Read moreHad booked 2 days stay at Joyful desert camp but we were taken to a different place called ‘gateway desert resort’. When we objected we were told it was a complimentary upgrade from the company. The place ‘ gateway desert resort’ was extremely ordinary, food was barely tolerable. Rooms were passable, only lukewarm water was available for bathing in cold weather. I wonder if they even provide fresh bed sheets after the occupants depart. There is no Wi-Fi at the property. They even charged us for the dinner ‘advertised as free ‘ on there website. We were so put off that we decided to shorten our stay by one night and come back to the city. At the checkout they insisted on all cash / UPI payments and did not provide any receipt. On insisting they have sent us a breakup of charges on email but no real bill. Later we came to know, that there is no place called ‘Joyful desert camp’ and Mr Shahid is running a fake website. He sends his customers to various other camps on commission basis. We even found out similar complaints lodged by some other tourists against his company. Clearly it’s a scam fooling gullible tourists, and most importantly evading all taxes. The place should be avoided and website such as booking.com, agoda should remove/ ban ‘Joyful desert camp’ from...
Read moreWe had booked Joyful Desert Safari by calling directly and we spoke to Mr Shahid for the same. We were offered a package of 2500 per couple. After seeing the reviews we were excited about the desert camp, but to our disappointment we were made to stay in some Maya Desert Camp. The rooms in this camp were no were closer to what is shown in the pictures. We felt cheated after seeing the rooms and washrooms. The washroom pot was unclean and broken. Mr Shahid was not even present at the property and upon asking we were said he is the relative of the owner.
Although the hospitality of the people( Mir bhai, Ali Bhai and Haneef bhai) was very good. They paid special attention to all our needs and were very kind people. Yet when we discusses about food and cultural programs with other fellow travellers upon reaching Jaisalmer, we felt the food options were very less. In breakfast we were provided only poha, whereas in other camps they provide multiple options. Although the taste of food was good., but we had paid for a different property and were provided totally something else and we felt cheated.
The 2 stars are only for Mir Bhai, Ali bhai and Haneef bhai, else We would have given 0 stars if that...
