We went for a birthday dinner at the Malabar Cafe restaurant at Hyatt, TVM. The overall experience was definitely poor for a property that has a 5-star rating, when compared to other properties across the country & definitely abroad. This is ONLY a review about the restaurant & related services, not about rooms or other amenities. Menu was confusing with multiple pages with no legends separating each section. Designed like a medium sized notepad with multiple pages, makes it difficult to scan items and remember where what is. Legends on the side to help easy access to specific sections would be helpful. Apart from the exorbitant prices (expected from a 5 star property), the food was very average. There was nothing that signified the quality or taste expected from a hotel such as Hyatt. The quantity was also REALLY small, even smaller than what is expected from a high end restaurant. Porotta was medium sized with zero taste, non fluffy and almost felt like it was reheated, rather than freshly prepared. Kallappam was TINY and smaller than a thattu dosa. The price of Rs.120 for 2 tiny mini dosas was absolutely indigestible. Time to preparation- Terrible. No planning on what is brought to the table and when. Preparation times for the easiest of items was long and took forever to reach us. The curries we ordered (Aatirachi Kanthari Chaps Rs. 750 and Meen Manga Thakkali Curry Rs. 850 ) were of very small quantity and the taste was absolutely average. Soups ordered (Roasted tomato Cumin soup Rs. 300 and Attinkal Charu soup Rs. 300) was watery and non-spicy even when specifically requested. Taste was not bad but definitely nowhere near the actual taste of these dishes. Pastas ordered (3 different ones) were distasteful and better made even at homes. The tastes were not at all as it was supposed to be and for people who have had it prepared by experts would think of this as a joke. As mentioned, it tasted like an amateur making it by looking at a substandard YouTube recipe. It was also noted that the pasta and spaghetti were not cooked enough, making the texture harder and chewier. Ordered a couple of pizzas (one from the Kids section for Rs. 250) and another pizza from the non-kids section for Rs. 650. Both were EXACTLY the same in terms of size and presentation. Taste was also very similar, so why order from the main menu if we get the almost same pizza for less than 60% of the price? Clearly something wrong here. There was nothing kidsy about the kids pizza ordered (except being bland with no spices of course). Staff was friendly but not professional. Probably straight out of college with freshers being given jobs. Definitely did not come across as being professional, service attentiveness was not great, serving food without mentioning what the items are, not even offering to serve for older people in the group or for people holding babies. All these are expected from a 5 star property. I wouldn't write so much if this was some random property but when it is Hyatt, this is expected. We initially went in to have food at the Chinese Restaurant there. We were a group of 9 people but they couldn't accommodate all of us in 1 single table. They said they dont have the space or convenience to arrange a single table for 9. So large groups wanting Chinese, take a look elsewhere or be prepared to sit in different tables across the room. Ordered 2 slices of cake from their cafe shop (Rs. 300 each) which was dry and not tasty. It almost felt like they were not from the same day but when checked they mentioned it was prepared and displayed at around 10 am and assured it is restocked daily. Definitely there is room for improvement and the pastry chef needs to up his game here. The ambience was decent, nothing too tastefully done. When asked to speak to a manager, they did not want to for fear of feedback. It is new, so hoping feedback is taken constructively to ensure long term...

Long review : Having stayed plenty of times at both Grand Hyatt Kochin and Hyatt Regency thrissur, I wasn't expecting much, but honestly was bowled over by the exceptionally good customer service from each and every staff I interacted with.
Eventhough we reached at 11.45 AM, our check in was done very quickly and in under 2 minutes we were in our room, thanks to the very friendly duty manager Mr. Linso and his colleague Mr. Vishnu.
We stayed at the suite room and it's the same for the Hyatt Regency brand, but it's slightly bigger than the regency suite at Hyatt Regency thrissur. Very luxurious, very relaxed.
There are 2 full sized restaurants, Malabar cafe that specializes in south indian food predominantly although there are numerous dishes from other parts of India and then there is the oriental kitchen that serves thai/chinese food. Also there is a cafe that serves really good coffee along with chocolate babka, pain au chocolat, croissants, danishes amongst a ton of other pastries. Mr. Anandu who served us at the cafe was super friendly, very engaging in conversation and an exceptionally good host.
Same goes to Mr. Linso who was very engaging, friendly and very respectful and courteous.
We dined at The Oriental Kitchen and were served by Neha and her colleague who made us feel at right at home, additional the ambience of the oriental kitchen is very peaceful and calm with its ambient lighting and music. The chef prepared a soup for us that was not part of the menu and it was the best tom kha ghai I had the pleasure of tasting, it was a sensory overload and an explosion in my mouth. Remarkable experience.
What needs to be especially mentioned is the absolutely top notch customer service, and the staff at Hyatt that made our stay entirely beautiful. There are several others I interacted with but on a much smaller time scale whose names I don't remember, they all played a good part in making our 2 nights stay memorable.
Special mention to Ms. Neeraja at the Malabar Cafe who enquired on the quality of our breakfast and things were to our satisfaction. She was very friendly and jovial.
As someone who regularly has the opportunity to stay at upscale 5 star hotels in kerala and abroad, this is truly a gem in trivandrum and one of our really memorable stays.
With regards to food pricing, we felt that food prices were quite decent considering it was room service.
Thank you team Hyatt for making us feel right at home with your...

Review: Our recent stay at Hyatt Regency Trivandrum surpassed all our expectations and standards as the pinnacle of our travel experiences in India. As ethical vegans, we were delighted to discover a truly vegan-friendly hotel that accommodated our needs with utmost care and authenticity.
We had the pleasure of sharing our dietary requirements with Chef Karthik and Team Leader Keerthi, who assured us that they would address our concerns regarding cross-contamination and maintain strict adherence to ethical vegan practices. True to their word, each day they brought a delightful array of culinary wonders, expertly crafted by Chef Karthik himself. His passion and creativity were evident as he prepared a variety of mouthwatering Kerala dishes, all meeting our ethical vegan standards. From delectable puttus and appams to tantalizing Gobi 65, thosas, puris, banana fritters, and an assortment of other delightful vegan treats, the flavors were simply mind-blowing.
We would be remiss if we didn't extend our appreciation to the entire staff, including Ashmita at the front desk, Kishore from concierge services, and Abhijeet, as well as numerous other team members whose names elude us. The warmth and hospitality we experienced were truly exceptional.
Moreover, we must commend Hyatt Regency Trivandrum for its vegan-friendly environment and its dedication to providing a welcoming space for all vegans. And to non-vegans, we implore you to try the vegan delicacies prepared by Chef Karthik and his team, and consider embracing a vegan lifestyle, if only for a brief moment, in support of the innocent, voiceless animals.
In addition to the outstanding culinary experiences, the hotel's lobby exudes elegance, while the spacious rooms provide a perfect retreat. The entire establishment feels refreshingly new, and the service provided throughout our stay was unparalleled.
We wholeheartedly recommend Hyatt Regency Trivandrum to all travelers, especially those who share our ethical vegan values. Indulge in the exceptional service, savor the authentic vegan Kerala cuisine, and enjoy the comfort and luxury this hotel offers.
Once again, a heartfelt thank you to Chef Karthik (a real gem), Keerthi, Ashmita, Kishore, Abhijeet, and all the other staff members whose efforts contributed to our remarkable experience at Hyatt...
