Hotel Sri Arulmuthu Residency — Hotel in Madurai

I have stayed in this hotel from 25th to 27th October, 2017 with my family. Considering the room rate (i booked through Makemytrip and received a very good discount) the accommodation was good for budget travelers. ||||Room: Room is small with AC, TV and one cupboard. Rooms are clean so the bed and bed sheet. It is a queen size bed and can maximum accommodate a couple and a kid and not more than that. The room is so small that extra mattress cant be accommodate. However, this is good for a overnight stay or for a two night. The hotel is exactly beside the main road, however there is no disturbance of vehicular movement during day and night. ||||Room service: The room service is available from 7-10 and sometime it may take some time as there are only two people for room service for the entire hotel. ||||Toilet: Toilet is small but it is clean and had geyser for hot water. They have provided toiletries and bath towel (very clean). ||||Parking: They have a large parking space inside the hotel premises and can accommodate many vehicles. They lock both the entrance gate at 11pm and which is good from security stand point. ||||Food: They do not have in house restaurant facility. A menu card is provided in the room and anyone can order from that menu. They provide the food from the adjacent hotel (sabarees for veg and ball hotel for non veg). While the quality of the veg food is extremely good and price is reasonable, the price for non veg food is reasonable though the quality is average. I would suggest to go there and have the food as it is just 100 meters from the hotel. Also the price is less as compared to room service. ||||Other: The hotel has a well maintained lawn and kids can play there (no playing equipment) and there are chairs made of concrete where some one can relax. The check out time is 12pm and they follow it strictly. In case you are traveling with family (specifically small kids) and need to extend the check out time for some time please have a discussion with them before hand, else they will charge for the entire day. In my case they have provided me extra half an hour. The main attraction places from the hotel is nearby. However, for going to Meenakshi Amman temple i would suggest to teak auto instead of own vehicle or cab. The parking space is far from the temple gate and also goes to narrow roads. The auto will charge approx Rs.70-80 one side. ||||Cons: The room is too small and once you keep your luggage, there is hardly any space to move around. There is a window and curtain is provided, however the curtain is small and does not cover the window properly. During night time from the parking space and lawn the activity inside the room is clearly visible (This is applicable for cottage only which has 6 rooms). Overall Good hotel to stay with an old building charm. It looks like an old building that has been converted into hotel, not sure about the history though.||From traveller standpoint here are the pros & cons of the property.||Pros-|1) The property is on the main road and is around 2 km from Meenachi Amman Koil (principal temple in Madurai). |2) All modes of transportation are easily available and Autos will charge around 120-150 to ferry to temple.|3) The property does not have any in-house restaurant, and the menu in the room is more towards, food that they can procure from outside.|4) There are both veg & non veg options available within 50-100 mtrs from hotel premises, so one does not need to travel too far for food.|5) The hotel has adequate parking space at the back of the property and parking is safe and secure.|6) In terms of hotel amenities, water dispenser is available on each floor (2 floors in total). Large bathroom with 24hr hot water was available and AC was also working fine. Basic toiletries were provided. |7) Beds are large enough to accommodate 3 adults, cable was also ok, TV set is bit old and small.|8) Hotel staff was courteous and helpful with any needs.||Cons-|1) No Lift in the property (G+1), and stairs are steep and narrow, will be an issue for senior citizens or people with knee related problems.|2) This is more of a civic issue, but during the days we stayed, there was some issue with public drainage and all the water was on the road on which the property is situated, but no issue of smell in the hotel.||Overall it's a good stay with easy access to places of interest and enough restaurants & ATM's nearby. Checked-in at this hotel at 8:20 PM after a long drive from Bangalore. Actually, I booked a triple room and was given a double bed room. When i asked for it i was told that i had booked deluxe double bed room. After i showed my booking that had room type as "Triple room", he asked me to wait for 15 mins and was given the room after 1 hour around 9:45 PM. This time, the room given was smaller than the previously given double bed room. This so called "Triple room" contained one extra bed added to a smaller double bed room which was completely different from what picture was shown in the goibibo website at the time of booking. Moreover, the reception staff was saying that all the triple rooms were already given/occupied and not answering why did they accept my booking. He also says he won't accept kid elder than 5 years old while the goibibo site accepted it upto the age of 12 years for a kid at the time of booking. Complete non-sense and worst experience with this hotel. Guys-Be aware of it and ask for your rights. I assume that the owners of this hotel is not aware all these done by...
