I visited this place 2 weeks back with my cousins. And I want to make sure that this place gets its honest reviews. It was the last day of our trip and our booking at the hotel was over we had a cab in which we had our luggage and our shopping was almost done. Since the rain started to drizzle all of a sudden we wanted to take shelter and sit and relax from our tiring day. That's when we saw The Thar Cafe Restaurant right opposite to the fort. We ordered few cups of chai and snacks and must say the service was indeed quick and also clean. The seating was very homely and colorful with a beautiful view of the fort and the blueish grey sky with music being played behind. I felt I was at someone's terrace. I must say that we needed that time to just relax, chitchat and enjoy the evening since our train was to depart at night. So we asked the owners if we could spend some more time than the usual and they were so kind and so friendly and allowed us to stay a bit longer. We even had them pack us grilled cheese sandwiches for the train which was so yummy and tummy filling. If you ever plan to visit Jaisalmer, you must visit this place at least for a...
Read moreWe had dinner at Thar Cafe restaurant last night. We stopped by based on the reviews. We were wanting to try something new and the menu had plenty to choose from.
The view of the fort was nice and you have several options to choose from for seating inside and out.
We had Dal Batí Churma which was delicious. There was only one man cooking so while it did take quite awhile for our food to come out, we knew it was fresh when it did. The cook, which we believe may be the owner was very friendly and a very good cook.
We can only give That Cafe 3 stars because of cleanliness. Everything was very dirty. The tables looked like they have not been wiped down in a very long time, as well as the table cloths and the cushions you sit on. It was actually dirty enough that normally we would have not even eaten there. Therefore, even though the food came out great - not sure we can...
Read moreFood taste was okay, not the best I've had in Rajasthan but not bad either. However both me and my friend had a funny belly in the morning (I've already been traveling India for a year eating street food, so it's a little surprising).
The price was crazy. 900 Rs for a Laal Maas. It's double the price of Indigo in Jodhpur and also double the price of Peacock in Jaipur. These were the two best restaurants in Rajasthan for me so far. The food does not come even close to the standards of these two restaurants. In fact, the curry prices are about the same as Europe. And just a little less than the JW marriot which is a 5-star hotel.
The service was good for the most part, but the waiter decided to blast music right next to us from his phone while I was talking...
