments that makes it vulnerable to such noise pollution. I cannot sacrifice my sleep over other things.
On my next visit, I will first inquire about the noise pollution and will then decide to stay here...
