We chose Taj Kumarakom to unwind and escape from our fast-paced life. True to their website description, this resort beautifully integrates with the local wildlife—indeed, we saw more birds and wildlife here than at the nearby bird sanctuary!
From the moment we arrived, we were warmly welcomed with refreshing coconut water and charming coconut garlands. Gayathri Devi ensured a seamless check-in, escorted us to our room, and introduced us to the delightful "Chaykada" for evening tea. Throughout our stay, Gayathri Devi, Aashara, Aravind, and Abdul were always there to assist, suggesting local activities and promptly attending to our requests.
The team has put enormous effort into maintaining the originality of the historic Baker’s Bungalow; even the switches and fans reminded me fondly of my village home.
Our room was super spacious and centrally located, providing easy access to the front of the resort—where the front office, restaurant, and activities area are situated—as well as to the back, featuring the tranquil backwaters and Chaykada, the evening tea area. We later discovered that the late Prime Minister, Mr. Atal Bihari Vajpayee, had stayed in the same room during his visit to Kumarakom for medical treatment.
Each morning began peacefully with the melodies of birds. Our days effortlessly flowed from swimming to a delicious breakfast, followed by badminton or cycling, rest, gym sessions, another swim, and dinner. We genuinely can't believe how quickly our week passed!
Sachin from the activities team was easily approachable and always helpful with our activity needs.
The housekeeping team, especially Sujina, was extremely attentive, regularly checking to ensure we had everything we needed. Other housekeeping team members were helpful with additional requests, such as cleaning the badminton court. Senthil Sir was always available for any queries and was particularly prompt, often the first to respond whenever we required assistance.
The wellness team, led expertly by Dr. Akshara, was exceptional. Puwi's care was wonderful. Vishnu, responsible for the swimming pool, managed it diligently, keeping it clean despite frequent rainfall causing leaves and insects to fall. He was always ready to help guests with swimming tips when asked.
The restaurant team, headed by Subin and Vipin, offered superb service and excellent dining suggestions. Special thanks to Alan AJ, James, Theja, Aakshana, and Niranj among many others whose names we might have missed—they were all incredibly kind and helpful. Entertainment during Dinner was wonderful.
While we enjoyed cycling or walking around the resort, we greatly appreciated the buggy service, which was always promptly available. Thanks to Vijayan and Biju for always being helpful.
Noble’s drawings were inspiring and made for engaging conversations; kindly shared his colour pencils with us, enabling us to create a 'Thank You' card for the team.
It was truly difficult for us to leave this wonderful place, and we are already looking forward to...

The flora and fauna attract lot of beautiful ducks. The pool is lovely. Rooms have a tasteful decor and the hospitality is very much the Taj way - warm and prompt. The property has been developed so well that you will fall in love with you with it the first time you look at it. It's lush Green and will give you an old ENGLSH COTTAGE look which is very beautiful. The short walk from the hotel to Restaurant by the water side is a treat for the senses.
The breakfast in Vembanad Restaurant always had a good selection of beverages, fresh juices and Indian and western options. We ate most of our meals here and the food never failed to impress. Restaurant Manager Nabarun Dutta was always ready to accommodate our request and their staff comprising of Satish, Anand rao, Devi, Biman, Bishwajit ,Ritesh and Chef’s delivered courteous, friendly and non-intrusive service at all times. They even organized a lovely birthday cake table for my wife at the PDR for us on our last night there which warmed our hearts. You could see that they all genuinely loved their work and worked in perfect harmony.
The food her is great, the room service as well as the "CURRYMEEN RESTAURANT". EVERYTHING WAS JUST LIP SMACKING. Housekeeping did their magic by being practically invisible but every time we returned to our room it had been meticulously cleaned and amenities replenished.
