Hospitality, history, art and eco-friendly
I stayed 2 nights at the Fortune Pandiyan Hotel in Madurai, which opened in 1968. Several personalities and important figures in history have stayed here, including Mother Theresa. Hotel has several art and antique collections including wood carvings, photographs and paintings from local artists. I picked up several Oochappan photo prints from the lobby boutique, which supports an organisation for mentally challenged people. Hotel team also organised a tuk-tuk village tour that gave us a glimpse of local village life … off the tourist trail that was a lot of fun. To top it off I got a crew cut at a local barber shop 😊.
The guest rooms are modern, spacious and very comfortable with quality amenities and a well-stocked mini bar! Hotel garden is large with several interesting features such as a bird aviary, fish pond, bee hotel (first time I have seen one, apparently as a shelter for wild bees), honey bee hives, plant nursery with trees and plants labelled. The large hotel garden is irrigated with recycled water along with various environmental practices such as glass water bottles to reduce plastic use. Very eco-friendly!
The employees are friendly and have the ‘art of hospitality’. In the end, being far from home, my stay made me feel at home. I found myself there and I share their values and principles. I heartily recommend Fortune Pandiyan hotel if you...
Read moreThe hotel is located centrally. It is a three star hotel and lives up to the motto of Welcome Group. Right from the time I contacted the front desk, where Mr Velliasamy was very positive to the staff, all made us feel wanted. Room is very comfortable, as was expected. We had taken the MAP and had dinner as part of our deal. The breakfast spread was fairly exhaustive with options in all cuisines. The taste was very good and it was very filling. My complements to the Chef and Restaurant Manager. I would like to pay a compliment to the staff at the restaurant for the way they looked after us for the three days that we stayed there. Of special mention are Varun and Suryansh, Karuthpandiyan and and a couple of others who were ever smiling and ready to serve For Dinner, there was a Rajasthani food festival going in apart from the regular buffet. The taste was good, but the presentation by the team needed a bit of improvement. As for the dinner, the food was good but not excellent. Also, items would get cold.....as soon as one pointed out, the staff took pains to give hot items. This, of course involved some delay and thus the experience was less than very good. I would rate it 6-7 on a scale of ten. Taste was also 6-7. I am a vegetarian,so would not be in a position to comment on the non veg options. Overall, I would...
Read moreSignificant Shortcomings in Management Response
During my recent stay at , I was met with a series of disappointing oversights in room 202. Not only was the toilet flush inoperative, but the sink was also clogged, and there was no hand wash available. Despite lodging complaints about these basic hygiene necessities four times to two different managers, the management’s response was woefully inadequate.
The acknowledgment of the issues came too late, and the offered solution of changing rooms was impractical due to my early morning schedule. It’s disconcerting when a hotel’s management shows a disregard for guest convenience and comfort, particularly when it comes to essential amenities. Such neglect raises questions about the overall attention to detail and guest experience.
I expected a certain standard of service that was not met, and while I am typically reluctant to leave negative feedback, I feel potential guests should be aware of these serious lapses in service and problem resolution. Management must recognize that immediate and effective action is not just appreciated but required when it comes to the basics of...
